Episode 67: Accused! The Mystery of the Flying Gem!!

[Scene 1 – The Calm Before the Storm]

The Crystal Brawlers have made their way out of Porella City, traveling towards the 6th Path, a rugged terrain filled with unpredictable weather and treacherous roads. The group is taking a much-needed break in a shaded area beneath a few tall trees. Kouchu, Shauna, and Sakuro are lounging, enjoying a moment of peace after the tense days of travel.

Kouchu, ever the playful spirit, challenges Sakuro to a game of skill. They stand next to a large catapult, which they’ve come across along the path. Kouchu holds a large, glowing gem in his hand, tossing it up and down in excitement.

  Kouchu (grinning):

“Bet I can launch this gem farther than you can throw it!”

  Sakuro (raising an eyebrow):

“Don’t be too cocky, Kouchu. I bet I can land it right on that target over there.”

The two laugh as they play, oblivious to the tension in the air. Shauna watches them with a concerned look, her eyes flickering nervously as the two start to get more daring with their actions.

  Shauna (warning):

“Guys, be careful with that thing. We don’t know what it’s for or if it’s safe.”

Kouchu, not taking Shauna’s warning seriously, decides to raise the stakes.

  Kouchu (laughing):

“Okay, Sakuro, I dare you to shoot this gem at Doctor Jax, the Life Nurse over there.”

Sakuro, with a slight smirk, nods and pulls the lever on the catapult, aiming at Doctor Jax, a nearby figure who’s been casually examining a map. The gem is launched with tremendous force, soaring through the air. The shot is unexpected and lands squarely on Doctor Jax’s head.

  Kouchu (eyes wide in disbelief):

  “Oh no…!”

The gem strikes Doctor Jax with a loud thud, knocking him unconscious. Shauna gasps in horror, running over to check on him.

  Shauna (frantically):

  “Doctor Jax! No, no, no!”

Sakuro, seeing the severity of the situation, quickly pulls Kouchu aside.

  Sakuro (coldly):

“We need to hide the body, now.”

Kouchu’s heart races, and before he knows it, Sakuro has already started digging a hole in the dirt. He watches in a daze as the two hastily bury Doctor Jax’s body, trying to cover up their accidental crime.

  [Scene 2 – The Investigation]

Hours later, the police arrive, having been alerted by a concerned passerby who witnessed the incident from a distance. They quickly descend upon the scene, scouring the area for any signs of foul play. When they find the freshly dug dirt, they unearth Doctor Jax’s body and take immediate action.

  Police Officer (sternly):

“Who did this? Someone explain, now.”

Kouchu, his heart pounding, stands frozen, too terrified to speak. Shauna nervously points towards Sakuro, but all eyes are on Kouchu, who was closest to Doctor Jax when the incident occurred. The police quickly accuse him of the crime, labeling him a murderer.

  Police Officer (accusingly):

“You’re the one who threw the gem, aren’t you? You’ve been hiding evidence. We’ll take you in for questioning.”

Kouchu’s stomach twists in knots as the police handcuff him, the weight of the accusation hanging over him like a suffocating cloud. His mind races, trying to process what has happened.

[Scene 3 – The Courtroom Drama]

Kouchu is brought to court, and a tense atmosphere fills the air. He stands before the judge, the entire Crystal Brawlers and his family seated in the gallery. The brawlers are visibly shaken, but they’re determined to prove Kouchu’s innocence. Kouchu, however, is struggling with self-doubt.

  Kouchu (to himself):

“How did it go so wrong? I didn’t mean to… hurt anyone.”

The courtroom doors slam open as the prosecutor steps forward, presenting the case. They claim that Kouchu deliberately attacked Doctor Jax with the gem, burying him in an attempt to cover up the crime. The evidence seems damning, and Kouchu feels like the walls are closing in on him.

  Prosecutor (with conviction):

“Your Honor, the evidence is clear. This boy is guilty of a crime so severe, it cannot be overlooked. He is a murderer.”

The brawlers watch helplessly from the stands. Shauna grips the edge of her seat, worried for her friend. Sakuro, who seems unusually calm, stands with his arms crossed, his eyes steely and unreadable.

  Shauna (whispering to Sakuro):

“This isn’t right. We need to find a way to prove Kouchu didn’t do this.”

Sakuro’s lips curl into a faint, cynical smile as he leans in.

  Sakuro (quietly):

“Don’t worry. The truth will come out.”

[Scene 4 – The Truth Revealed]

The defense begins, with the Crystal Brawlers trying to prove Kouchu’s innocence. Roaracryst and the Crystal Monsters offer their testimony, speaking of the chaotic events leading up to the incident. Kouchu recalls the gem flying off the branch and how it hit Doctor Jax purely by accident. Roaracryst speaks up, explaining how the gem’s flight was influenced by forces beyond their control, showing that it was not a deliberate act.

  Roaracryst (stepping forward confidently):

“I can vouch for Kouchu. This was no attack. The gem was launched in a moment of reckless play, and it struck Doctor Jax only because the trajectory was off. Kouchu never meant for this to happen.”

With the Crystal Monsters’ backing and their vivid recollections, the truth begins to surface. The brawlers present evidence that clears Kouchu’s name, showing the true nature of the gem’s flight path.

Just as the trial seems to be nearing its conclusion, Doctor Jax—who has since regained consciousness—arrives at the courthouse. His eyes are groggy but clear, and he steps forward to confirm what the others had said.

  Doctor Jax (groggily):

“It was an accident… I know Kouchu didn’t mean to hurt me. I can’t remember much, but I’m alive because it wasn’t intentional.”

The courtroom erupts in murmurs of disbelief and relief as Kouchu is exonerated. The judge calls for the charges to be dropped, and Kouchu is officially cleared of all accusations.

  [Scene 5 – Aftermath]

Later that day, the Crystal Brawlers stand together in the courthouse, a sense of relief washing over them as the weight of the trial lifts. Kouchu, exhausted but grateful, looks around at his friends and family who supported him throughout the ordeal.

Kouchu (with a weak but relieved smile):

  “Thank you, everyone… I don’t know what I would’ve done without you.”

  Shauna (softly):

“We’re always here for you, Kouchu. We knew you’d never do something like that.”

  Sakuro (coolly):

“Just don’t go around playing with dangerous gems next time.”

Kouchu laughs, relieved, but there’s a darker realization hanging in the air—the consequences of rash actions, and the fine line between innocent fun and disaster. As the group prepares to leave the courthouse, Kouchu takes one last look at Doctor Jax, who waves at him from a distance.

Kouchu, now more aware of the responsibility that comes with being a Brawler, silently vows to always think twice before acting again.
