What exactly is a Business Plan?

A business plan is a written word document describing the business you'd like to begin, with a bent toward showing how it will become profitable. Usually, business plans begin with a statement explaining the purpose and principles of the business. It should show how the owner will fulfill these goals, including an extensive marketing strategy. A complete plan also has a break-even analysis, a profit-and-loss projection, also a cash-flow analysis designed to prove that if the business grows as expected, it will eventually make money.

Writing a Business Plan:

The format, structure, and content of the plan will vary based on your business idea and your intended demographic. If you're attempting to raise money from investors or borrow money from a bank, your plan should present rock-solid financial data and market research in a polished, professional package. If you happen to be funding your own business, you can forgo the sales pitch, but the root idea is the same: Research extensively and develop a business plan that depicts a realistic picture of the proposed business.
