Chapter 27. Elima Autumn II

When the Hazaros heard that the Duke was going to Darkwhisper City, Danister was the first to jump out and express whether it was possible to refuse it.

"No, the Pope has already made the final decision on this matter. I have no reason to refuse," Damis said.

However, Melanie excitedly grabbed her brother's hand, "Brother, brother, you must save my son..."

Danister glanced at Milani angrily, and she looked at her husband, "There are so many people in Elima, why do you have to go? This is too dangerous. I will go find my brother and ask him to reject the Pope's request."

"Daniester!" The Duke grabbed his wife, "Don't be silly." He knew that his wife was worried about him, but if it was true as she said and Duke Innicart was involved, the matter would take a different turn.

The Pope did not like nobles forming factions, and he knew this very well. Over the years, he moved between several nobles and bishops, doing his best to maintain a close but not too distant relationship with each family.

"Master! You are going to Darkwhisper City!" Danister shook off the Duke's hand. "How can I not worry?! They are dragon people, dragon people who eat human flesh and peel off human skin. Even if Cesare sends all the knights to go with you, it won't work!"

When Milannie heard Danister's contempt for her son, she suddenly stepped forward and grabbed Danister's hand, "What did you say! What did you just say?!"

Lancer and Rebecca, who were standing nearby, saw this and stepped forward to help their mother, while Avni and Silver Dove also stepped forward, hoping to pull the two angry women apart.

Seeing that the two women were about to fight, the Duke slammed the table and said, "Stop it! There is no room for negotiation on this matter." He looked at Melanie and said, "Nefer, come with me. Call him back in the next few days. I have something to discuss with him." He turned and looked at his eldest son again, "Lance, how is the matter I talked to you about last time?"

"Is it the marriage with the Longnika family?" Lanser stroked his hair, "Everything is going well."

"Before I go to Darkwhisper City, I hope to meet with Duke Longnika to finalize this matter." The Duke said, "You come to arrange this matter."

"Yes, father." Lanser nodded. His father had his reasons for being so anxious to arrange a marriage between him and the Longnika family. Even though he was not interested in Lindsay, who among these families was more suitable for him than Lindsay?

"Avni." The Duke looked at his youngest son who had just got married, "and the silver pigeon."

"Yes, father." Yavni stood not far away holding the silver pigeon. At the age of 19, he had no idea why the gloomy atmosphere in the house was so heavy. Didn't they win the battle? Didn't Cesare destroy the elite of the dragon clan? Father was representing Elima to negotiate peace with the Dark Whisper City. What was so dangerous about this?

"The seminary exam is coming up soon. You promised me that you would study hard after we get married." He looked at his innocent and naive youngest son, feeling powerless. He was too young and didn't know anything... On the contrary, his wife, the Duke, looked at Yinge. Even though the woman was about the same age as his daughter, she already had such a firm look in her eyes.

"Oh, father, don't talk about these things at this time." Yaweni said quickly. He is already an adult, and it is really boring to be reminded to study all the time.

"Rebecca, take good care of your mother, okay? Control your temper, or you won't be able to get married." The Duke looked at his most beloved daughter, "Vic from the Fumel family is a good child, don't always think about unrealistic things, okay?"

"Father!" Rebecca shouted quickly, "Stop talking."

The Duke shook his head. "I know this journey is very dangerous, but I can't refuse the Pope." He smiled bitterly as if he remembered something. He had tried hard to hide for so many years, but he couldn't escape in the end. Finally, the Pope remembered him.

"Master..." Danister reached out and hugged her husband, "You must be safe."

"Dannister," the Duke hugged his wife, "please control your temper and don't be so impulsive, okay?"

"Sir, please stop talking like that," Danister said softly.

"Come with me to the garden, Elima, it's autumn again, look how beautiful the maple tree in the yard is..." Damis Hasare looked at his wife. They had been married for 30 years and had quarreled for 30 years. His wife was a famous tigress in the aristocratic circle. She was arrogant and domineering, but at this time, she finally softened her temper.

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

She gave birth to three sons for him. Even though those children were somewhat weak and spoiled, they were their children. The Duke thought, he had been busy and forbearing for half his life, wasn't it for these children? He worked hard to pave the way for them and left them a large inheritance, so that they had no worries about food and clothing. If something unexpected really happened during this trip, the Duke thought, they could live a good life.

"The conspiracy of the Eastern Continent..." Cesare snorted and threw the file on the table. "These people are really imaginative."

"The survivors in Milam's shop said that Milam and his bodyguard went to the trading house on Green Lane that night and never came back." Lonnie said, "Milam told the people in the shop that afternoon that there would be a big business again. Four Orientals brought the best spices. They didn't seem to know the market of Elima at all. They dared to walk around the trading street with ambergris."

"Oh?" Cesare looked up. "Isn't this a story about a Uliana merchant who wanted to rob his goods?"

