Chapter 1: Morning Bonds and Breakfast Truces

As Grandma, Michael, and Lisa sat in the living room letting the events of the day settle in, they pondered the possibilities the future held.

Lisa stood. “I'm going to bed. It's a late night. I'm tired and it's been very eventful.”

“Yes... that sounds good. I will join you,” Michael replied. “Mom, don't stay up too late.”

Grandma just smiled and replied, “I won't.”

Meanwhile, in Jacob's room, the girls undressed, making Jacob nervous again. Seeing them naked... and not shy about it in the least... left him flustered.

“Must you do that?” Jacob asked.

“Well of course. It helps our bond and cultivation,” Sophie replied.

“And besides, it's also very comfortable. Now strip, husband,” said Sarah.

Jacob sighed. “Fine... but let's not do anything yet. We’re not publicly married, and we’re still not ready to be taking the risk.”

  “Fine,” they said with disappointment.

Jacob undressed, still shy about it. When it came to desires of the flesh, Jacob wasn’t as interested as most guys his age. He climbed into bed, and the girls followed. They lay in their usual way—each with a head on his shoulder and a hand on his chest.

They could hear the ocean waves crashing outside. The rhythmic sound lulled them to sleep. They slept peacefully through the night.

The next morning they woke up to the smell of breakfast. Sarah sat up and kissed Jacob, then Sophie.

“Good morning, Sarah,” they both said.

Sarah replied, “Good morning... did you have good dreams?”

Sophie smiled. “The best dreams, and it hasn’t ended yet. I never want it to.”

“That's nice... but I was mostly asking Jacob,” Sarah giggled.

Jacob, a little shocked, said, “Huh... why's that?”

Sarah pointed down. “Well, you have a soldier at attention down there.”

Sophie looked down almost too excitedly. “Really?”

As she saw his manhood standing at attention, she blushed heavily. “Are you sure about what you said last night?” she asked with a smile.

She stretched up to kiss Jacob and implied more with her tone. Jacob only kissed her back, then rolled away and covered himself. He stood and went to the bathroom to take a shower.

Sophie jumped up and ran to join him, but before she could get there, he closed the door and... click... it locked.

Sarah and Sophie were disappointed. They felt Jacob’s disappointment too, and they felt bad. So they decided the best way to make up for it was to help make the best breakfast.

Downstairs, the aroma of breakfast was already drifting through the air—bacon, eggs, maybe even cinnamon rolls.

Sarah glanced at Sophie. “Okay… we owe him. We were kind of mean.”

Sophie nodded quickly, already tying her hair back. “Yeah. That was way too much teasing. He’s always so respectful... he didn’t deserve that.”

They slipped into the kitchen and found Grandma had already prepped a few things on the counter but hadn’t started cooking yet.

“Hey Grandma,” Sophie said, easing in beside her. “Can we take over breakfast today?”

Grandma arched an eyebrow, clearly surprised. “You want to cook?”

Sarah added quickly, “We kind of feel bad. We teased Jacob this morning and... we want to make it up to him.”

Grandma smirked knowingly. “Ah. So this is a peace offering.”

  Sophie blushed. “Kind of…”

“Well, alright then. The stove’s yours. Just don’t burn my house down,” Grandma said with a playful wave.

Sophie cracked the eggs with practiced care while Sarah got started on the bacon. They worked in quiet coordination, pouring extra focus into each step—flipping pancakes with perfect timing, arranging plates with little flourishes, even slicing strawberries to decorate the table.

“This has to be perfect,” Sophie muttered.

“It will be,” Sarah said, placing the final strip of bacon like it was a ceremonial offering.

They set everything on the table with pride just as they heard the upstairs bathroom door open.

  Sophie whispered, “Okay... be cool.”

  Sarah nodded. “Cool. Totally cool.”

They both tried not to look too eager... but their eyes still flicked toward the stairs, waiting for Jacob’s reaction.

Jacob arrived in the kitchen with a solemn look and didn’t say a word. He just sat at the table and waited for the food to be served. Sophie was the first to bring food to the table. She just set the plates down and went back. She didn’t speak—just did her best to try.

Then they both started to bring over plate after plate until the table was full. They sat at the table and together they dished up a plate for Jacob. Still not saying a word, they set the plate in front of him.

Grandma walked over and said, “Oh Jacob, I didn’t hear you come down. Good morning.”

  “Good morning, Grandma,” he replied.

“Did you have a good sleep?” she asked.

“Yes. It was restful,” Jacob answered.

“Is everything okay? You seem rather quiet and short,” Grandma said, concerned.

“I’m fine. I’m not really hungry. I’m gonna go lay down,” Jacob said.

He got up and walked away. He left the house and walked down the beach.

Grandma looked at the girls. “What did you girls do to get him so upset? I don’t think I’ve ever seen him like this.”

“Well… we may have tried to push him to do something that he said he wasn’t willing to do yet,” Sarah said.

“What could it have possibly been?” Grandma asked.

“Well,” Sophie said with a blush, “we tried to… have marital relations with him.”

At that second, Michael and Lisa walked in and paused. Sophie saw this and turned as red as an apple.

“Oh my, I’m so sorry Mom and Dad. I’m sure you didn’t want to hear that,” Sophie cried.

Lisa, shocked, said, “Honey, don’t feel bad about it. What happens between a man and wife—or in this case, wives—is not the business of the parents.”

  “That’s right,” Michael added.

Still very embarrassed, Sophie got up and ran to the door to chase Jacob. Just as she was exiting, Jacob was coming in and she crashed into him hard, knocking him to the ground.

Realizing what happened, she started to cry heavily.

Jacob held her and then finally spoke. “You know this is how we met,” he said with a smile.

Sophie was crying so hard it soaked Jacob’s shirt. He stood and helped her up.

“I may have been a little too hard on you both. I was upset, but that’s why I needed to take a walk and think. I love you both, and I shouldn’t have pushed you away like that. But please… next time, when it comes to that, let’s just wait,” Jacob said.

This was the first time Jacob had said it out loud—and now both Sophie and Sarah were crying. Jacob pulled them both in and held them tight. Even Grandma started to cry.

Jacob noticed and walked to her. “I’m sorry, Grandma. I didn’t mean to make you cry.”

“I’m crying in a good way,” Grandma said. “You’re showing your heart—and it’s wonderful to see. You are a good man, Jacob.”

“Thank you, Grandma. Now I’m going to go change my shirt and then come eat this delicious-looking food,” Jacob said joyfully.

Upstairs, as Jacob changed his shirt, Sophie and Sarah followed. Just then, both Jacob and Sarah’s phones chimed. It was an email:

Classes will resume Wednesday morning. Just avoid the northwest part of campus that is under repair. See you all in class in the morning.

“Well, I guess we’ll have to go back to college tomorrow,” Sarah said.

“You should call Mom and see if the high schools are open,” Jacob suggested.

“Yeah, okay,” Sophie said, pulling out her phone and dialing her mom.

Helen picked up right away. “I was just about to call you. I got an email—school is back in session. You go back tomorrow.”
