The next day after breakfast Anton attended his classes and consolidated his magical foundation by focusing on what his teachers had been teaching them about the basics of magic. He was glad that all his teachers were the no-nonsense type who directly taught them the knowledge they were supposed to teach on the subject they were assigned. He was most impressed by them, and even if the mages had been charged double what they were currently charging, Anton would have gladly paid them.
His other five classmates were the same, seriously focusing on the lectures. They told him on one of their lunch gatherings that it was mostly because of the cost of the lessons, not wanting to waste them, and that the time on the Amelia was extremely precious since everyone who was from Rendindura, which was all of his five classmates, did not know what they would find in the Gale continent. Everyone wanted to increase their knowledge and wizardry rank so they could have a stable life in the new land where they were planning to stay.
All of the passengers who experienced the harrowing attack of the undead did not want to be passive when it happened to their new home. Just like Anton, they all wanted to have the power to fight.
Even though Antonia, Lucia, Walter, and Philip kept telling him that the Gale continent was relatively stable and that New Drennor would have the power to defend itself from any outside attack like the attacks of the Undead Coalition, Anton was still a little doubtful.
He thought the same of Zalnothel and thought when he first saw the city how magical and powerful it was but then when the Undead Coalition attacked, the city defenses did not even last two weeks.
At least with New Drennor separated by an ocean, it would be difficult for the Coalition to gather their forces to attack the new continent, Anton hoped. Not unless they had something like a Gate or Portal magic which he doubted because if magic like that was readily available, the supreme mages and the exceedingly wealthy nobles like Antonia’s family would not let themselves suffer the exhausting journey that was riddled with danger between two continents.
Anton wondered why that was so when the lesson was over with one of his teachers, he asked the question to High Wizard Dianne about portal magic.
“I don’t know much about dimensional magic because that is the purview of wizards with the rank of Invincible but I do know that supposedly, the resources it would take to punch a hole in the fabric of the universe to use it just to travel within the world was colossal and would not be worth it. In my understanding, the Invincible wizards only used that kind of magic in conquering another plane.”
High Wizard Dianne looked at Anton as if silently conveying that she understood why he asked that question.
During lunch with his classmates, they talked about Anton’s question regarding portal magic.
“Are you worried that the undead would use something like portal magic to attack New Drennor?” Fiona asked and Anton simply nodded.
“You don’t have to worry about that because during one of the public lectures before the wizard’s hall was turned into a temporary mage academy, the lecturer talked about it. The gist of the lesson was that no organization on this planet would use portal magic to travel between places in this world because the current spells that let a powerful wizard do something like that would harm the magic system and would affect everyone. That was why it was only used to conquer other planes because according to that lecturer, a portal to another plane or dimension would allow the mana of our world to heal using the other plane’s mana and if someone opened a portal within this world, the damage to the fabric of the universe would be healed but the mana of our world would use its own mana which would cause the location where the portal was opened to have something like a mana desert,” Edward said.
If you stumble upon this tale on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
“Not only that, any organization that attempted something like that would be destroyed because harming the mana of this world is the bottom line of most Invincible Wizards,” Rundall added.
“That is why no one thinks that the Undead Coalition will use something like portal magic. Not unless a new portal spell would be created that wouldn’t harm our world’s mana,” Helios said.
Anton knew then that it was a mistake not to attend those public lectures because apparently, the lectures tackle different types of magical topics. It would have been beneficial to someone like him who had only been living in this world for less than a year.
The rest of the day was mostly the same for Anton. He leveled up his new Amazon character, practiced his Diablo II spells, followed the music lesson that he purchased, and consolidated the information that the Earth’s netizens provided regarding mixing and matching Diablo II spells and creating enchanted items based on Diablo II spells. In Anton’s opinion, every bit of suggestion that the netizens gave was an extremely precious bit of knowledge that he would be able to use someday.
Anton’s Amazon character leveled up to level twelve and he was happy about that.
During dinner that night, Anders followed Anton’s suggestion regarding spending time in the suite instead of attending the dinner in the dining hall. Regarding the entertainment that the ship provided during dinner time, it was not too much of a loss because they could always see those entertainments in the live theater plays and music taverns and bars on the ship.
Besides, the best entertainment according to Anton’s rich friends could still be found in Anton’s family suite. For now, nothing could compare to the enjoyment that people would receive watching the movies that their family was presenting.
During dinner, they talked about everything they did that day, and even if some of the topics were unimportant, Anton felt that everyone was cherishing the time that they were all together. After dinner, they continued watching the next episodes of the television series that they had been watching.
The movie that the cinema would present the next day was still Dragonheart. Anton also planned to continue practicing their band music with Torun, Blake, Amelia, and Soren. It was incredibly fun because, to be honest, they would probably practice for like an hour and the rest of the time, they talked about everything and anything under the moon.
If Anton was asked, he knew that the band practice time was wasting their time but since they were only doing it a couple of times each week, granted they wasted four hours each time, he still felt that the enjoyment was worth it.
The next day while they were talking after practicing a bit, Anton asked Torun if it was okay with their families to waste their hours with him.
“They actually think that our meeting was some sort of investment. They wanted us to build our relationship with you since you’re a very powerful archmage and an extremely talented item enchanter. They even started bragging to everyone that we know you,” Torun said honestly and Anton just laughed.
“To be honest, if the movie tickets were not incredibly cheap, they would have probably used our relationship with you to get some discounts,” Soren mumbled and Andrea hit him in the head but just like before, Anton found it funny and just laughed.
