By the year 1990, several things had become abundantly clear to the world. Moving onto the lunar surface was a costly affair, but one that also had the potential to generate unlimited income. The lunar habitat had suffered numerous setbacks and failures. At the same time, the researchers had discovered valuable minerals not only on the surface of the moon but buried within its many craters as well.
That, in turn, led them to explore any and all nearby asteroids, and what they discovered astonished them. It had long been said that all the gold on Earth came from space, and while that may or may not be true, at least one asteroid did contain an extreme amount of the valuable material.
This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.
A new gold rush enveloped the world, on top of the space and lunar fever they were already afflicted with.
Meanwhile, down below, Meredith Koarden and David had begun to quietly work on their own projects. Space was nice, but it held little interest in them. Technology, on the other hand, did.
They looked to past top-secret projects and the innovations that had come from them before settling on one called Project Hierophant. It had been mothballed fifty years earlier, and then deconstructed in a show of stupidity, at least in their opinions.
So much of what the project had been doing had been ahead of its time. Still was in many ways, though a lot of it had also gradually crept into mainstream production.
Meredith used her family’s company to gain access to the full restricted plans, and after having David flown over to be with her. They got to work.
