Chapter 1 : Babylon

The airship flies in the sky, on board is a woman with white hair and a white scientist's jacket, her eyes looking toward the horizon. Her eyes are heterochromatic, one violet and one red. She also wears gsses. Her white b coat is accompanied by a long blue turtleneck with a pendant.

She is writing something in her book; it had been a few days since they had taken off from Port Granger on the west coast of the empire.

The group's goal is very simple: find a cure for an epidemic ravaging the entire world. The group had been sent by the goddess of beauty to save the world; they had received a prophecy and deduced the probable location of the st ingredient to make the remedy.

A person comes behind the scientist and says to her:

"Dena, according to the map, we should be arriving soon."

The scientist turns and looks at the woman who had just joined her. She had recently turned 18; her name is Alba Lu, but her real name is Melita. Melita comes from Halkyone, a small continent where various diverse species are found, such as centaurs, nymphs, as well as gorgons—which is exactly what Melita was. Her white hair resembled snakes ready to bite their prey. She has beautiful red eyes, a bck scarf, and a kimono with red bindings matching the color of her eyes.

  "Indeed, we're approaching..."

Melita gives a small smile and strokes Dena's back.

"Three years traveling together, and I feel like I'll never be able to surprise you."

Dena doesn't respond and continues looking toward the horizon. Slowly, a rge isnd takes shape before her. The isnd was abandoned centuries ago, and all that remained was a ruined tower where Deyahu would reside.

Isnd 58, also nicknamed Deyahu's Isnd, is the residence of an ancient civilization that worshipped the 58th Deadhorse. The Deadhorses were titans who lived on this pnet and reigned supreme until they all ended up killing each other. The few survivors were defeated by a group of heroes who gained fragments of the fallen titans' powers.

However, each Deadhorse had chosen a human heir. The heir served as a repcement body, a pce where the spirit and a fragment of the Deadhorse's power resided. Deyahu had taken refuge on this isnd with the people who worshipped them.

But one day, in 1989, a coalition between the Empire, the Republic, and some independent countries reduced the isnd to ashes. The only survivor was Deyahu, who managed to repel the invaders but at a heavy price: the death of his entire civilization. Since then, the heir has been hiding on this isnd. He remains a very powerful threat.

Denasaia's group consisted of three people: herself, Melita, and Vasanta Hearts, a muscur man with long bck hair wearing a bck mask covering his mouth and nose. Each had awakened a different power: Melita could turn what she saw into stone, and Vasanta could control and create poison. Denasaia's power was simple: her intelligence had been multiplied tenfold. She was already considered very intelligent before her transformation, but now she had become a genius. She had designed her flying boat herself and was working tirelessly on creating a remedy.

The flying boat finally comes to nd at the foot of the tower, on the abandoned main road that served as the primary way to enter the tower.

  "Babylon..."

Vasanta, who had just exited the pilot's cockpit, joins Denasaia and, raising an eyebrow, asks:

"You seem to know this pce."

  Denasaia nods quickly.

"The Deadhorses all had different towers. Most of them are now underwater or on abandoned isnds like this one, or a thousand feet underground. These were their temples... The babylons."

Melita nods; she was impressed by the scientist's knowledge. Denasaia moves toward the entrance of the tower, inviting her group to follow.

The group enters the tower, which is immense and seems to reach the sky. It would be a long walk for the group, and not a peaceful one. Each floor of the tower teemed with ancient monsters that had taken refuge in the tower, remnants of the Deadhorse civilization.

Thanks to Vasenta, the group could advance without too much trouble; he used his poison control powers to gas each floor. Denasaia had prepared highly resistant gas masks to help them survive the poison.

After each battle, the group could continue to advance, but it took them time. It took an entire day to finally reach the top of the tower, the st floor where Deyahu's throne was located. Denasaia opens the doors and is greeted by a rge hall with a throne at the far end. It was the only room in the tower that was still proper and unruined, as if Deyahu had taken good care of his little cozy nest. A rge red carpet served as a path to the throne, with ancient relics dispyed on various tables.

"I've been watching you since you arrived above my tower. I was expecting you, and I'm not disappointed... My name is Deyahu, the 78th Deadhorse, the heir... I imagine you haven't come as friends or to pray to me."

  Denasaia shakes her head quickly.

  "We want the Seki."

Deyahu raises an eyebrow; he was expecting many things but not this. He smiles and creates a fme in the palm of his hand.

"Why would I give you this pnt?"

"Because the whole world will succumb to the red pgue! You must give it to us!"

Melita was completely enraged at Deyahu. She was still young and very reckless, and she didn't hesitate to yell to compin about the situation. It was her way of expressing herself, which had never really bothered the group before.

"Do you really think I'm going to save your race? After you destroyed my civilization? No, of course not. I will not give you this treasure."

