Chapter 5: Shattered dreams

So as it turns out, I am some sort of spirit host or something like that, talk about favoritism. I was kind of expecting to have some sort of blessing for being a reincarnation, but from everyone's reaction to the news, it seems like my power is bound to grow to unrechable heights.

Everyone in the village looks at me differently, and most people usually want to hug me or tap my head wherever I go. Some of them even gave me pieces of bread and beef jerky. I've been trying not to let it make my head too big, but it's harder said than done.

My father is still trying to find ways to delay my departure to the Academy, and while I do understand him, I just don't see why he would be so hesitant to let this fantastic opportunity go. The chief seems to think the Academy will make me reach my full magical potential, and the village is paying for it! Why would he say no?

I suppose I still look around age six, but if I am old enough to work in the fields, am I not old enough to study in a far-away land too? I mean, the chief said that the gods are with me, according to the tale, that's what the red aura and blue eyes mean.

Ehehe! It sounds like a cool set of powers! The power over creation and life itself, and destruction and death itself! I mean, how could I not be excited! You went too far, giving me this gift, god of Reincarnations! You've made it way too easy for me to become super strong!

Although I still don't like the smell of shit and piss everywhere I go. Not to mention the tasteless food I have to consume to survive, I mean, seriously, who thought that surrendering most of your harvest to the government and the church was a good idea!?

Back in my world, people were crying over taxes as high as 30%, but in this one, it's more like 80% to the estate and 10% to the church, which leaves you with just 10% of all you make! That's a highway robbery! I literally don't understand why the estate needs so much grain for!

If I were my parents, I would complain about it; it just isn't fair at all. We put the work in the fields, we farm it and take care of it, so why does the estate need to take most of our food away! It makes no sense! In any case, now that I will be heading to the city to study, I won't have to worry about it, but it's just not fair!

In any case, what matters now is awakening the strenght inside me as the chief said last time we went to see him. The chief told me to prepare for a live demonstration for next week's upcoming council meeting, where he will propose my sponsorship to the village, which I doubt will go south for me.

Most people already seem to be on board with the idea, which just leaves my father on the line. Speaking of the devil, my dad hasn't really said anything about it in the past few days, and now barely even talks to my mother, which I do find weird. Is he really that worried about me?

"How did work go today?" Mom suddenly asks while we are all eating porridge at the table. Dad doesn't say a word and just keeps eating in silence, forcing us to answer for both of us so Mom wouldn't feel insulted. "It was good just like any other day!" I respond to my mom, who can feel the stress over my father worrying her more.

"And uh, how's your training going? Do you feel the path of the gods yet?" Mom asks me directly while hesitating to eat her soup any further. "Kind of, I still barely feel anything aside from some heat. I need more practice, that's all." I try to sound positive as the conversation goes on with my mother until Dad finally manages to speak out.

"You're wasting your time training, boy, because you're not going anywhere." My father says a totally negative thing right off the vat taking me by surprise I mean what a douche! "What do you mean I am not going?" I ask my father in the most respectful tone I can muster, but even so, it still lands me in a slap to the face, followed by a reprimand.

"I meant what I said, now eat what's left and go to bed, we are working early tomorrow," Father says in a cold, heartless tone that sends shivers down my spine, yet even so, I find the courage to argue back. "But the chief said the village won't say no to my spon! UGH!"

I don't even get to finish my sentence before Dad just chooses to escalate further, this time going as far as to punch me right in the chest, sending me to the ground right away, leading to my mom to jump out of her seat to soothe me. "He can say what he wants, but you're not going anywhere if I don't want to. You're still young, weak, and naive, you're not ready to face off against humans!"

Dad proclaims as if he knows everything about me, almost making it sound like I don't know how the world works, which I would be willing to comprehend if only he'd let me explain why I think I am capable of the task at hand. "So what? Do you just want me to stay home and be a farmer? UUHHG! AHHHH!"

Goddamn my dad was so fucking strong! I was practically done after his next two moves, which finally sent me flying out of the house, leading to a crying mom begging my dad to stop beating me. "You can't even defend yourself against me, and yet you want to dwell among the humans! How are you going to do that, being that weak? Uh!? Maybe I should just disable you so you never leave!"

"You'd rather disable me than let me go be better? I thought you loved me, not hate! UGH! AHHHH AHHGGG!" Dad is incredibly ruthless once he manages to make his way toward me, pushing my head against the ground with his left foot while my mother clings to him, crying, begging for him to stop.

"Shut up already, you're nowhere near ready to leave, the humans will try to kill you at every chance they get, I just don't want you to die at their hands that's why I must cripple you!" Dad keeps going on with that phrase, finally forcing me to take action as he was seriously about to crush my skull if he kept going.

"Get off me! UHGGG! I said Get off!" Once I am finally heated and angry at my father, it only takes a couple of seconds before the red glow returns, along with the strength necessary to forcefully remove my father's foot from my head. "Well, if that's how you want it! So be it! I am sorry for this!"

Dad scares me as he says this, finally going in for the kill. All while I have barely any control over my own power, my father goes in for a devastating hit on my legs as he quickly steps on my left leg with all his might. "AHHHHH!! AHHHHHG!! What are you doing!?" I yell as he finally pushes on forward, shattering the bones inside my leg, leading to an indescribable amount of pain.

"I am saving your life, don't make it harder than it should be." Father tells me this as if it were easy to dismiss, all while heading for my right leg as the commotion finally wakes up the entire neighborhood. "Don't! Wait! Don't! DAD! Dad, do! Wait! AHHHHHHHH!!! AHHHHHG!!!!!!!" The pain from my second leg shattering is all too much for my mind, finally leading to my unconsciousness as I could not handle the pain anymore.
