Hawkman’s
friend, Charley Sullivan, is renting the small house
that Jamey Schyler inherited from her aunt. Charley
wants to buy the place and through him Hawkman discovers
that Jamey Schyler will be returning to Medford, Oregon,
to clear the title on the piece of property. Hawkman
has never forgiven himself for letting Jamey get away
after knowing she had a big part in the Oklahoma diamond
heist. Even though the authorities have nothing on her,
he decides to confront the woman.
But Jamey Schyler has other plans. She’s afraid
the police might have found something that connects
her to the diamond heist. So she makes sure on the first
trip to the States that she’s incognito. Thinking
she has all the paperwork in order, she returns to South
America without being detected. But within a few days,
she’s notified by the title company that the two
names on the deed didn’t match and that she’d
have to come back in person to prove they both belonged
to her.
Frustrated by her own mistake, Jamey is afraid she won’t
be so lucky this time. Bob Evans, her lover and accomplice
in the diamond heist, assures her that she has nothing
to fear. Jamey decides for personal reasons that it’s
worth her returning and plans only to be gone long enough
to correct the papers and hop on the next flight home.
Unbeknown to Jamey, Carl Hopkins, a computer guru, and
the man she framed to take the hit for the heist has
been released from prison. Hawkman becomes leary of
the ex-con when he shows up at his office and asks about
Jamey. Hawkman tries to discourage the man’s search,
but it doesn’t work. Hopkins is bound to make
Jamey pay for ruining his life.
Hawkman and Detective Williams try to keep track of
both, Jamey’s and Hopkins’ activities, but
finds the chore more complicated than expected. Jamey
is hiding from the authorities and Carl is hunting for
Jamey. A big circle of activity insues, causing frustration
on both sides.
