Chapter 112: Cursed Weapon (2)

  Chapter 112: Cursed Weapon (2)

"Why do deadly things always find their way to me?" Xu Mo looked at the Threadspike Capsule resting on a small, soft rectangular cushion covered with velvet cloth. The cursed weapon radiated a strange attraction to anyone nearby. Xu Mo even felt silent whispers near his ear, telling him to take it—and that he would be granted the power he had always dreamed of.

Take it, and kill the Sect Master who dared to gift a cursed weapon to a disciple.

Take it, and wipe out the auction house and everyone who participated in the bidding.

A clear voice of a woman echoed inside his mind. He felt the chill spreading from his palm to his shoulder—but it wasn’t coldness. It was the sensation of that woman’s hands, trying to control him like a puppet.

"So, how is it? Can you handle it?" Bai Xu's voice rang out. Xu Mo looked up, his gaze unaffected by the cursed weapon’s looping messages, which tried to cloud his mind and seize his consciousness.

  Cute—

Xu Mo had a calm smirk on his face. Since the moment the Great Dao had sprinkled its blessings upon the beings of this region and he had awakened his own Dao, he had been plagued by constant headaches from strange sounds. Compared to those, the level at which this cursed weapon tried to infect him was so weak, he almost said "Cute" out loud.

"Why are you smiling? Has the curse already started affecting you?" Bai Xu asked, confused. Xu Mo's eyes remained clear, yet he was smiling—even as an unusual voice rang inside his ears.

Xu Mo shook his head and replied, "No. I was just thinking… if the curse can only talk like a ghost inside one’s brain, then why did the previous owners lose their minds? I don't believe myself to be someone particularly unique."

"Good observation. I expected nothing less from you. Always approach the unknown with humility," Bai Xu said with a proud glint in his eyes.

"But Sect Master, I have no idea how something like this is used," Xu Mo admitted, expressing his biggest concern—how to fight with something so small. Should he throw it? Strike at his opponent’s vision?

"I’ve already thought about that. Here," Bai Xu took a booklet from his robe. It didn’t look very old, but it was stained with blood and dirt. "This was written by its previous owner. It contains his experiences, insights, and how he managed to survive longer than all the others. It also explains how he used this weapon in combat."

Bai Xu glanced at him and continued, "And Xu Mo, you are different. This is just a gift I purchased for you. You are not obliged to use it—nor do I expect you to. It could endanger your life. Use whatever weapon you're comfortable with inside the secret realm. This one is only for times when you don’t wish to reveal yourself… when you want to act from the shadows. Remember what I told you from the start—this weapon matches your personality."

Xu Mo thought it made sense. Why else would the Sect Master gift him something so deadly on the first day of the New Year? Could he have been under the influence of the curse all along?

Bai Xu noticed Xu Mo’s thoughtful gaze and immediately understood his curiosity. "You want to know what the curse is, right?" Xu Mo nodded, and the Sect Master continued, "Not much is known about this weapon’s origin. Who made it, when, or why—none of that is clear. But what we do know is that the curse takes the form of a woman. We believe either someone trapped a woman’s spirit within it, or perhaps the creator herself was a female who was brutally killed—her resentment lingering within the Threadspike Capsule."

"Then… is this a weapon meant for women?" Xu Mo asked the next question.

"Not necessarily. In the past, this weapon has changed hands like clothing—some users were women, others were men. But we can’t rule out the possibility that male users die more often. Perhaps the curse, being female, is less hostile toward women."

"However," he added, "the power of this weapon cannot be denied. Every previous user who died, died at the hands of this weapon—not their opponents."

Xu Mo didn’t hear the latter part of the Sect Master’s sentence. He was already planning to give the cursed weapon away to some female if it turned out to be truly useless to him. He might even toss it into the secret realm—let fate decide. Perhaps it would be picked up by the one destined to wield it.

He could accept dying at the hands of someone powerful, but not by the weapon he used to protect himself. In that sense, this system and the cursed weapon were quite similar. Could they be husband and wife? Xu Mo joked inwardly.

[Host, please do not joke around and hurry up with the target investments.]

‘I already did. You're the one delaying my rewards,’ Xu Mo replied inwardly. This system was quite the liar. He had already done his part, yet now it refused to give him his double reward of a mere 50 low-grade crystals.

[Host, unless the invested target accepts your investment from their heart, you will not receive any rewards. And didn’t I give you hints, Host? You were supposed to offer something big. The first investment holds special meaning—you might’ve even received ten times the return.]

‘Now that you’re refusing to spit out my reward, I think I made the right call not trusting you,’ Xu Mo muttered internally, before turning his attention back to the Sect Master.

"I will use this weapon wisely. And please, Sect Master, open the gift only after I’ve left."

"Why? Planning to prank me?" Bai Xu raised a brow with a knowing smile. "Afraid you won’t have time to escape after I open it? Haha… I did the same thing to my master far too many times. I miss those days."

"No, no, Sect Master. I just… I feel shy when people open gifts I’ve given them in front of me. I have a fear of being judged," Xu Mo said, lowering his eyes slightly.

Giving a shout out to myself because no one else seems to be interested~ ( ̄┰ ̄*)
