Epilogue

  Epilogue

With all creatures outside the city dismissed, Garfield flew over to Hannah’s position and landed.

  “How did it go?”

“A few weird creatures came flying over the wall, but I eliminated them,” she replied.

Garfield patted her on the head. The two proceeded on foot to Yttria’s location. She was on the wyvern, a child in each arm, presumably to let them escape with her if it came to it.

  “Sir Garfield! Is it over?”

“Yes, you can hop off the wyvern now and put those children down…”

  “Ah, yes…”

“I imagine the city’s going to be in utter chaos for a while,” said Garfield. “Now’s not really a good time to try and accomplish anything useful. I say this from experience. Should we have a bite to eat back home?”

A man on a horse came riding up to the group.

“Duke! The royal family is looking for you! Could you please report to the palace?”

Garfield contemplated escaping but gave up on the idea. “Let’s go…”

Garfield met with the King and various others, who were still in a tizzy over the morning’s events.

“Duke Garfield, I almost hesitate to even ask this, but could you possibly explain just what the heck just happened?”

“Somebody tried to copy my magic, so I put them in their place. They departed, and I don’t expect there to be any further threat to the city.”

“…And those strange lights descending from the heavens after all the tremors and fighting outside the city ceased?”

“A science experiment,” Garfield told the King.

Taken from Royal Road, this narrative should be reported if found on Amazon.

  “What?”

“I have a very good reason for specifically not explaining the details of that whole affair. I hope you can understand.”

“V-Very well. What will happen now?”

“I’m going home to have lunch. I imagine you will eat here in the palace.”

“That’s not what I mean!” the King shouted.

“I think it’s safe to say that the affair is over.” Garfield turned towards Yttria. “How would you like to join me for lunch?”

“I’d love to, if you’re not… too tired after all that…”

“I might take a nap later. Who knows?”

Garfield, Yttria, and Hannah all teleported straight to the manor. The staff needed some time to prepare lunch, seeing as how they were in a state of panic for the last couple of hours. Yttria and Hannah both questioned Garfield about various things, but he kept his answers mostly vague.

After lunch, as Garfield went to stand up, he suddenly had trouble maintaining his balance and leaned on the table. Both Yttria and Hannah rushed over to support him from each side.

“That took a bit more out of me than I thought…”

After Garfield flew away from the site of Battle with Pandora, one very brave soldier who secretly witnessed the entire thing, and mostly heard the conversation, returned to his barracks with an interesting story about the Duke and their Goddess Pandora.

In another spot, a pair of shadowy eyes tracked Hannah, having completely disregarded the major battle that took place outside the city.

The girls helped Garfield up to his room and lowered him on to the bed. They each sat next to him as he lay there.

“How do you feel?” asked Yttria.

“Just tired. I’ll probably be hungry for dinner, honestly."

Hannah moved closer to Garfield, not that that was particularly unusual at this point. She was very clingy. Then Yttria sighed and moved closer to Garfield as well.

“You don’t mind if I stay with you too, right?”

“Okay!” Garfield yelled. “But your scabbard is digging into my side!”

Yttria laughed and tossed the scabbard across the room.

“Next time you want to hop in the bed with me, at least ask for permission when I’m not under duress…”

“I will keep that in mind,” a new voice interjected.

All three spun to look at the new arrival, Pandora, who was standing by the foot of the bed.

  “What now?” Garfield asked her.

“My discussion with Him was enlightening… I believe, for both of us. I’ve decided to live in this world as a mortal for a short while.”

  “What’s a short while?”

“I believe 100 or 200 of your years would suffice,” Pandora said, deadpan.

“Make sure to visit once every few years! At least until I die from old age… then you’re on your own!”

“What nonsense are you spouting?” Pandora asked Garfield. “I’ve enjoyed our short time together more than anything else I’ve experienced in millions of years. My place is right here.”

  “…What?” Garfield replied.

  “Huh?” Yttria uttered.

  “Oh no…” said Hannah.

“Make room.” Pandora climbed on to the bed, wrestling for a prime position. “This bed is so soft…”
