163. The Right Place... (Book Two)

A few more meetings were held after that, as everyone in two Cities got ready for the expedition that about to take place.

Personnel was quickly decided upon and after discussing everything, it was decided that a decent number of people from both Cities would be joining the force. In total, from both Cities, a couple of hundred extra people were added to the force.

Of course, that wasn’t to include myself, the boys, or the Ash Guard. Instead, it was a few adventurers who volunteered, like Irene for example. I hadn’t spoken to her since I’ve returned and I’m pretty sure she’s upset about it, but anyway along with her came a few members of the City Guard.

Honestly I think they were all a bit out of their scope in what would likely be a dreadful battle at some point, but some help was better than no help, and there was also the opportunity for them to gain more invaluable experience in fighting a war.

Those who survived would hopefully come out stronger on the other end.

  Hopefully.

Anyway, there were a couple of other Mavelia Transport Stations in the City, but we were not able to travel to the other side. So, all we could do is speculate on the condition of those Cities. It was good that the lone Dwarf who was in the City had returned before all of this took place.

Eventually everything was finalized, from resources to aid in healing and recovery, to weapons to aid in killing and destruction. It was all gathered and stored properly.

Now just over 10,000 people had suddenly found themselves no longer on the ground, but instead in a few of thew ships that floated over the City.

It took some time, but eventually a few of the Infernals who were sent to investigate the ships came back with news that only they were safe for use, but they had also figured out how to use them.

Or at least how to use them well enough to safely fly and land one of them. I’m sure the ships have a plethora of capabilities that we don’t have time to figure out their exact use.

Anyway, the ships were massive, and it only took two of them to fit all of us comfortably. After that, the goal was quite simple. Fly around until we find more signs of Vamps. We had no nothing else to go off other than the fact there was a place on the Planet that the Vamps were kicking off this sacrifice at.

Both ships started out flying side by side for a few feet before spreading out decently far from each other. Far enough that I couldn’t see the other ship from the deck I now stood on.

But the ship was still in range of the communication devices we received from the Mavelia guys quite a while back.

If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, be aware that it has been stolen from Royal Road. Please report it.

And so were off and flying. There was no big take off or any sort of major feeling that could be felt as the ship started moving. In fact it quite literally felt as if we were standing still in a building on the ground.

  It was neat.

After taking a moment to appreciate the feeling a bit, I retired to the seat I was given and closed my eyes to focus on cultivating.

Form my Qi into a ball…It was quite easy to do this part, in fact everyone at the peak of Qi Refinement should be able to do this part. The challenge began when it was time to harden it.

Not only would one have to focus on keeping the shape of the ball without even a small blemish forming, but you would also then have to fundamentally change the nature of your Qi by making it hard.

It was one thing to make it solid, but it was a whole other thing to make it truly hard. Hard enough to become a foundation for all of the ensuing compressions one would be able to apply to it.

So while I could form the ball, making it hard was still a challenge and it was one I didn’t plan on rushing.

Having a core brought many benefits that someone in the Qi Refinement Realm would never be able to experience, but it also formed something of a clear weakness in a cultivator.

A cultivator didn’t lose their meridians, but everything that made up who you were as a Core Formation cultivator was quite literally the existence of that Core.

Destroy it, and you would essentially be crippled for life never being able to reach that realm again, and even existing with Qi Refinement itself would become nothing short of a struggle.

So it is vital to form a truly strong Core, or at least as strong as you possibly could.

And while I focused on that…time passed seemingly in a blink.

One second I was knee deep in meditation trying to harden my ball of Qi, then the next second shouts of alarm was coming form almost everyone currently standing in the bridge of the ship.

I opened my eyes and walked to the front to give myself a better view and once I laid eyes on the view in front of me, I understood their alarm.

In fact, perhaps if being weirdly calm in all sorts of situations wasn’t ingrained into my very being then I probably would have done the same.

We were currently above the ocean just outside of a massive landmass, likely another continent.

But the continent was weird or at least the part of the continent we were looking at was weird, it seemed to be covered in a very thick and almost glaringly unnatural amount of black clouds, and due to their presence, everything underneath it was in a perpetual state of darkness.

And that wasn’t to say there wasn’t any light at all. I had no doubt in my mind that we would be able to walk around just fine, but I couldn’t at least from my current position identify the source of whatever minuscule amount of light existed there. It was like it was night time, but there was no moon.

Anyway, while that was weird and all, it wasn’t the main cause of concern.

That position was reserved for what we saw below the clouds and above the land.

The number of ships and bodies we saw calmly flying outside of those same ships was enough to make the sight we saw above Black Cove City look childish.

In fact childish might not even be the word. I just don’t think I know one good enough to compare the two. There had to be millions of Nascent Soul Vamps out there. Millions.

We didn’t even have 100, yet there were millions in front of me?

If this wasn’t anything sort of a suicide mission then I don’t know what was.

A few moments later the other ship could be seen heading towards us.

No matter how much I thought about how to survive making our way onto the continent, not a single plan that didn’t end with us dying in darkness and blood could be formed.

  It just didn’t make sense.

  ALERT ALERT ALERT

TIME TILL SACRIFCE IS COMPLETED: 24:59:58

Well at least now we knew for sure that we were in the right place.
