Chapter 9: Desperate Measures

  Day 3

  I was sitting on the floor. Since I was underground I didn't know how much time passed.

  I could hear laughter coming from upstairs, before I heard foot steps going down the stairs.

  There were a few others awake as well. But they were too broken to notice anything.

  I was able to pull myself back together fortunately. Though I wasn't given much of a choice.

  While I was in despair thinking about how I was doomed to a horrible fate. I was still alive, I could still think, time still moved on.

  No matter how far into despair I fell. No matter how bad I felt, I was still able to think. A part of my mind was still desperately looking for hope.

  One thought rang inside my head while I was wallowing in despair last night.

  'As long as you can think, you can't stop. You need to find a way until you break completely. Until your unable to form thoughts. As long as you have a mind to think, there is hope'

  Slowly throughout the night, my mind slowly dragged its way, away from despair and into composure.

  My fear didn't go away. it subsided for a bit. I know I will likely have to fight back to not crumble again.

  "We have many to choose from, take your pick" Said the man

  "Thank you Igor." Said the customer.

  'So the slave trader is called Igor' I made note to remember that.

  "I'm looking for one of the new humans people have been talking about" Said the customer

  "Ah, I see. Follow me then. I'll take you right where I've stored them" Said Igor

  They made their way towards the cage I was at.

  Stopping right infront of the cage, Igor exclaimed "the ones on the front are the ones from yesterday, choose whichever you like!"

  Examining us the customer said "I'm looking specifically for one that isn't completely broken. One that still has fighting spirit left in him. The people want to see how the new humans fight." His eyes stoped at me before saying "give me that one, the black haired, greened eyed one"

  Unlike before, I didn't feel anything from being chosen, I was determined to make it out. So even if I'm taken, I'll just have to start over and make a new plan. I can't let things that are unexpected or bad to throw me off anymore. I need to keep my composure to be able to make sound decisions.

  I made up my mind the moment I was chosen.

  I was hesitate to go through with my plan at first, many innocent people were going to die. But slowly, my emotions for them slowly faded.

  'They mean nothing to me. I don't know them, they don't know me. In this world, its killed or be killed. They wouldn't hesitate to kill me to save their own hide. And guess what, I won't either. The only person I need to look out for is myself. Feeling sorry for the people that will die mean nothing. If their are so desperate to live, they'll find a way to escape. And if they can't, well to bad'

  My mind stoped for a moment. I remember and old friend of mine I used to hang out with on Earth. I remember him telling me something before moving away.

  ' "it's a dog eat dog world out there Colt. You better toughen up, or you'll be the one getting eaten" ' I clench my fists.

  ' Even after he gave me that warning, I still ended up getting beaten down. The people I thought were my friends were only snakes'

  "Hey, stop spacing out and get out, your being sold" Said Igor

  The cage door was already opened. I was to busy thinking to myself to notice.

  I slowly walked out of the cage as everyone inside looked at me with eyes of pity and a hint of happiness, happiness at not being chosen as a slave.

  I was taken upstairs. When we got there we took a right and passed 3 doors until stopping at the fourth.

  Igor opened the door and let us in.

  Igor enter the room and closed the door when the customer and I entered the room.

  "So. I'm assuming you want him because you want him to fight In the Colosseum. " Said Igor smiling, his face animated but his eyes dead.

  Igor eyes seem to look through everything, as if nothing got passed him.

  "How much will it cost" the customer ignore his question and cut straight to the chase, asking how much I was worth.

  "50 sliver coins, I can't go any lower then that" Said Igor happily.

  "What! 50! That's insane. For this scrawy thing. Your scaming me!" Screamed the customer.

  "Oh but you see, he's special. He has certain skills that makes him stronger than the other new humans I have in stock."

  "And what that?!" Asked the customer. Half listening. He was ready for him to say some bullshit.

  "You see, he was Skills. Specifically 3. Numb body which lessens the damage of physical attacks. And then 2 passive skills, fire resistance and poison resistance." Said Igor coldly.

  The hair on my back stood up. I could feel as my skined crawled at hearing him say my skills.

  ' How does he know my skills.i thought I could only see my status window. Does he have some skill that's let's him see other people status?! ' It caught me off guard

  'But I don't understand? Why didn't he mention my other stuff in my status window' I thought

  Message: That's because I hid them. Your curse, your trait, everything except those three skills. I wanted to make you looked desirable so that you would be chosen.

  'You WHAT! You son of a bitch. Your trying to sabotage me aren't you. You just wanna see me suffer. You fucking bastard.' I thought angerly

  Message: Cool it dipshit. Your plan on burning the building wouldn't have worked without me, had they seen your immortality trait if I didn't hide it. You would have been a lab rat for some crazy fanatic.

  'You could have just hide everything. After the customer didn't want to buy me anymore, I could of burned the building and ran. I'm just bringing needless attention to myself by having them know my skills You think you're so smart, why didn't you think about how that when I escape, if they don't know I have skills, it will give me the advantage when fighting them.'

  The assistant stayed silent after that.

  ' Well, what's done is done. I can still preform my plan ' I thought exasperated

  "Hmmmm....fine I'll buy him" the customer said begrudgingly.

  "Excellent, I'll bring the slave mark right away" Said Igor and he skipped away leaving the room and closing the door.

  'NOW!'

  I jumped on the customer and grabbed his face and actived my self immolation skill. The only difference this time was that I only concentrated on burning a part of my body instead of my entire body.

  "AAAHH-" I covered his mouth to stifle his screams

  A sizzling sound could be heard as I cooked his face. Smoke from parts of his hair being burned started to fill the room.

  He thrashed around, punching me and kicking me over and over, but I refused to let go. I could feel the wind being knocked out of me as he punched my chest but he failed in making me let go of his face.

  Slowly his punches grew weaker. his thrashing less violent, until he died.

  'Alright, time to excute my plan' I thought

  I looked at my hands to see the skin melting.

  I clench my teeth 'I need to make sure when I use this skill, That I can still use my hands after this'
