Chapter 75 – The New Apostles’ First Mission

"Prevent these two from crossing paths without killing either of them," was the mission we received from headquarters through Isis on that blessed night. More than anything, I was confused, almost to the point of inaction. We were tasked with stopping a chance encounter between a merchant and Duke that would take pce in one of the kingdom's many forests.

How they had access to this information was beyond me, and knowing what Isis was capable of, I wondered why she couldn't be chosen for this particur mission. Why does it have to be us? Why can't we kill either of them? And most importantly, what are the consequences for failure? These and several other concerns were on my mind, but Lucia helped to ease my worries.

"Don't worry, Daphne. I won't let us fail this mission," She reassured me with a strength of resolve that radiated from her delicate features, making me think, She's way more confident these days, as we took all the items we felt we would need from the treasury.

"Thank you. I'm starting to feel better now," I expressed my gratitude.

"You're welcome!" She replied with a smile as she scooped me up like a princess and flew up into the air at subsonic speeds.

"W-when did you learn how to fly?!" I asked, my heart beating faster than it had in a while.

"It's a wind magic spell I learned recently," She answered as she expertly navigated the Dhampir castle.

"Woah! Slow down!" I excimed as we approached a huge, stained gss window, but she didn't heed my warning. I guess she's in her daredevil era, I thought as I closed my eyes and braced myself for a collision that... never happened? When I opened my eyes, I witnessed molten gss return to its original form after we had made our exit. Hmm, strange. Was there any magic that dealt with gss?

"Freedom at st!" Lucia celebrated by accelerating to truly absurd speeds, so much so, that we arrived at our destination in less than five minutes. "How are you feeling?" She asked as she dropped me on the forest floor with care.

"Not good. It's a miracle I'm not throwing up right now," I answered quite honestly, all the while thinking about the mission. The ruling Duke of the Grand Duchy of Tibeonia. Why would he be passing through this forest at this time? I was almost tempted to let everything py out as it was supposed to, but then... Who knows what would happen then?

"This is where he's supposed to be passing through, right?" Lucia asked.

"Yeah." The magic items we collected from the treasury pointed us to the right pce, but from there, we had no way of locating our target. I didn't want to fail this mission and prove ourselves useless to a Divine Beast I couldn't read, so I was already determined to pull out all stops when I remembered that Snipers had the best vision in the game.

  Change Css?:

Yes! I answered as the long list of csses with their respective stats and skills flooded my mind all at once. I still felt migraines every time, but I found the css I was searching for despite the pain.

  "Ugh."

"Are you okay? You seem like you're having a headache." Lucia asked worriedly.

"No, I'm fine," I fibbed as the panel appeared before me:

DaphneLV 100HP1302 + 40%Str723 + 40%Dex750 + 40%Spd349 + 40%Luck 566 + 40%P-DEF521 + 40%M-DEF679 + 40%Status-----CompatibilityLuciaSkills:Long Sight, Precision Strike+, Killing Intuition, Nature's Bounty, RecssingHmm, except for speed, my stats aren't that different from that of the Ranger css, I observed as I began to look into the other skills. [Precision Strike+] depended on chance and my Dex stat but ensured I would never miss, tripled the damage I dealt, and could even pierce through enemy defenses. That could come in handy. [Accuracy+] was gone and in its pce was [Long Sight], the skill that gave Snipers their reputation. I didn't know if it had been assimited into [Long Sight] or scrapped entirely, but I didn't have the luxury of time to ponder on these things.

"This is insane," I muttered because upon use, my vision became telescopic and clearer than ever before. It was like there was no difference between night and day, and I quickly capitalized on this, spending the next three minutes, looking around wordlessly until... "I found him!"

"How? And where?" Lucia asked with a slightly confused look on her face.

"I'll tell you about it ter, but he's coming from that direction!" Lucia cast a small fme and confirmed it for herself moments after I said so.

"You're full of surprises, Daphne!" She said as she began to magically bend the vegetation to her will.

"I'd say the same thing for you," I shot back as I watched the vines, wood, leaves, and roots come together to form a monster I'd never seen before. "Didn't they say we shouldn't kill either of them?"

"Yeah, but who said we couldn't have him in our debt?" She inquired with a devious grin that sent shivers down my spine. Oh, Lucia, I'm loving you more and more! I thought to myself as the show began.
