"Land ahoy!"
People started moving upwards, as I woke up from sleep. Bag slung over my shoulder, I joined the others up top. Dawn had arrived, as darkness covered the majority of the water with a line of light encroaching forwards. I patted someone's shoulder as I yawned.
"Hey, what's that city?"
"Bel'zhun. Shouldn't you have researched about the city you're visiting?"
"Nah man, I'm good. I'm heading to Nashramae."
The yellow speck of nd sat in the horizon. The sea there had various small boats moving around. The past five days had made everyone smell bad, either becoming fishy, salty or pure smelly. I had long changed into an extremely light shirt to blend in with the others.
Lights illuminated the ship as nterns were lit. The pier came ever closer. A small rowboat lit by a mp came to the ship. A sonorous low voice swelled up. The person on the rowboat spoke some gibberish before I could recognize what he said.
"What for is thou purpose?"
A callback came from the ship. Some repeated sounds could be heard as I only recognized a few words like Nashshramae and Bel'zhun. After the discussion, the ship started again, following the boat.
"Anchor!"
The anchor dropped with a spsh as the chain followed it down the water. The gangpnk got set up.
"We are departing in two hours! Two hours you hear me! Those that leave, leave. Farewell to those that leave and remember! Two hours or less!"
Thankfully for me, it was unlikely that they would leave without a navigator and get us stranded. Walking down, the world felt like it was swaying. I had gotten accustomed to the rocking of the ship, making the pin, sandy ground feel unstable.
Once on the dock, I turned towards my side.
"Anything you want to do?"
"Ehem, no money, what can we do? Earn money of course!"
"Not like we can earn anything with only two hours."
Ezreal smiled sinisterly, tapping his finger together in front of his face.
"We can go 'liberate' some for ourselves. From bad people of course, what do you think I am?"
It seems that my gaze was too obvious.
"Onwards!"
"Huff huff huff, haah, haaaah. What happened to them? It's not we robbed their ancestral tombs!"
We rested in an alleyway catching our breathes as sounds of investigation came from another street.
"So you do know what we did!"
"Who knew that shabby pce held their savings! It's obviously a hidden treasure, finders keepers after all."
"Hah. Let's go back on the ship for safety."
We walked out, both of us wearing backpacks. I gestured towards a food stall. He nodded as we strolled there. Tourists that don't return with anything is suspicious.
"Boss! I'll have that please."
I pointed towards the ft bread id out in a row. I had long noticed the smell. It had a nuttier smell than the bread I was used to. Golden patches coated the bread as it sizzled lightly. A thick accent came out of the cook.
"One. Securi."
He wagged his finger while deftly flipping the bread.
"Four, bread."
As I rustled my pocket for coin, a voice called out in the line.
"Piltovan money works too."
The cook jokingly shook his fist at the customer in the back as he spoke in a clear and articute voice.
"Ten bronze for two ftbread. You can pick toppings."
"I'll have whatever that guy took."
"Me too!"
We went to the back of the line.
"Thanks man."
"No problem. That guy likes doing that every time someone from Piltover or Noxus comes. I got tricked once, so I resolved myself to not let others get tricked. My choice of toppings MAY be more of an acquired taste..."
"That's the point of traveling right?"
The line quickly moved forwards as one after another happily left with golden ftbread wrapped in a leaf. I gulped.
"Here you go!"
"Thanks."
We hurriedly blew at the bread to cool it as we walked back to the harbour. I bit into the bread. Steam gushed out as the pocket inside opened. Just the pin taste was worth a trip. Salty, crisp outside with a soft steamed inside. Sausage and leaf things mixed with herbs were inside. My mouth watered as the decision to eat as soon as possible opposed the possibility of a burn.
We soon arrived back at the ship, as people were transporting crates. We casually walked up, waved and went up. It seemed it was almost time to leave as passengers came onto the ship. A rge majority of them were families.
But the peace was broken as trouble came our direction. The investigation by red clothed people were coming. We shared a gnce as we headed towards the passenger cabin.
In just one minute, they arrived at the ship. Muffled speaking could be heard outside as I shivered. It reminded me of a bad memory.
The investigation ended as soon as it started. The boat started moving away, ahead of schedule. A twang of guilt happened as I deemed my self preservation more important than the passengers that returned te.
Just as I thought we were free, a wave rocked the ship as rge spshes happened near the ship. Panic started to spread, but the adults shushed the kids as they walked out. The sailors worked furiously as they rowed in tandem with the sails.
"Starboard!"
The ship turned, leaving the small back exposed in pce of the side. The wind wasn't favourable, as the captain yelled direction after direction to catch the wind.
Two ships were behind as they followed, unable to fire their cannons without slowing down. Both sailed with a Noxian emblem but only one was enveloped with steel. More ships embzoned with the emblem were giving chase further behind.
It seemed that luck was in our favour as we shook off the chase. Ezreal went off to pn a route to Nashramae while it was my turn to gather information. It was no coincidence that we were attacked. We haven't been discovered so it must be a problem with the other passengers.
Right?
But first, there was a sailor second-in-command? comforting the other passengers from Piltover. It doesn't seem like I need to go around anymore.
"Everyone will be compensated! What happened is between the Shurimans and the Noxians! But we, we are unreted to this matter so they will not come after any of you once we arrive at Nashramae!"
"Pffst. Unreted? Must be the new passengers."
The voice couldn't be distinguished in the crowd. And everyone tacitly ignored it, as it was what everyone thought.
The ship was like a powder keg as it silently sailed.
