The day I took over
the spare bedroom and called it my study was the day
I started a new chapter in my life.
Born and bred in rural Herefordshire,
(England), I was lucky enough to be able to enjoy childhood
the way a kid should. Rather than staying in watching
television, I was out in the fresh air playing games;
being a typical boy. Naturally, most of those games
were war games. As the years passed, school led to college,
and college led to a life of 9 to 5 employment. The
childhood imagination still lurked somewhere deep within
me, waiting to be released once again.
Around eight years ago, I found myself in a stopgap
job cleaning cars; it was during this time that I attempted
to write a letter to a good friend, only to find that
my spelling was appalling. Looking to improve myself,
I began to write a short story. Before long, my career
path got back on track. But the story stayed with me;
the only difference being that the once short story
rapidly changed into a full-length novel. It was my
first achievement. I finished the story, all handwritten
on paper, proud of what I’d done. I asked my partner
to read it. With my handwriting, she suggested we invest
our hard-earned money in a new home computer. I plugged
it in and was ready to go with another story that was
wriggling its way from the back of my mind. Within no
time, it had a title - V.I.P.
