The Day the Story Left (poem)

Great was the skies in their agony

  The day the story Left.

Fortuitous no more were the cities

  The day the story Left.

People bustling suddenly stopped, stripped of meaning

  The day the story Left.

In fact, all was lost. Or was it?

  The day the story Left.

  For what reason? Mattered not.

  For what desire? Ha. Pish-posh.

For what at all? The effect was

  That day, the story Left.

The story Left me in fright

The story Left us all, that’s right

And when it may come back tonight

  For all we know

  It might

  The day the story Left.

  The story Left amidst applause

  Or criticism, boos and awes

The story yet Left agape our jaws

  The story aches and pulsed

  Raw

But it sure didn’t need us, did it

  As it went and Left.

It Left us in the rain and sun

It Left us in the Milky Way

It Left us in our homes and groups

And Left us feeling missing too

It Left us without hopes and dreams

  No comprehension and no means

  We were Left in disarray

  As the story Left.
