Emil Lampost and
Harland compete for the Mayor’s office in Terre
Bluff. Harland joins the race because he has a vision
for his hometown, and brings to the table a budget that
includes a much needed government center and a park,
with no tax increases. Emil’s only asset is that
he resembles Steve Martin, and he’s in the race
because his father wants him there, qualified or not.
After Emil’s yard signs
and bumper stickers show up in the most unlikely places
(Harland’s yard and car, for example), and the
police and local paper harass everyone connected to
Harland, broadcast journalist Fiona Caramy joins his
campaign in an attempt to offset the Lampost takeover.
What should be an easy, landslide
victory for Harland Fell turns into an uphill battle,
riddled with threats so absurd that the voters simply
shake their heads and say, “That could never happen
here.” Will they wake up in time to save Terre
Bluff?