Dena smiles slightly and crosses her arms.

"This is not a request or a plea; it is an order."

She had said this very coldly with the same smile that was meant to be very provocative. Obviously, this smile was beginning to enrage the heir, and he grits his teeth while looking at the scientist.

"And whom do I have the honor of addressing? Who are you to give me an order?"

Here's the transtion from French to English, keeping all elements intact:

  "Doctor Denasaia."

She looked into Deyahu's eyes; her smile remained the same, but Deyahu could feel shivers down his spine. Something was really suspicious to him when he looked at the scientist; there was a bit of malice emanating from her aura.

"I don't know such a name, but you are an interesting person."

Vasanta steps forward and looks at Deyahu; he had remained quite calm until now. He didn't like talking for no reason.

"Now give us what we're looking for!"

  Deyahu shakes his head.

"You'll have to defeat me. It's been a long time since anyone has come here to talk to me, so... I haven't fought in a long time. I hope I'm not too rusty."

Deyahu removes his jacket and arms himself with his spear, giving a small smile. Denasaia pulls out a metal staff that suddenly transforms into a sickle. Melita takes out her bow, and Vasanta draws a cymore that he imbues with poison.

"This is our st battle; we must win!"

Vasanta had shouted in a sort of war cry. Melita smiles, and Denasaia steps forward.

"We are ready. Savor the st minutes of your existence..."

With his other hand, Deyahu prepares a fireball that he throws toward Denasaia, who manages to avoid it without any problem. Denasaia and Vasanta immediately go on the offensive in melee combat while Deyahu prepares another fireball aimed at Vasanta.

Once the fireball is unched, Deyahu imbues his spear with fire and charges toward the duo.

Vasanta parries the first assault from Deyahu; poison meets fire. Denasaia, who was fairly close, tries to attack Deyahu from behind, but he makes a small jump to distance himself from the duo.

However, Melita reacts quickly and fires one of her arrows at Deyahu. Melita could turn people to stone; she can control the power but doesn't dare use it when her allies are close to her, which is why she concentrates her power in her arrows.

Melita's first arrow unfortunately hits its mark and lodges between Deyahu's legs; the red carpet where the arrow struck partially turns to stone.

The 78th heir had understood Melita's power, which would prove to be dangerous, so he immediately charges toward Melita. The duo obviously wouldn't let the 78th heir kill their ally, so they both run after Deyahu.

Vasanta is the first to catch up to Deyahu and tries to strike him at hip level, but Deyahu turns to parry Vasanta's blow. This slight moment of distraction allows Melita to flee and avoid the man's attacks.

Denasaia was also approaching Deyahu once again; in a two-against-one, the heir seemed to be a bit overwhelmed. Denasaia's handling of the sickle is magnificent, and she delivers precise strikes that cause several wounds to the body of the 78th Deadhorse's heir.

However, it takes more than that to defeat an heir; he was not human or semi-human, but closer to the status that a god's angel might have.

Deyahu, overwhelmed by the duo's attacks and with his rather rusty fighting style, tires very quickly, and this fatigue allows Vasanta to hit the heir in the stomach; the poison begins to take effect on his wound.

Denasaia and Vasanta back away; the heir grows weaker and weaker. Denasaia looks at Melita, who nods.

She prepares one of her arrows, which directly hits the heir's arm.

"No! No! No! This is not possible!"

The heir screams in pain; he hadn't felt pain for many centuries. Slowly, at the site of the wound caused by the arrow, his skin begins to turn to stone, and this stone gradually spreads over the heir's entire body, covering his right arm and then moving toward his neck and pelvis.

  "You cannot!"

Denasaia approaches with the sickle and points it at the heir's neck; the stone continues to spread to the lower part of his body and his left arm.

"The era of the Deadhorses has long passed... Goodbye."

The heir wanted to move but could no longer do so; he looked at the doctor one st time and shouted:

"You are not just a simple mortal! I recognize you! Who are you!"

Denasaia raises her eyebrows, still holding the bde of her sickle at his neck.

  "Death."

Suddenly, the man's face turns to stone; he is now transformed into a statue, and Melita slightly stares at Denasaia because of what she had said. The scientist turns around and smiles at the gorgon.

"I've always dreamed of pcing that phrase somewhere!"

The group looked at each other, and Vasanta and Melita couldn't help but ugh slightly. Their quest is finally over after years.

"Good, let's retrieve the ingredient and get off this isnd before monsters show up."

Vasanta says with a nod. Melita puts away her bow, and Denasaia begins to examine the throne room until she finds the Seki. She smiles and says:

"I've found the st ingredient... And looking at it, I think I can find a way to clone it..."

Vasanta, Denasaia, and Melita slowly descend from the tower to return to their vessel