"Yes, we thought so at first." Lonnie continued, "But someone reported that several Orientals were found in Elima City in those days, and one of them turned out to be General Alan Nuha of the Mingxia Empire."

Cesare frowned, and calmly asked Lonnie, "Who reported it?"

"She's a prostitute from the Quewu House."

"Quewu?" Cesare stood up. "Do the Ulianas know about this, too?"

  "Yes, Your Highness."

"Interesting." Cesare smiled. "Call that whore over here. This is getting more and more interesting."

Fiona looked at everything around her with trepidation, and then she saw Duke Lorenzo sitting in front of her.

He didn't look well, maybe because of the rumors that he was poisoned too deeply, Fiona thought. She knelt down to the Duke, "Your Highness."

"Are you Fiona?" Cesare supported his face and looked at the other party.

  "Yes, Your Highness." Fiona nodded.

The Que House... What a nostalgic place. Cesare couldn't help but think of a person. He wondered if her trip to the East went smoothly and if everything was okay.

"How many years have you been at the Sparrow House?"

"I have been in the sparrow house since I was a child, and it has been 15 years now."

"You said that General Alan Nuha of the Mingxia Empire was found in the city of Elima?" Cesare asked in a cold voice.

Fiona quickly replied, "Yes, Your Highness."

  "Tell me more details."

Fiona raised her eyes and looked at the other person. "That person went to the sparrow house with a young man and took away a girl from our side. What I said is true. Many people in the sparrow house saw it."

Cesare narrowed his eyes. "How do you know that the other party is Mingxia's general?"

Fiona hesitated for a moment, "He said so himself."

Cesare snorted. "If he said it himself, why were you the only one who found out?" He raised his body and crossed his hands on the table. "Ms. Fiona, why didn't you report it immediately after you knew that the other party was General Alan Nuha, but instead told the news to the people of the Uliana Chamber of Commerce? Miss Fiona, can I suspect that you have other purposes and are intentionally provoking a dispute between Elima and the Mingxia Empire?"

His voice was soft but his tone was aggressive, which was something a woman from a brothel could not withstand.

Fiona knelt on the ground immediately, "Your Highness! I dare not lie to you! I am telling the truth, that is indeed General Alan Nuha of the Mingxia Empire!"

"Oh? Then who told you that he was General Alan Nuha? How could you, a woman who grew up in a brothel, know a general from another country?"

"Yes, someone told me..." Fiona spoke without thinking.

"Who is it?" Cesare narrowed his eyes and carefully suppressed his inner surprise. Could it be that someone discovered his transaction with the Oriental people?

  "I can't say..." Fiona whispered.

"Someone come." Cesare ignored the woman's wailing, "Take her away for interrogation. I want to see who is behind her."

"Please spare me, Your Highness! I really can't say it! That man is indeed General Alan Nuha!" Fiona was dragged away. Ronny and Sander, who were standing aside, looked at Cesare with some embarrassment.

"Your Highness, although this woman's words are a little suspicious, they may be true." Lonnie said, "If there really is a general from Mingxia among those Orientals, then we have reason to suspect that the Yuanyue Massacre was a conspiracy of the Orientals."

Cesare raised his hand to stop Lonnie from speaking, "What's the motive? There must be a motive for everything." He said slowly, "The Mingxia Empire and Elima have always maintained a non-interfering relationship. It does them no good to create the Full Moon Massacre and put the blame on Uliana."

Lonnie pondered, "Yes, this is what I can't understand the most. If it was done by the dragon people, it would make some sense. Mingxia has never had any contact with us, and he is on the other side of the sea. Why would he come to Elima City to create chaos? I can't understand it, I can't understand it." He turned around and glanced at Sander beside him, "Hey, Sander, what do you think?"

"Ah, ah?" Xander quickly came back to his senses and looked at Lonnie and Cesare. "What?"

"It's not good to be distracted. Let me ask you a question. Do you think that man was General Alan Nuha?" Lonnie asked. "And do you think the Full Moon Massacre was done by an Oriental?"

"Well... I don't think the evidence is clear enough, so we shouldn't be so arbitrary." Sander's answer was ambiguous.

"The breakthrough is still that woman." Cesare said, "Someone must have instructed her to do that. Find that person."

"Yes, Your Highness," Xander and Lonnie said quickly.

Cesare coughed twice. He only sat for a while before he felt exhausted. He stood up and wanted to go back to the house to rest, but he did not see Sander's thoughtful expression.

Sander looked at Cesare's figure, and he finally recalled the Orientals he met outside Cesare's tent that morning. He felt that one of them looked familiar. When the woman said that name today, he suddenly remembered that the other person was Alan Nuha, the general of the Mingxia Empire.

He looked at Cesare with some suspicion. If he could recognize that person, could His Highness not recognize him? Or... was there something that couldn't be known to others?

He didn't want to doubt Cesare, but this was too strange.
