Chapter 5: Molotov Cocktail

I repeated the same tactic I did when attempting to scavenge for resources. I put out most of my blockades other than the wardrobe directly blocking my door, and then I jumped into the empty alternate dimension before taking the wardrobe out and leaving my room.

I quickly moved to my neighboring room on my right. I do remember that, unlike my neighboring room on the left, the one on the right has someone staying on it.

And just like I expect, I found the door to that room opened. Quickly, I entered and went straight to the bedroom. Unlike the room where I got the generator which seemed to be resided by an otaku, this one looked neat. There wasn't anything identifiable that would tell me what kind of person resided here. The fridge was left wide open, and a cursory glance to the kitchen showed me that the place looked as if it was raided by thieves.

The bedroom looked a bit messier when I entered it. The door was already wide open when I got here. The sheets of the bed were on the floor, and the cabinets and the wardrobes were wide open. Scattered on the floor were clothes, a digital clock, and a half-filled roller bag on top of the bed. I quickly check it out, taking out the clothes. It only ended as a disappointment a minute later after I discovered it only had clothes, pants, and a branded watch inside it.

Well, I found a cool-looking lighter that has a silver coloring on it, so I pocketed it. It will be useful for starting fires.

After that, I looked around the room, and did not see what I was looking for, I didn't linger and leave the bedroom. I tried checking the open fridge in the dining room, and noticing the foul smell of the rotten vegetables inside it, I quickly left it alone. I made a cursory check with my flashlight, and didn't see any glass bottles there so that was fine.

Next, I go straight to the kitchen. I checked all the pantries quickly. Just like the other rooms, this one doesn't contain anything that I have been looking for.

  "... Oh, this looks good!"

But I did find canned tuna. I checked the expiration date and saw that it still had a year of shelf life before it got spoiled. I put it in my empty backpack before leaving this room.

I tried the next apartment room, and after verifying that it was unlocked, I jumped back to my starting point in the original world. I did this because I've already spent half of my mana raiding that neighboring room to my right. That was more than three minutes. I needed to rest at least twenty minutes before I fully recovered.

I put the canned tuna in my pantry first, and then the lighter on my dining table, before taking a short rest and waiting for my recovery. While waiting, I started throwing knives and hoping for some kills. Sadly, I didn't feel any addition to my mana when I recovered fully.

Whatever. It doesn't matter. I can just kill more monsters when I finally make my own Molotov!

My second attempt is a failure, so does my third attempt. At my fourth attempt, I found a room that has something useful in it. It's a golf club!

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

It looks sturdy, and a few swings makes me a bit confident about its strength. The handle of a broom might be a good alternative for a mid-range weapon, but I prefer something that has a bit more oomph in it. I keep lamenting not having baseball bats in my room, but with this golf club, I think I can fight zombies even face-on!

Of course, I quickly curb that thought out of my mind as I recall about those giant flesh lizards and muscular zombies. I think I might be able to deal with zombies, but those two creatures are impossible for me!

I have to remind myself that survival is the priority, not some false sense of bravado that I can deal with just because I have a long metal stick!

It's still reassuring that I have something I can use to protect myself if things suddenly turn for the worse. It can be my last resort or something.

Anyway, after that fourth attempt, my fifth attempt starts with me going to the neighboring rooms on the left side once more. I ignored the two rooms nearest me and went to the next room. The next room was unlocked, but like the other rooms, it doesn't have anything useful for me. My fifth, sixth, and seventh attempts also ended up with nothing.

It was my eighth attempt when I found what I was looking for!

  "This is it!"

Ten rooms away from my own, I found a wine bottle hidden beneath a bed. I took it with me before immediately jumping back to my starting point.

First of all, I took a rest until I recovered fully. After that, I started duplicating the wine bottle. I separated one wine bottle alone so I can duplicate it later for my leisure. As for the other batch, I've already thrown its contents out from my window and cleaned it up with water from one of my countless water bottles before filling half of it with generator oil.

I remember that making makeshift Molotovs doesn't need it to be filled with oil. It has something to do with needing enough air inside it or something, or maybe I'm just remembering it wrong?

Regardless, I made it until it was half-filled with generator oil. After that, I took some clean kerchiefs that I've duplicated along with the bottles and then shoved them on the bottles, leaving a fourth of the fabric hanging on the mouth of the bottles.

Now, I have a makeshift molotov cocktail done!

  Next is testing.

I won't know if it works until I test it!

So I duplicated it until there are ten of them, before grabbing one and then, using a duplicated lighter that I have, lighting the tip of the exposed fabric on the mouth of the bottle. After waiting for it to be sufficiently lit up, I stretched my arm outside the window, and then loosened my hold on the wine bottle.

I only heard a subtle noise of glass breaking before a cacophony of weak moans reached my ears. I stuck my head out of the window and looked below, and saw a small patch of flickering orange along with small groups of humanoid entities gathering at it. I immediately pointed my phone, and opened my camera app on it before zooming at that side. What I saw made me gasped in amazement.

  "Wow..."

Those horrifying, walking corpses gathering on that point are burning. One of them was bathed in flames from head to toe, while others simply moaned as the ground they stood on was burning. It didn't take long before smoke covered my view on that side, and a faint scent of cooked meat graced my nose.

"... Eugh..." I immediately pulled away from looking at that carnage, and pinched my nose.

Still, this is great! I succeeded in making a Molotov cocktail!

The range felt a bit smaller, but it doesn't matter. If it was weaker, I'll just add more oil to further widen its area of effect.

  "Ooooh!"

Just in time while I'm thinking about that, I felt a surge of warmth entering my body continuously. It was the usual sensation of my mana increasing, but this time it felt like a faucet being poured on a tub.

  "Amazing...!"

If I keep throwing molotov and burning zombies out there, then I can grind mana much faster. I'll just camp here and get all the rewards with the least effort!

  "Hehehehe....!"

The worries filling my head is finally gone. Now I feel at ease even if those flesh mountains keep spreading. If they come to my side, I will keep burning them until they give up!

No one can enter my sanctuary!
