Sarah smiled at me. "You think just because you evolved, Leotyrex, that you have the upper hand? Aegielf is here, and it's ready to play!"
"Bring it on!" I replied.

"Alflin!" it exclaimed, pointing at me with a smirky pout that could put a cat to shame.
Spade growled and I had to run my hand through his fur to ease him.
"Clever little elf," I muttered, battling a smile myself. "But it's my turn now!" I quickly drew a card from my deck, revealing 'APEX Power-Up!', but I knew I had something better planned.
"Leotyrex! Let's show them what a [Portal Roar] can do!" I declared. "Activate your APEX Trait!"
With a roar that echoed through the battlefield, Leotyrex unleashed its signature move. A rift opened, crackling with energy as it aimed at my Osseod on the Bench spot! The air shimmered as reality itself seemed to warp around us.
"Let's see if luck is on my side!" I flipped a coin, watching it tumble through the air. Heads it was—my luck held!

Oreseod's shimmering body rolled up into a compact form, its outer layer of jagged crystals glinting in the light. "This will absorb the next attack!"
Sarah tapped her cheek. "Not bad, Jake! But it's not the best move either. Aegielf, let's hit them with another [Glyph Barrage]!" she commanded, raising her hand dramatically.
Aegielf conjured a series of glowing sigils once again, launching them toward Oreseod with a flourish. The air crackled as the barrage of sigils flew across the battlefield, painting arcs of light.

But just as the mystical projectiles were about to collide with Oreseod's shield, they encountered a burst of shimmering energy. The protective shell absorbed the attack with a satisfying zing, shimmering and humming as the sigils faded into sparkling dust.
However, the follow-up effect had been sealed, meaning I no longer had the bonus [30] damage for the next attack—[Crystal Carapace].
