Small shafts of light passed through the canopy, the final light before darkness further ahead. Something in the air seemed different, like it was more heavy, the presence of something I can barely describe. It felt nice though, like something was missing in the air before. Wondering at this, I headed into the dark forest, towards the Argent mountains past it.
The light dimmed as I walked, causing me to walk in near blindness. Using magic, I tried to sense what was on the ground. The problem however, was that I can push, but can't pull, for now. Walking, I tried over and over again, until something clicked.
Now walking with eyes fully closed, I could faintly feel the differences in the ground. It wasn't that accurate though, as the occasional rock or root snagged my foot. As I walked along the treacherous path, something smacked my head. Jumping back slightly in fright, my heart calmed down, as it was only a branch, until something smooth and could be felt on it. Opening my eyes, I realized it was still too dark to see clearly.
To my great relief, it seemed to just be a tree branch with no bark on it. Thankfully I found a big drawback of my way of sensing. I couldn't sense things too far above the ground, and cannot sense properly with my eyes open. Feet? could be sensed in the distance.
'Why is there feet? This forest is pretty remote. Could this be a bounty hunter?'
Wary of strangers, I moved away from where the feet was moving.
''Stranger danger' is a rule that I need to abide by while outside, especially when I'm young, from what I've been told.'
Things never go as pnned. The footsteps I feel are approaching in my direction, with some way of locating me maybe. Testing if they have a way to locate me, I started moving in a different direction, taking care to not disturb the leaves. As I moved, I became certain I was tracked... my fortune was shit.
I started frantically running, pushing branches out the way as I dashed deeper into the forest. Scratches marred my arms, as the footsteps sped up, hitching my breath. I was being herded, that I was sure of. I didn't want to find out by any means where I was headed.
Pausing in pce suddenly, I realized something. I didn't even need to run around like a normal person. I am a mage now, with my own way of travel. Abruptly, I sunk myself into the warm embrace of the ground. Heck, it was even easier than before! Maybe it has to do with the environment, and how the strange thing in the air affects my ease.
Calming my breath, I closed my eyes to focus on my surroundings. The feet started to rhythmically walk away from me.
"Thank goodness."
Heaving a sigh of relief, I wiped some of my sweat from my forehead. My pot was dropped in the chase just now so I didn't have anything to eat again.
A pale purplish head with gringly dark eyes showed up hanging upside down right in front of me, underground.
"Thank goodness?"
It asked.
"AAAAAHHHH!!! GHOST, GHOST!!!"
Wailing hysterically, I desperately backed away, but the earth just wouldn't budge. The walls held firm, a prison of my own making. Sobbing quietly in a corner, my fate was sealed, doomed. The head ughed, chuckling for a bit before pulling me out, like a fresh radish in the farms.
"It's fine now, I'm not going to eat you."
I was wriggling like a worm, turning away from the ghost. The grip was ironcd, but my struggles were not fruitless. I was dropped, I was free! Only to be caught in chains. It turned me over.
'Why am I in this strange woman's chains?'
A dy in purple with a sash was revealed to me. The face felt natural on her, but the pupils were and are scary. Cringing away, I gnced to the sides for any signs of trickery. Sunlight? Sunlight. We were in a clearing, sunlight beaming down and dark woods on the sides. To test the waters, I asked.
"Who are you, and can you release me?"
"Introductions are in order, I am Morgana, and your name?"
The chains loosened, before vanishing into thin air. Staring in amazement, I ran, doing a fancy backwards dive towards the ground. Only to get halfway into the ground before the world around me flipped. Now, I was upright, turned right side up, with an amused Morgana in front.
"Now you're ready to listen?"
"Yes..."
Kneeling like a child before elders, I hung my head down as she sat down on a stump in front of me. When I tried to sense where she was on the ground, all I drew was a bnk. It was like there was nothing pressing down on the stump. She started questioning me.
"You left Demacia right? What is your name?"
"Yes, my name is Aerth."
Humming to herself, she nodded. I hope nothing was wrong. She continued after a bit.
"Would you like to learn some things about magic?"
Shocked, I raised my head.
'Is this a trap? At least it doesn't seem like I'm going to die.'
"Erm, yes?"
"Good."
Breathing a sigh of relief, as I didn't know if I was being tested on being a magic hater or something. Back at Demacia, no one talked about magic in a good way. The only thing I knew is that you need to report yourself if you can do anything out of the ordinary. Morgana continued regardless of my expression.
"Show me your magic, I will help you appraise it, as you are young."
Dumbfounded, I quickly nodded before picking up some dirt to show that I could sculpt it. She shook her head.
"That is not magic, that is your physique doing something. How curious. It seems like your ability to go into the ground also stems from this."
Moving onto my next thing I had in mind, I stood up slowly. She didn't react, eyes following me. Cautiously, I pressed a foot on the ground, shaking a small area around my foot.
"Oh. That's strange, I thought you would know earth magic, as your body is more inclined to it. It seems that what happened is that it affected your inborn magic, changing the way that you channel it."
"So it's not earth magic?"
"It is sound magic. Earth magic's general name is stone magic."
Now that was strange. The whole time I had channeled it through my feet, to the ground. Immediately, I tried using my hands to aim it towards the air above. Nothing happened.
"That is your physique at work, it seems that you can only transfer vibrations through a physical medium."
Nodding, I plopped down again.
"Mana is present everywhere, but this pce has a little more. You should be able to feel it like something in the air."
I nodded again. Now I had a name for the feeling. She waved goodbye.
"Remember to visit when you decide to return to Demacia."
My hopes were dashed. This short of an instruction is unexpected. Reluctantly, I waved and asked.
"Which way to the Argent mountains?"
She pointed east, and I started walking with my newfound knowledge.
