With this proficiency I can read one volume which would have taken thirty hours in six hours of in-game time. Meaning I can read about four volumes on a school day, though of course this is extremely draining so Malek began assigning me minor tasks to complete. While reading my stats have also increased, and while I believed the stats should affect mana and health points Malek said that gaining experience and leveling are required before they are raised.

I have gained a large amount of skills, especially for my level. Though I have gained plenty of skills, they are completely worthless against someone even 6 levels higher.
Thinking I should gather more experience Malek walks down the stairs.
"I think it's about time for us to begin." Malek begins with an odd statement.
"Begin what? I haven't even finished reading through these volumes, yet you keep giving me errands to run, I would be done by now if you hadn't."
If you encounter this story on Amazon, note that it's taken without permission from the author. Report it.
"We shall begin your training, I needed you to explore and gain experience outside. We will be leaving Rodenheim and you will gain further experience."
"We finally get to leave this town? I've been stuck here for ages while others could venture out and learn of the world."
"Yes we can finally leave this town and venture out. I know of a place with monsters much beyond your level, I will train you there where you can gain strength where others cannot even enter." Malek makes a slight smirk as he throws me a bag.
"Use this bag to carry the books, take all of them just in case, it reduces the weight of everything held inside by 90%."
"Wha- 90%?! This must be some exceptionally rare item!" I shout in exclamation.
"Huh? Really? I've got a ton, then again I am a bit of a strange one." Malek laughs lightly.
"Well, we are heading out. Let's go." Malek turns and heads back up the stairs and I quickly follow.

Reading while sitting on our wagon we venture out.
"Oh, I almost forgot. Here is this staff I prepared for you." Digging through his bag Malek pulls out a staff multiple times longer than what should fit inside the bag.
A white carved wood staff with an illustrious glow. Similar to a shepherd's staff it hooks at the end, yet it stands at about six feet tall. at the end of the hook a chain falls down and carries a lantern. Inside the lantern is not a flame, but a crystal suspended in the center.
"I crafted this staff myself, I call it 'Lightbringer'"

"THIS STAFF IS OVERPOWERED!" I scream in excitement at the gift given to me by Malek.
"It isn't that special, it's more of a crutch for you to use to become more powerful." Malek begins to dispel my excitement.
"At any time, as long as I have this staff, I am three times more powerful than I would be without it."
"That's not necessarily true, each spell has it's limit and a person three times more experienced than you will have spells three times better, while you are stuck using the lower level spells. Meaning you are distinctly limited in the number of spells you can use compared to people who are of the same strength as you with the staff. Not to mention that if you are separated from the staff you will lose that strength and then get squashed like a bug."
"… Way to destroy my excitement Malek, but this staff is still overly powerful." I clutch the staff as a grin spread across my face.
Our wagon continues in the direction of the forbidden forest.
