Reviews for
Alien Fringe
by George LoBuono
I have a confession to make: I am an alien. I was born in
Athens, Greece when my mother and father were stationed over
there, about thirty-nine years ago. To paraphrase Robert Heinlein,
"they were strangers in a strange land."
In Alien Fringe, LoBuono's stories, the characters
are angry, disenfranchised, humorous, heroic, paranoid, and
tragic. We see their worlds as a working-class universe, from
tree planters in Clearcuts, to struggling artists searching
for adventure in Indonesia in Nobodies, to homeless people
looking for a little nourishment in A Memory of Small Mercies.
LoBuono observes his characters from an odd-angle lens. Whether,
they are aliens from another world. Men and women who are
simply alienated from society. It's a refreshing journey to
visit with these people. Their dreams, triumphs, and struggles
against the status quo that constantly collide with their
universe. Yet, most of them survive.
In For the Love of Ami, we see a love story from a distance.
A simple gesture or a smile becomes a danger in a world, where
misunderstandings lead to disaster. It's a sad reminder but
the smile remains as a measure of the only love a person can
offer.
After reading George LoBuono's Alien Fringe, you'll gain a
new perspective of the universe. People are not as different
as they seem to be, whether from Florida, the Pacific Northwest,
Indonesia or the Martian Sea, now living in Los Angeles. We're
all part of this body eclectic called earth.

This collection of mainstream, philosophical stories and
poems is imaginatively done. If you're looking for a well-written
non-genre book, by all means try Alien Fringe. The
stories will stay in your mind long after you finish reading
them.
