Chapter 25

Alongside suppressors for their weapons, the pair also bought a K100 pistol, its respective suppressor, some 9x19mm parabellum ammo, a pair of wire cutters and some other gadgets Jaiden had.

"Bye Jaiden!" Mumei bid adieu as the pair went to stash their primaries in their car.

With their task completed, the pair decided to kill some time. Mumei took the time to change into more casual wear, a pair of blue wide leg jeans, bck crop top and some bck sneakers.

"What do you want to do now?" Mumei asked, "We've got a couple of hours till the sun sets."

#I don't know. We could just walk around for a bit.#

Following their conversation, Mumei and Ataraxia walked around, following wherever fate led them till night arrived.

  Waverly Avenue Substation...

Parking their car at the substation the pair had scouted out previously, Ataraxia entered an alleyway to scale a house's downpipe and some overhanging bricks along it's wall to get to the roof. Having made it to the top, Ataraxia set up her Ballista's bipod and y prone, covering herself with a brick red cloak they bought from a fashion shop to hopefully reduce her visibility. Once settled, Ataraxia activated her radio thrice to signal she was ready to provide overwatch and covering firing if things went south.

Meanwhile, Mumei cut the mesh fence using wire cutters.

"I'm in." Mumei whispered into her radio

  *CLACK CLACK*

Ataraxia clicked her radio twice in response.

The substation sprawled like a byrinth, with the thick transformers and towering breakers covering the station. Cameras were scattered around the station. While seeming to be pced haphazardly, they were pced in a fascinating way that most points of interests were monitored. All except the control house, which presumably has CCTV inside instead.

'The pn's simple. Get in. Find some way to break the flow of electricity to either the whole city, or just Harold's mansion. Get out.' Mumei recalled Ataraxia's written words. Mumei made her way towards the control house, being careful to avoid any and all cameras and guards, which Ataraxia helpfully warned her of by clicking her radio. Finally arriving at the front of the control station, Mumei readied her rifle in one hand, her other on the door handle.

  *CLICK*

The door opened in front of Mumei, just before she was about to open it.

  'Shit.'

Mumei scurried away as fast as possible, hiding around the corner of the control house.

"Man. This job is so boring." The guard who left the control house said to the person he was calling. "Yeah yeah. It's safe. Harold makes sure the necessary security measures are in pce."

  'Just fucking leave already.'

"Alright. Call you ter love. It's my turn on patrol duty now. Yes, yes. I love you as well Martha. Goodbye." The guard hung up before muttering, "Hah. It's so fucking cold outside. Why can't I just stay inside, watching the electricity levels in the control house?"

  'Finally!'

The guard moved away, starting on his patrol around the station.

Instead of going for the door, Mumei cooled her nerves and peaked at the situation inside through the window.

'1 Camera, no guards in this room.'

  *CREAK*

The quiet sound of a door opening punctured the silence.

  *TAP*

Mumei cautiously put one step into the room.

  ...

  Nothing happened.

  Exhaling, she continued in.

The room was bnd, completely empty save for a chair and a table. Clearly, the guard who was supposed to be on duty here was te.

  'Oh well. Works for me.'

Before opening the door to the left, Mumei took out a selfie stick and attached her phone to it. Switching to the camera, she stuck the camera into the gap between the door and the floor.

On the other side, electrical items and devices overflowed the room. Along with a single CCTV camera at the far end of the room. There were two guards inside, both of which had their backs facing her.

'Guess it's time to break out mystery gadget number one.' Mumei joked as she pulled out an EMP grenade.

Opening the door ever so slightly, she lobbed the grenade inside, along with a frag grenade, and shut the door tightly.

  *BANG*

Arms bred through the speakers on the compound. All the guards were alerted now.

'Ah shit. This was a stealth operation. At least it was funny seeing the guy's panic as they were paralysed, with a grenade in front of them. The electricity will be down as well... right?' Mumei thought, "I... may or may not have threw a frag grenade."

  *TUNK*

A suppressed sniper rifle rang out near an alleyway 300 meters away from the substation.

Alleyway, 300 Metres from Waverly Avenue Substation...

'What the fuck are you doing that requires a fragmentation grenade?' Ataraxia thought as she clicked her radio in response and moved her rifle to aim at a guard.

'Not to mention the city still has power!' Ataraxia thought as she pulled the bolt back to eject the bullet casing.

  *TUNK*

'Thankfully, the city's response team aren't here yet.' Ataraxia decided to focus on the positives, 'Mumei needs to hurry up and get the fuck out of there though.'

  *TUNK*

Aiming through the scope, Ataraxia aimed at another guard. With a pull of her trigger, the woman's head spt, bursting open like a watermelon and painting the concrete floor and her colleagues red. Another shot tore through a man's spine. The next grazed a man's arm, the man who was calling Martha from earlier, only for Mumei to put three bullets put through his head. The one after had messily blown a woman's entire right leg off.

'It's time to move.' Ataraxia thought as she got down from her roof to relocate. Making use of the predetermined communication signals she and Mumei had set, Ataraxia clicked her radio three times to signify the ck of fire support for the time being.
