Chapter 5 | Xanthia On School

Anyone who has been sick or is currently unwell understands how precious a healthy body truly is.

Xanthia's previously frail and sickly condition was like a ticking time bomb, always at risk of succumbing to illness.

When she fell ill, it would inevitably lead to a loss of appetite, lethargy, and a sharp drop in happiness, severely disrupting her progress in improving her attributes.

From the original host’s memories, this body, burdened with a weak immune system, was often unwell, catching colds and fevers with every seasonal change. Over time, the original host grew increasingly depressed and weary of life.

For this reason, Xanthia concluded that spending her happy points on health was worth it. Although "healthy body" was just a common attribute, its benefits significantly reduced the likelihood of falling ill—or even worse, dying.

Feeling reassured, Xanthia enjoyed a good night’s sleep.

Upon waking, the system notified her of an increase in happy points. It made sense; after all, restful sleep does boost one’s mood.

As she washed up in the morning, she noticed her reflection in the mirror had changed. Her complexion, once lifeless and pale, now seemed vastly improved.

Though her skin remained fair, it no longer appeared sickly. To her delight, as the negative status transformed into "Healthy," her charm points also increased slightly. Perhaps the "Social Butterfly" attribute pyed a part.

It’s true that compared to overly introverted individuals, lively and cheerful ones tend to be more popur.

After enjoying a satisfying breakfast, Xanthia took the bus to Thessaloniki First High School, following the original host’s memories. The original host, a neglected young dy, didn’t even have the privilege of a private car.

Having endured hardships in her previous life, Xanthia didn’t mind the bus ride. It was just two stops, with a commute of over ten minutes—a luxury for someone accustomed to grueling work schedules!

Xanthia eagerly anticipated her upcoming school life.

The school environment would undoubtedly present more challenging tasks. Additionally, maintaining a positive mindset would help her accumute more happy points.

Those who have faced the harsh realities of life know how carefree and liberating school days can feel.

Xanthia had once been a diligent student, spending her youth immersed in books. In this new life, she decided to adopt a more rexed and open-minded approach, determined to savor her high school experience to the fullest.

In short, her priority was finding joy and amassing happy points. As for academics, she pnned to maximize the potential of her "Wisdom Root" attribute.

After two stops and about ten minutes, Xanthia arrived at the school gate.

The entrance to Thessaloniki First High School was grand, and the campus was vast, boasting luxurious and comprehensive facilities befitting its status as the province's top high school.

At the gate, vigint guards checked the "day student passes." According to the original host’s memories, her css, Year 1 Css 3, consisted mostly of boarding students from various parts of the province, with retively few day students.

Morning reading css was about to begin when Xanthia entered the cssroom, her arrival unnoticed.

The original host had been so inconspicuous that her presence barely registered with her cssmates. Socially anxious, she had only become familiar with her deskmate, Xenia La Sagrada, and didn’t even know the names of the other students.

Likewise, few knew her name. She had missed the military training at the start of the term due to poor health and had failed to integrate into the css.

As Xanthia sat at her desk, Xenia didn’t initiate a conversation.

To Xenia, this low-profile deskmate seemed incapable of socializing and possibly even fearful of it, so she refrained from disturbing her.

Having such a quiet deskmate was peaceful—but also dull.

Xanthia, however, didn’t rush to change the original host’s habits. Instead, she retrieved a history textbook from this world and began a “spot the difference” exercise, noting simirities and differences with the texts from her previous world.

Wait—where were all of William Shakespeare’s essays? Oh, right… William Shakespeare didn’t exist in this world.

Indeed, in this realm, some authorities deemed his works overly subversive, causing discomfort.

She then flipped through the politics textbook and discovered that it avoided the murky depths of political intrigue, focusing instead on patriotism. Quite positive…

As Xanthia was absorbed in comparing the textbooks, the entrance of the homeroom teacher and Greek-Latin nguage instructor, Emmanuel El Alcantara, drew the css’s attention.

Although Emmanuel was male, his high-pitched voice and unpredictable temperament, coupled with sudden outbursts of anger, made him fearsome. Students had privately nicknamed him "Great Terrorist," a testament to his unpopurity.

Emmanuel embodied the archetype of an old-school educator. Humorless and authoritative, he believed fear was essential to maintaining order.

Walking to the podium with a sullen expression, he surveyed the css. The sporadic murmurs of morning reading displeased him, but what truly angered him were the results of the previous day’s diagnostic test.

"Stop reading!" Emmanuel’s sharp voice cut through the room, silencing the students. A tense atmosphere settled as everyone waited for what was coming.

"I’ve reviewed your diagnostic test results," he began, his tone brimming with disappointment. "They are disgraceful. This is supposed to be one of the top csses in Thessaloniki’s finest high school, yet your performance is appalling."

Xanthia sifted through the original host’s memories, feeling uneasy. The original host had consistently struggled with such tests, her frequent illnesses leaving her too drained to excel academically.

"As your homeroom teacher," Emmanuel continued, "I expect far better. Starting today, we will implement stricter measures to ensure improvement."

He outlined new rules: additional homework, mandatory study sessions, and tighter discipline. The students exchanged worried gnces, dreading the already rigorous schedule becoming even harsher.

Xanthia sighed inwardly but remained composed. She understood that navigating this new life required maintaining her health and utilizing her "Wisdom Root" attribute to tackle challenges.

When the lecture ended, Emmanuel dismissed the css with a stern warning. "Remember, your future is at stake. Do not take this lightly."

The cssroom buzzed as students discussed the changes. Xanthia took a deep breath, determined to face the challenges head-on. While the path to happy and success was full of obstacles, she was resolved to make the most of her second chance.

"Everyone, attention. For today’s Greek morning reading, we’ll hold a css meeting and reorganize seating," Emmanuel announced before unching into a storm of admonishments.

Despite the css not being an elite experimental one, it was composed of students who had scored highly in provincial exams. Emmanuel’s pride as an educator left him dissatisfied with their ckluster performance.

To prevent distractions, he began rearranging seats. Friends who were split up exchanged helpless looks.

"Dematero! Switch seats with Xenia and sit beside Xanthia," Emmanuel barked, interrupting the chatter. Dematero, stunned, gnced toward Xanthia and winced as though facing a prison sentence.

Meanwhile, Xanthia, indifferent, heard a chime in her head:

[Ding! Pain points from Dematero +233. The shopping function has been unlocked.]

A wave of surprise hit her. Who knew pain points would arrive so easily?

Still, she couldn’t help but feel amused. Did Dematero really find her such an undesirable deskmate? His exaggerated grimace said it all.
