I turned to my older sibling as our leader slumped to the ground,“Now never again shall we be ruled by a tyrant!” they roared to the rest of our tribe. It was supposed to be a triumphant moment, but all I could think about was our leader’s slow sorrowful expression and what they said, ‘This will not be the end.’“Are you good, sibling?” my now only sibling asked,“Is it truly over? Will we no longer have to live under any one?” I asked as I gestured to the battlefield dyed a horrible yellow.“Yes! When we cast their carcass into the desert we will finally be free!” I shook in horror at that statement,“You’re going to desecrate a god's body?!” I whispered,“You say that as though they wouldn't the same to us.”I slipped away from the celebration not long after. The blood from those who were lost in the fight stained my limbs as I sank into the water.
The next day my sibling found me resting on our too empty nest,“I’ve managed to have you be the one to take the tyrant’s carcass to the desert!” they said with energy,“Why?!” I asked, unable to hide the shock and horror even if I had wanted to,“You seemed upset so I gave you something important to do!” they replied as they pushed me out of the nest.As I got my legs under me I saw that the blood had spread far enough to tint the nearby silt a ghastly yellow. As I looked at it all I could think about my other siblings and all the others that were lost.“Can’t someone else do that?” I desperately asked,“Don’t worry about it! No one will fight against you disposing of the tyrant's carcass!”“Oh, okay,” I murmured unable to find it in me to resist,“Great! Let's go!”
I soon found myself standing amongst the pnts that lived between the swamps and the desert with only the body of our old leader as company. I didn’t want to take them into the desert, but my sibling had told me to do so. Unable to cross my sibling but unwilling to do what they asked, I tried to take a different path. Hoping my sibling won’t be too harsh I start digging in the soil.“Hey, what’s happening?” A voice asked, turning to face it I saw a small figure standing on two feet and only four limbs,“I’m very sorry!” I said quickly as I stopped what I was doing,“It’s fine,” they said, “I’m Kay I use he/him pronouns.”“What?! But- sorry for yelling and questioning you.”“You don’t have to apologise, and wha-” Kay stopped, his head bobbed side to side before continuing, “Okay, I probably should have checked the significance of the odd pronouns. If it helps, I am, currently, technically, not dead.”“Huh?”“What happened? What led you to this moment?”“My sibling stopped our leader,”“Why did they need to be… stopped?”“Because they could hurt us?”“And how is the power they wielded different from your siblings?”“I’m sorry! They weren’t bad! I’m sure they could have been worse, they said they could be worse.” I replied in a panic in the hopes that I would not be punished too badly,“I’m not going to punish you, you haven’t even done anything wrong.”“Sorry!”“Well, is there anything you want?”“No, sorry,” I lied wanting to stay out of trouble,“I have no intention of hurting you in any way,” Kay said, his words seemed sincere, I don’t know why but it was like he used more than words.“Okay,” I said carefully,“So, do you have any more info on what happened?”“My siblings said that our leader had too much power over us, they formed a group to fight them and then, and then… Oh… They’re dead, they're all dead.” I finished dumbly,“It’s fine, you can take your time. I’ve still got six years to wait.” Kay soothingly said,“Why does it matter? Why do you want to know?”“Your leader, they’re my kid. And while I disagree with some of the things they’ve done, like their tendency to be controlling, they are my kid. I am also to bme as I died before they were even a year old which caused them to run off.”“Why are you talking about him like he’s alive?” I asked as I tried to ignore the fact that almost everyone I knew was dead,“Oh, because I’m going to resurrect them and am currently trying to figure out how much I should restrain them afterwards.” “What?” I questioned because surely I misheard him,“It’s something I do for all my kids, offer resurrections. Anyway, do you want anything?”“I don’t know, I want things to go back to when they were simpler,” I slumped to the ground unsure what to do and hoping everything had just been a dream,“Time travel wouldn’t work, because while easier than your idea of making all this a dream, something would need to change.”“Huh?”“Is there a story you’d like to live in? Or a fantasy world?”“There is a story I like?” I slowly said, the story wasn’t actually the part I was thinking about. In the story there is a pce where everyone is kind, friendly and nice,“Oh… Well that’s problematic,”“Why?”“Ah, well… the story frames the neurodivergent people in there as, to simplify, lesser and while my kid didn’t knowingly encourage it… ‘I didn’t know’ and its variants excuse very little and I have lines, one of which is don’t be an oppressive dictator.” Limbs of all types extruded themselves from Kay’s back and the ground below him frothed and ignited.I was slowly backing away in terror when he suddenly stopped.“Uh, sorry about that, I have a rather personal grudge with oppressive dictators.” All his limbs went limp before continuing, “Ugh! There are so many things I could have done, I could’ve crossed my lines. But then what line to cross? Should I have sacrificed my existence or theirs? And even if I had, would there have been an after?”“What?” I asked still wary of him but no longer retreating,“It doesn’t matter, I'll get over it when I’m dying before my next life. So is there anything you would like to do before you go to a new home?”“Could I say bye to my st sibling? They are one of the nicer people I know.”“Sure, I’ll be nearby when you’re ready to leave.”As I left I noticed that both the hole I had been digging and our ex-leaders had vanished.
When I reentered the bog my sibling was waiting for me,“You seem much happier now!” They shouted,“I’m leaving,” I said before I even realised what they said,“Okay, but why?”“I don’t like it here.”“Really? I couldn’t tell.”“Goodbye,” I said before walking away. I spotted Kay in one of the few tall pnts and went over to him.“Are you ready to go?” He asked, with an unilluminated hemisphere behind him,“Yes,”“Then step through my portal and may all your worries and wear pass away.” Kay said as he gestured to the hemisphere.I hesitantly walked into it. On the other side I saw an endless swamp dotted with isnds of pnts. There were also people in the mud but there were no crowds and no one seemed to be incharge!“So what do you think?” Kay asked as he appeared next to me. It was amazing but I did have a question,“Ask away,” he answered,“What will happen to our ex-leader?““I’ll resurrect them in a new world and give them a second chance. But they won’t have the same power as before and will be under the scrutiny of the moral system I’m currently living under.”“Okay.”
