A Sight to Dream Of
by P.G. Forte
Sam Sterling, a wealthy Wall Street wizard finds
himself in a heap of trouble when he learns his partner was
setting him up for stock fraud. Sam goes into hiding until
he can get the evidence he needs to prove his innocence. He
ends up in a little town called Oberon, but it’s hard
to keep a low profile when the town reporter recognizes him.
Worst yet, the reporter
is murdered and Sam finds himself the prime suspect in a murder
investigation.
Marsha Quinn owns the Crone’s Nest and sells occult
merchandise. Marsha also has psychic abilities and very unusual
powers. She’s getting over a disastrous marriage when
she meets a man that makes her blood sizzle. Her senses tell
her she’s headed for serious trouble. Marsha knows Sam
isn’t what he seems, but finds she’s falling for
him anyway.
Oberon is a quiet little town, until a murder is committed
that threatens to uncover more than just one secret. Marsha’s
feelings for Sam grow but at the same time so does her suspicions.
Could Sam be involved in the murder of Paige Delaney, the
town reporter? What secrets was he hiding?
P.G. Forte combines romance and mystery along with humor
to write a story you will find most intriguing. Her characters
are well thought out and described in this tale of love, mayhem,
and murder. A Sight To Dream Of is a story about
a little town and the secrets it hides. Everyone gets in on
the action, with a large cast of characters whose lives and
secrets will make you think you’re watching an episode
of Dallas, with a touch of magic on the side. Add a little
thing like murder and you have a that will keep you guessing
“who did what to whom” till the very end. Marsha
fights her attraction for Sam because her ex, Alex, did a
very good job of hurting her, while Sam pushes her away because
he’s not sure if he’ll be in prison for fraud
or murder. A Sight To Dream Of is a great story and I recommend
you read book one in this series, Scent of the Roses, to learn
all the secrets in the town of Oberon.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Marsha Quinn is a sensible woman who can help anyone but
herself. She's also a professional psychic and a single mother
with two boys. Burned once, twice shy: she knows that love
is for other people. The mysterious Sam Presley appears in
her small town just before the murder of a discontented journalist.
Like a moth to flame, she's drawn to him instantly. Her psychic
perceptions conflict with her own common sense. Where did
he come from? Why is he here? Why his sudden wariness over
simple things like picnic tables? And how could he possibly
be attracted to someone as earthy, confused, and unattractive
as she?
Other oddities crop up in her circle of friends. Dear friends
are acting strangely about their connections to the murder
victim. Scout's off-again, on-again wedding arrangements are
in a total stew. Even fiery Lucy's devoted husband has a shifty
look about him. There is simply too much going on for a well-meaning
psychic to manage with her usual finesse.
As in her previous book, "Scent of the Roses" Ms.
Forte shows a powerful ability to create full-bodied characters.
It's clear that she loves them, and she puts the full force
of her imagination into exploring their emotional entanglements.
She has a lovely knack for rueful humor as when Marsha notes:
"The thought was so amazingly depressing, she was surprised
when her wrist veins didn't just pop open by themselves."
On the other hand, it troubled me to invest myself in a mystery
plot and then see it summarily solved with little commentary.
I never did figure out where the Darcy-Harry-Sam roots and
motivations lay, beyond the obvious. The loose ends in the
last book were not addressed in this book, so I assume these
are questions that will never be answered.
Ms. Forte is an excellent romantic writer with a wonderful
ability to get emotional turmoil down on the page. In both
books I've read, however, she shows a much stronger grasp
of romance and relationships than in mystery development.
If you want a wistful romance with a steamy touch, A Sight
to Dream Of is a good bet.
Ms. Forte continues the wonderful saga of Oberon with the
second book in this series. You will visit old friends and
meet new ones as this story continues. As you revisit this
town with all of the secrets and mystery, you will want to
keep coming back for more. I cannot wait for the next book
in this continuing saga. I want to read more about the townsfolk
of Oberon.
