Chapter 6
Caspian and Rolund stood in one of the many training fields, a cool breeze sent a chill down Caspian’s neck in the early morning air. Rolund produced the Sun Drop given to Caspian by Ray Balman two months ago.
“Do you know what this does?” He asked, his tone like a teacher.
Caspian thought for a moment before giving his answer. “Ray said that it enhanced the user’s aura and strengthened their abilities.”
“That is correct, Sun Drops are molded directly from the stars themselves. Do you know who creates them?” Caspian stood silent for a moment before shaking his head, intrigue on his face.
Rolund held the Sun Drop between his fingers, moving to place it into Caspian’s hand.
“Sun Drops are created directly by Surran, the Goddess of Stars. As such they are divine artifacts, but do not hold the power of others.” He said, holding up Caspian’s hand so he could see the Sun Drop.
Caspian stared at it in awe. The warmth radiating from it should be burning him, but it only filled him with a sense of safety. It felt like the warm embrace of family, his thoughts drifted to that day but the light of the Sun Drop washed them away like the tide.
Rolund watched the boy with a contemplative gaze. The possibility of him reaching 4 Star was so amazing, and yet he dreaded it. 4 Stars, while not unheard of, were still so rare that each one was the stuff of legend. They were at the peak of human potential for most of history, only the twelve 5 Stars being more powerful. Rolund knew that whatever Caspian did in life, if he chose to be a sorcerer, he would be known by the entire world.
“So,” Caspian said, struggling to take his eyes off of the item in his hand. “do I use this? And if so… How?”
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road. If you spot it on Amazon, please report it.
Rolund cleared his thoughts, those thoughts would have to wait until later. He kneeled down to be face to face with the boy, a grin playing at the corners of his mouth.
“Oh, you get to use it.” He said mischievously. “And it’s just as easy as the registration crystal.”
Caspian’s eyebrows rose slightly. “I just need to focus on it?” Rolund nodded, shrugging his shoulders.
Caspian took a breath, rolling his shoulders to loosen their tension. Then he focused everything onto the Sun Drop, the rest of the world seemed to fade away as its warmth pressed in on him. He saw nothing but its light, felt nothing but its warmth. Then he saw her, a woman of starlight standing before him. Her golden cloak and glowing yellow hair flowing in the non existent wind. She looked down at him with a bright smile like all the stars in the universe were staring at him.
“Thank you for accepting my gift.” She said softly, her voice boomed with a power Caspian couldn't comprehend.
He could feel it, the truth of what this being was. This was Surran, the Goddess of Stars. He tried to respond, but his body was frozen. She gave him a wink, and just like that she was gone. The world returned and the Sun Drop was gone from his hand. He looked down and saw a dim glow in his chest that grew even dimmer by the second, eventually disappearing. His chest felt warm, like he just drank a mug of hot cocoa.
He looked up, seeing Rolund waiting expectantly, his eyes gleamed with curiosity. Caspian stood in silence for a long moment, trying to find the best way to explain what he just went through.
“I saw her. The Goddess lady.” He said finally, his voice sounding deeper than normal.
Rolund cocked an eyebrow, he hadn't seemed to expect that answer. “You… Saw the Goddess of Stars?” He copied, his words slow and unbelieving. “What did she look like?”
Caspian thought for a moment, a hand moving to scratch the side of his face in contemplation. “I guess… she was very glowy and yellow.” He said, almost unsure of his answer as he shrugged his shoulders.
Rolund’s shoulders slumped and his mouth dropped. He stared at Caspian for what seemed like an eternity in slack jawed awe. The Goddess of Stars herself, had appeared to this boy as he absorbed a Sun Drop. Rolund forced his mouth shut and stood up straight again, a smile grew across his face as he looked down at the boy. He would be very great indeed.
“Do you know what we need to do now?” Rolund asked, his question more rhetorical than anything. Caspian shook his head, waiting for the answer.
Rolund smiled wider, almost ear to ear as his next words brought him joy. “We train.”
