Chapter 20: The Demon King’s Dad is Staying?! (Part 2)7:00 AM – The Worst Morning of My LifeI woke up in my employee dorm.
Opened my eyes.
Saw Baalzaroth standing at the foot of my bed.
Staring.
Not blinking.
Just staring.
I screamed.
Kenji screamed.
Melodia didn’t scream. She just threw a knife at him.
It bounced off his chest muscles like a toy.
Baalzaroth nodded. “Good reflexes.”
Melodia frowned. “Damn.”
I clutched my bnket. “WHY ARE YOU IN OUR ROOM?!”
Baalzaroth crossed his arms. “A ruler must always observe his subjects.”
Kenji sat up. “Bro, we’re not your subjects. We’re minimum-wage employees.”
Baalzaroth raised an eyebrow. “Minimum… wage?”
I sighed. Oh no.
7:05 AM – The Concept of Sary Breaks a Demon’s BrainWe tried expining saries to him.
It went like this:
Me: “So, we work. Then we get money.”Baalzaroth: “Why not just take money by force?”Me: “Because that’s illegal.”Baalzaroth: “Laws are for the weak.”Kenji: “Bro, that’s exactly what a rich CEO would say.”Baalzaroth: “I like this ‘CEO.’ Is he a warlord?”Me: “…Basically.”Baalzaroth nodded. “Very well. I shall become a CEO.”
Kenji gasped. “BRO. WE JUST CREATED A DEMON CAPITALIST.”
I groaned. This was getting worse.
8:00 AM – First Day of Work (God Help Us)Since Baalzaroth was staying for a week, the Demon King gave him a job.
As what?
A HOTEL MANAGER.
I nearly fainted.
Kenji ughed. “BRO. WE WORK FOR HIM NOW.”
Melodia sharpened her knives. “If we ‘accidentally’ kill him, do we still get paid?”
The Demon King paled. “Do NOT kill my dad.”
Melodia sighed. “Tsk. Fine.”
8:30 AM – The First Guest ArrivesA noble vampire lord entered the hotel.
“Ah, what a fine establishment. I shall stay in your finest room.”
Baalzaroth grinned.
Then he picked up the vampire… and THREW HIM OUT THE WINDOW.
The Demon King screamed, “DAD, NO!”
Baalzaroth turned. “Son. You must rule with POWER.”
Kenji whispered, “BRO. HE’S A TERRIBLE MANAGER.”
I sighed. Yeah. No kidding.
9:00 AM – Employee Meeting (aka, A Disaster)The Demon King called a staff meeting.
Baalzaroth sat at the head of the table.
Kenji raised his hand. “Question. Can we quit?”
Baalzaroth gred. “No.”
Kenji put his hand down. “Okay. Just checking.”
The Demon King groaned. “Dad. You can’t just throw guests out.”
Baalzaroth scoffed. “Why not? They were weak.”
Melodia crossed her arms. “Okay, but weak people pay for rooms.”
Baalzaroth paused. “…They do?”
I sighed. “Yes. That’s how businesses work.”
Baalzaroth nodded. “Interesting. So money is power?”
Kenji gasped. “BRO. HE’S LEARNING CAPITALISM.”
The Demon King looked at me. “Fix this.”
I rubbed my temples. Why me?
10:00 AM – ‘Training’ the Demon EmperorI took a deep breath.
Then expined how hotels work to the Demon King’s 8-foot-tall, world-destroying father.
“Rule #1: We do NOT kill guests.”“Rule #2: We do NOT throw guests.”“Rule #3: We do NOT threaten guests.”Baalzaroth sighed. “You mortals have too many rules.”
Kenji patted my shoulder. “Bro. You’re so brave.”
Melodia sipped coffee. “I give Rento five minutes before he snaps.”
I clenched my fists. She was probably right.
12:00 PM – Lunch Break (aka, More Chaos)We sat in the break room.
Baalzaroth frowned at his pte. “What is this?”
Kenji smiled. “It’s called a burger.”
Baalzaroth took a bite.
Paused.
Then nodded. “…Acceptable.”
Kenji gasped. “BRO. WE’RE CONVERTING HIM TO FAST FOOD.”
Melodia smirked. “Maybe we can make him a normal person.”
Baalzaroth suddenly stood up.
“I SHALL BUILD A BURGER EMPIRE.”
I dropped my drink. “Wait, WHAT?”
Kenji grinned. “BRO. LET’S GOOOOO.”
The Demon King facepalmed. “This is NOT what I wanted.”
Melodia sighed. “Well. At least he’s not destroying things.”
I shook my head. This was getting out of control.
2:00 PM – The Demon King vs. The Demon DadThe Demon King finally snapped.
“DAD. You’re embarrassing me.”
Baalzaroth grinned. “Good. That’s a father’s job.”
Kenji whispered, “Bro. This is just like when my dad found my anime collection.”
I ignored him.
The Demon King sighed.
“Listen. I run this hotel because I WANT TO. I don’t care about world domination.”
Baalzaroth stared.
Then smirked. “Very well.”
Kenji blinked. “Wait. That’s it?”
Baalzaroth nodded. “If this is your path, then so be it.”
The Demon King gasped. “You… you accept it?”
Baalzaroth grinned.
“No. I will challenge you.”
We all froze.
The Demon King paled. “…What?”
Baalzaroth’s eyes glowed. “A test of power. If you win, I shall accept your hotel. If you lose… you shall rule the world.”
I stood up. “OKAY, TIME OUT.”
Kenji gasped. “BRO. BOSS BATTLE.”
Melodia grabbed her knives. “This should be fun.”
The Demon King groaned. “I hate my life.”
I sighed. Me too.
