Review for
The Nine-Headed Serpent for Hercules
by Sylvia Maltzman
Sylvia has provide with these short clear
essays a deep look into the history of a dysfunctional family.
She has come to some conclusions that I agree with. She
says in Essay 3: Adult Children and Personal Limits that
she believes one of the reasons dysfunctional people live
their lives in a pendulum of swinging from one extreme to
another (or one pattern to another) is they are bipolar
and undiagnosed. I think this could be true not only of
bipolar disorder but also of compulsive-obsessive problems
as well.
I would recommend this book especially to every psychologist
and psychiatrist practicing today. There is something in
here for the everyday person as well as professional. Read
these essays and don't be surprised to find yourself or
your family members in many of them. I certainly did.
