Reviews for
The Poor Man's Cookbook
by Brenda and Cliff Roberts

Want to read a cookbook with a little family history? If you do, The Poor Man's Cookbook is for you.

Recipes of family members that were made and shared during precious moments of fellowship can be found within the pages of this book.

Recipes that will tempt your taste buds, but still not strain your budget can be made and enjoyed!

Zucchini bread, corn bread, Jell-O salad, all written with easy instructions for you the reader to make and share with those you love. My favorite would have to be Broccoli and Cheese Soup, with some of those

hot biscuits, that are said to be excellent! Yum! I will say however, that I am going to pass on the Rabbit Stew. But if I am ever starving, it's nice to know that recipe is there. I just hope I never have to use it!

If you want a cookbook that will help you save those pennies and give you some delightful stories to read while your cooking, this is it. A cookbook that shares a heart of a family!

Eat Well!

This is a great book for genealogy lovers! More than a collection of recipes, it’s a heart-warming slice of family history which uses an element common to all human beings: food. The type of food we prepare and eat shapes our lives down to the last molecule, and here we see that the Roberts’ combined families come from sturdy stock. Their blended legacy is one of grace under pressure and survival with celebration. Each humble but delicious recipe is related with pride and good humor. Here is something for everyone, from the novice cook to the busiest working parent. Although the foods described are traditional Southern cooking, the directions for preparing each dish are straightforward. The Roberts’ make everything sound easy and tempting. It’s easy to see why these recipes are family treasures.

At the heart of the book is the section on Thanksgiving, and like the best of Thanksgivings, this book invites you to the table with this large and openhearted clan. After poring through this unique collection, complete with photographs of family members and their treasured hand-written recipes, I feel as though this family has touched me, too.
