Corruption and Light

In a desolate area surrounded by darkness and nothingness lay a light that was floating still. Though not noticeable, this light was growing larger and brighter. It reached a point at which a hand penetrated the ball of light, and out came something that resembled a man.

He was no mortal being; he was a newly born god. Though disoriented by his sudden gain of consciousness, he felt something in his chest urging him to use the vast amount of power inside of him.

This was the power of creation and destruction. 'I need to create a world,' the newborn god thought in his mind. Without wasting a single second, he got to work. A huge planet devoid of life appeared before him.

He felt something tugging at his mind; it was telling him to create a planet full of danger and cruelty. Resisting these thoughts, he got to work on building a planet full of peaceful creatures and a steady environment.

The more good he created for the planet, the stronger the voice in his mind told him to bring forth chaos and destruction. "Why?" He asked but didn't receive a response. Peaceful organisms were created, and a suitable atmosphere put everything in place: water, trees, a sun, and what truly held everything together... mana.

That's how he called it, a force that sustained the organisms without the need for them to nourish themselves with meat or plants. Survival was guaranteed, but all of his creations were granted free will, something highly unpredictable but restricted to not causing harm.

Just as he placed the finishing touches on his world, he felt the vast amount of power that he once held was reduced to barely nothing. This made him tired, and once he closed his eyes, he didn't wake up for a very long time.

His world kept evolving without him knowing; thousands of years had passed by the time the nameless god opened his eyes. When his consciousness was regained, a surprised expression formed on his face as he looked at the changes of his planet.

The organisms he had once created had evolved; he saw civilizations and the organization of various groups, which were now united and enjoyed life. No matter where he looked in his world, there was no fighting, no chaos; it was perfect.

A small smile tugged at his lips; it was quickly replaced by the hardening of his facial features as he felt something vastly superior to him entering his space. He looked everywhere; there was no sign of anything or anyone.

"So you are the new god?... Guess I got my hopes up for nothing." The nameless god looked behind him where he heard the voice. His eyes opened widely, and a shocked expression made its way up his face.

'What is this?!' He asked himself. He was looking at a huge eyeball encompassing the entirety of his vision. It was certain that this being had a physical body, but it was so huge that it couldn't be seen by him.

"I would have killed you once you materialized if I knew how big of a disappointment you were going to be." The voice was deep and powerful; it was making his mind go insane. Darkness started enveloping the interior of his body, replacing the light.

"What do you want?!" The nameless god desperately asked, feeling his body starting to burn. The being ignored the question and looked at the planet behind him. "Hoh, very intriguing, a god of chaos creating a world; now this is something I don't see very often."

The nameless god kept his silence, quietly assessing how to get out of this troublesome situation. The being then emanated a powerful aura that made his very essence scream in desperation, urging him to urgently flee.

"I'm starting to get mad; a god of chaos should fully embrace his energy." The nameless god felt something pulling at his chest. He desperately looked behind him and saw his planet being corrupted by chaos energy; there was nothing he could do about it with his depleted energy except helplessly watch the process unfold.

He looked back at the being and gritted his teeth with strength; a ferocious expression made its way to his face. Before anything could happen, a feminine voice penetrated the void. "Barglas, stop this madness once and for all; you can not kill newborn gods and keep getting away with it."

The nameless god felt an energy getting rid of the chaos inside his body; he finally didn't feel oppressed. Looking to his side, he saw a woman three times his size made entirely from a blinding light; he could only see her body superficially; her features and appearance were hidden for now.

The nameless god decided to keep his silence and let these powerful gods talk it out. "Aphni, why am I not surprised? Can you stop getting in the way for once in your meager existence?" The hostility emanating from his voice was clear; it sent shivers down his spine, but the goddess seemed to be unaffected.

"Listen to me, I will not tolerate this behavior any longer. The Kudhus clan and our forces are prepared to go to war if necessary. Think carefully about your actions if you want to keep existing."

There was a silence that filled the void. For a second, the nameless god thought that they were going to start fighting at any given moment. This didn't happen, however; the god known as Barglas began laughing uncontrollably. “Hahahahah!”

This laugh kept on going until it suddenly stopped, and a powerful aura released from Barglas’s body. "Do you really think that I'm scared of you? Remember your rank before trying to pick a fight with me and my army."

The nameless god could feel the body of the goddess by the name of Aphni begin to tense; it only relaxed after hearing the following words. "Fine, I will leave for now; I was starting to get bored anyways." With that being said, Barglas disappeared from view; the goddess stared at the nameless god without emotion.

"You're lucky to be alive right now; if I had arrived a little later, your essence would've been completely corrupted, and you would've ceased to exist.” He looked up at her. "Thanks for the help... Who was he?" he asked.

"His name is Barglas, the strongest god in our realm. What you saw right now wasn't his real body; it was only a low-level creation where he temporarily placed a tiny part of his essence.”

Aphni stopped talking; she placed her thoughts in order before looking at the planet behind her, being filled with chaos energy. "If you don't stop the spread of corruption or at least stabilize it, you will cease to exist along with your creation."

A frown fell upon the nameless god. "How do I eliminate the corruption?"

"There's only one way: you have to kill Barglas, a feat that is impossible for anyone in this realm; he’s just that powerful. I'm sorry, but you should focus on harvesting faith from your creations to increase your existence. Just keep in mind that this method is only temporary and will only delay your decay, not stop it."

He scowled out of frustration; the thought of being erased by this god was not something that he took lightly. Making up his mind, he thought, 'I will have to kill him; there's no other way, but how will I do that?'

Then the goddess added, "Just note that even if you become powerful enough to remove the corruption yourself, it will be impossible. Barglas possesses a powerful cursed ability that ties the corruption to him. The only way to get rid of it is to kill him.

The goddess looked at the silent god deep in thought and swiftly left his space. By the time he regained awareness of his surroundings, he took notice of the absence of a certain someone.

"Thank you," he said one last time before looking at his planet, which was starting to increase in corruption. ”It’s time to fix this problem.”
