Prologue

AnnouncementWon't post that frequently, but I have been pnning it for a few years. So it'll be done, eventually.Shuir yawned as she set her give against the wall, she gave her shoulders a few stretches before leaning back.

Even for she who enjoyed her work, it was inevitable that boredom would reach. It was her turn to stand guard, waiting for time to pass as the crowd bought charms and prayed. Not everyone purchased a charm, just sincerely praying and offering faith was enough to receive a blessing but some people needed the extra boon.

Another yawn slipped out of her. She had no one to bme except for herself since she was the one who put it to a vote on how they should handle it.

Her only entertainment was eavesdropping since she knew how much attention her phone took from her, attention that could be making sure no one got hurt. It was a habit that stayed with her even after they had moved cities, it wasn't as handy now but drove away the monotony.

Shuir pushed her thoughts away as someone approached her. They held a rge briefcase in one hand while the other took out a card.

She scrutinized it to ensure it was legitimate before she gave a nod. They walked into the wall beside her, making a slight ripple on its surface as they passed through.

The reason why they had to pick among themselves who to sit at the shrine every day was because ordinary people weren't their only visitors and they had too few people for how much work they had to do.

A third yawn. She may need to start brewing coffee for herself if her mornings keep going like this.

She returned a wave from a frequent visitor. The boons that people get from praying weren't that widely universal nor do they wear off after a day, they would get weaker, yes, but it took at least a week before it wore off completely. But seeing how they were a student that seemed athletic, they prayed every day to ensure the effect was always at its peak.

That student soon ran off, likely to the Wind Shrine after their Earth Shrine. Praying would usually wind a normal person but someone fit should be able to handle it.

Not much else had happened until her phone set off from the timer, letting her know it was time for her break. She grabbed her weapon and waved over to some workers to call in people who were training. She only made her way off once she felt they had the area secured enough in her absence.

Shuir left the section for the public and entered the more private areas, it would take too long for her to make her own meal so she went to the cafeteria. She hadn't been able to do her pastime of restaurant hunting for quite a while, at least the local chefs they hired were well-versed in the area's cuisine.

Fusion is great but Shuir liked being able to taste the simple ingredients just as much as complex fvors blending together. She picked up a tray with today's menu.

She carried her food to the center building of the complex, the home for Gods and their direct servants. It was rather small, being one story and housing only six people.

Shuir slipped off the sandals for indoor slippers and made her way to her room... to find the door already open. She strolled over to the desk and began to eat, ignoring the pouty look of the woman who helped herself to the plentiful amount of pillows on the bed.

Letting out a sigh as she felt a tap on her shoulder, Shuir cut a small piece of today's dessert and fed it to her. She id back down with a content look and squeezed the body pillow harder.

Shuir turned her attention back to the tray.

"Do you pn on not speaking a word the entire day?"

She swallowed the food in her mouth. "Is there anyone to talk to?"

The woman got up and swatted Shuir's shoulder. The amount of force wasn't even a tickle to her but it got the dissatisfaction across.

"Did moving put all that shyness back? Don't write off everyone who isn't us."

Shuir looked away as she nibbled on a piece of lettuce.

The other sighed. "I know it takes time but they look up to you. They are doing their best and would be happy to be acknowledged."

"Un." Her head was still turned away.

The woman got up and gave Shuir a small hug before she left, closing the door behind her. It was a meaningless action since only the two of them were home but she appreciated it nonetheless.

Shuir took a few moments to reflect before she brought up her phone to watch something as she ate. Next time, she'll eat at the cafeteria instead of bringing it inside.

She took in more food before she continued to scroll for a video to watch, chewing as she satisfied her curiosity. She eventually settled on letting the recommendations take over as she focused on finishing.

What remained of her break after the food was reading up on local websites and social media. Another habit of hers was to look at the gossip and news people share, it had a bonus of occasionally finding problems beyond a normal person. Such problems usually get posted as a request for people who drop by their shrine to pick up, rger problems wouldn't be found through that kind of method.

  "Hm."

A particur post caught her attention, before she could follow up on it, a whistle reached her ears.

She grabbed her give and ran out of the building, tossing off her slippers and taking back the sandals with just her feet in the process.

Once she reached firmer ground, her already blinding pace quickened. Her attention focused on a masked person surrounded by armed guards.

Her figure flickered and she reappeared between them and the crowd.

"Please move aside," she warned. Not that it was of much use as her form fshed again and she had kicked the intruder away from the citizens before anyone could blink.

The first step was to secure the people's safety. The next step-

Shuir slowly strolled over to the intruder whose broken arm was covered in ice.

  -was to take them alive.

She set her weapon abze with a twirl and swiped a crescent of fire at them. They raised a wall of ice, an overreaction she wouldn't neglect.

Shuir flickered, to the wall she then kicked into pieces. Her eye tracked the person through the debris as their structure crashed into them. Her leg moved as if kicking a ball, a column of fire was set abze towards them.

The fire being too powerful to block, they scrambled out of the way as Shuir approached closer. Sharp shards of ice were sent to the crowd amidst their flustering.

'Typical,' Shuir thought as she drew on a bit of today's intake of faith. She swiped at the ground, a towering ring of fmes rose and separated them from the crowd. The temperature within the ring caused the ice to melt midflight.

That was faith that could have been used for better things. She sighed.

Shuir strolled over as they frantically tried to call on their ice. It was a poor match-up and too immense of a power gap.

She tossed her weapon into the air and subdued them with her fists. The mask had fallen off as they fell onto their back.

"...Shackles." Shuir ignored the smooth skin where a face should have been. Another job has come, this time for the shrine.

She grabbed the handcuffs that were thrown at her, their spiritual power would be significantly dampened with them on, nullifying those who were too weak.

The ring of fire extinguished as she stepped past it, the guards came over and picked them up.

"Good work." Shuir took her post again since she was already here.

They had a look of pride on their face as they saluted her, they carried the intruder to be imprisoned somewhere in the shrine.

She set her weapon against the wall and leaned back, her ears began to pick up the heightened gossip.

She could guess this incident would tempt more people to apply to their shrine. They were still establishing themselves so additions to their numbers were gdly welcomed. She just hoped that an apprentice would come soon so she had something to do during this boring period.
