Jenkins maintained a high level of alertness and as he slowly readjusted his breathing, he noticed the silhouette of the intruder coming into view. The intruder approached the bed, hands on the blanket. Jenkins closely observing the hands of the intruder. He did not see any weapons and just as he was about to get out of the wardrobe the sound of the door opening again put him back on alert. He was able to hear one of the two parties talking and it wasn’t the kind he wanted to get involve in right from the get-go.
“Well. That complicates our mission. Talk about being at the right place at the wrong time….”
Jenkins recognize that voice as it belonged to the maid that escorted him to his chamber from earlier. However, the next voice wasn’t familiar to him.
“W-who are you? Wait you’re the castle maid! Why are there four knights behind you? What are you talking about?”
The next part coming from the maid raised a red flag for Jenkins.
“Man. I really hate getting my hand dirty with Maiden blood, but a job is a job. Alright boys restrain her and make her outfit messy. I’ll deal with the hero….”
Jenkins noticing the tone change coming from the maid knew something is off and prepared his combat form. There were scuffling footsteps followed by a brief commotion as the maiden attempted to run but she was overpowered and quickly subdued by the four knights.
“Let me go! If the church or the King hears of this-…”
The maid scoffed and quickly retorted back.
“Then why isn’t help coming by the noise you are causing?”
The maiden gasp as she realized the hint that the maid gave her.
“No…”
Jenkins taking that as his que to step in kicked the wardrobe door wide open, briefly stunning the maid and her accomplices. While his right arm was pointing at head height, fired off his M1911 at the knights in rapid succession. The four knights were immediately killed as the bullets penetrated into their brains causing some blood to fly out in all directions. As their body laid lifelessly on the floor, blood continued to leek out from the small hole. Jenkins quickly took aim at the maid and fired to which the maid evaded. She vaulted to the other side of the bed, Jenkins timed his leading shot and fired the last two bullets in his magazine. As the maid gunned straight towards the window to make her escape, Jenkins saw that his shot hit her left arm and right chest. Not a fatal shot, but it’s a way for him to easily tell if he were to meet his target again. Once the maid shattered the window with her entire body, the castle bustled with commotion. From there Jenkins could guess that there were some false in her claims. Which he believed it to be the latter. However, nothing could be proven with absolute certainty therefore Jenkins decided to investigate the assassination attempt and the ‘Holy Maiden’ which happened to be at the right place but at the wrong time.

“A hit like this isn’t easy to pull off. There must be an insider helping them, but why me out of all the other heroes here.”
Jenkins muttered silently to himself, still baffled as to why he is the first one to be targeted. He thought about the malicious intent he felt from before and guessed that it could be related. But first thing first, Jenkins made his way to the ‘Holy Maiden’ to check her for any injuries.
Jenkins carefully looked at the place where the knights manhandled her. He saw that there were some bruises on her wrists and cheeks. There wasn’t anything too life threatening caused to her, but he patched the ‘Holy Maiden’ up since the damage were superficial.
After Jenkins completely patched the ‘Holy Maiden’ up he led her back to his bed. He urged her to sit and to rest after the brief hell she experienced. Jenkins sat down next to her and took the initiative.
“What’s your name and what is it that made you to come to my room?”
The ‘Holy Maiden’ got up and knelt down one leg in front of Jenkins, confusing him.
“I am the ‘Valkyrie Maiden’ of Freyja, Gunhild. I had received an oracle of your arrival and I am to be your guide. I originally planned to have us leave this castle unseen but the incident with the assassins will make it more difficult.”
Jenkins tiled his head sideways as he never heard of a ‘Valkyrie Maiden’ before. He originally thought that Gunhild was a ‘Holy Maiden’. He had a lot of question he wanted to ask but time is running short if Gunhild is here to retrieve him from the castle, then it means this country isn’t safe to linger around in any longer.
He looked at Gunhild and at the broken window.
“So, you say you are here to get me out of here. You got a destination?”
Jenkins spoke to Gunhild as he peeked out of the window and grinned at a crazy idea.
Gunhild looked at him and pointed at the horizon towards the West.
“The mountains where the Valkyries resides”
Jenkins gestured Gunhild to come over.
“Then come on. Let’s go!”
Jenkins decision to follow Gunhild would be marked as the first hero casualty in the war against the demons. The next day when it was announced to the public that a hero had perished under unnatural circumstance, Archbishop Havier expressed his deep sorrow at the loss of the soldier hero. However under his sorrowful expression lies a small subtle grin on his mouth.
