Hank Valon is the pseudonym of Bob Stein. He was born in the country in Southern Illinois. His parents instilled a thirst early on for the adventure one could find in books. He had a taste of street fighting in Detroit, but fortunately the family returned to the country life before it became damaging. He grew up on a farm with assorted farm animals and machinery, learning responsibility in caring for both. He went to Southern Illinois University on a teacher’s scholarship. Eventually graduating with his B.S. in Education, majoring in social studies. He worked for D.O.D. during the end and the phase down of the Viet Nam War. He is retired from fifteen years as a barber. He is married to Aunt Minnie. They have six kids and twelve grandkids. They live in Garden City, Missouri, the heart of the border war country. Both are history students and Old West re-enactors with the Osage Valley Vigilantes. He is a member of Western Writers of America, EPIC, The Cass County Historical Association, The Cass County Civil War Round Table, and the Cass County Genealogy Association.
