In the morning light, towers of steel and glass, as far as the eye can see, shimmer like an illusion of the stars above. The people far below look so small and insignificant as they go about their everyday lives, unaware of the events going on up above. Ignorant of the giant meteor hurtling towards the world below, rich with strange minerals and energies foreign to this world, undetected by their technology. All that is seen by those who just so happen to look up is a streak of light descending to the ground towards the sun just rising on the horizon. Let's now look back into one of those insignificant people's lives. A former office worker was recently let go from his job. Never to be seen again after this moment.
He was having a rough night; his mother was highly sick, causing him much stress, which caused issues at his job, getting him fired by that pompous ass of a boss who was more concerned with profit than his workers' mental health. His wife kicked me out of the house when he got fired because she didn't want a lazy freeloader living there, despite her not having a job and spending all his money shopping for things they didn't need. So there he sat in the park, looking up at the night sky, hearing the rush of cars on the roads behind him, contemplating his life choices and events that led him here. He thought about how his father left his family when he was young and didn't know any better or when he was a teen; he was lazy and unwilling to get a job to help his mother with the stress of having to provide for him and keeping a roof over his head. Everything from his choice in college to attend to his selection in job and spouse.
Stolen story; please report.
He was sick of making choices that made him miserable. Looking up at the stars, he saw a streak of light shooting across the sky and made a wish. A wish to not have to make choices anymore and a way out of this situation he found himself in. Then he saw the light grow brighter and hit the ground. Suddenly, he shielded his eyes from a bright flash of light. Then a few seconds later, he got flung back over the bench he was on and into a tree, killing him instantly. His last thoughts were crap.
The world was changing slowly with the cave system's growth from the meteor's point of impact. That was also a sudden change, with the wave of destruction taking out not only the less structurally sound buildings but most of the advanced technology in the world, causing mass panic among the general populace and killing hundreds of millions of people. Governments collapsed, and new local ones sprung up to take their place to guide the masses. Society regressed into more of a feudal system with the most valuable skills for managing the new order at the top. During this time, entrances to the new tunnel system under the earth made discoveries that gave humidity new capabilities bringing them closer to how life used to be. With these discoveries, monsters were also found killing those who dared enter the depths, killing thousands for their greed. Eventually, cities formed around the entrances creating entire economies around the resources found within the depths. Using these resources for everything from fighting the monster of the depths to helping farms grow faster. The world was recovering and evolving in a different direction from where it once was. This began a new era, the beginning of something fantastical.
