Chapter 5: Wakeup Call

Marcus stared at John, "Our initial reports are sketchy, but from what we can discover Veronika Jones was born Veronika Bck, she disappeared in Eastern Europe about two years after the Emergence event. It was presumed she died, but when she reappeared in North America about thirty years ago the State Department streamlined her visa and citizenship, more importantly, she had one Aaron Jones in tow. Around the same time, a joint Adventurers Guild and Freedom Cryer's group eliminated three human trafficker groups, one was African based so we can discount them as his father based on DNA testing." John reported. Marcus nodded causing John to continue his report, "Based on his pre-Intergration looks and DNA, his father was likely Eastern European. His mother died two years ago, in a car crash due to a lightning strike and road conditions, inspectors ruled out foul py. Any chance at discovering who his father was, died with her and the raids on the human traffickers since the raiders wouldn't have kept records of the events." John reported.

Marcus grimaced but nodded his head in agreement. That time in human history was...contentious and a lot of independent groups had cropped up with nations had failed their citizens, "What do we know about what caused him to go down the path to become an Adventurer?" John looked slightly nervous which peeked Marcus curiosity even more.

John was usually fairly stoic, "It's personal, very personal and the information should be carefully divulged as I could easily see why the new Pureblood would be angered by it." he cautioned Marcus. The Patriarch just waited patiently, "His son's death, the boy was five years old when he died from brain cancer. That age is too young for Health Potions due to Mana exposure, and he couldn't afford the cost to hire a healer, and the local churches didn't have a healer that could deal with the cancer." John reported as Marcus winced in understanding.

John nodded his head, "Yes if that wasn't bad enough, the ex-wife got involved with a Rank B Adventurer around the same time and was in China when the boy died with her affair partner. She never showed up for the funeral, Victor sued both the Cn and the Adventurer himself after the divorce, won both cases, and a sizable payout from both. Victor utilized that money for the regur training regime the Adventurer Guild recommends for anyone wanting to become an Adventurer which I believe is why he survived the Intergration process." John finished the report.

Marcus leaned back, "I want everything on the Adventurer who was fucking the ex-wife and the ex-wife, I think they will become his targets for his ire, we both know what will happen if the guild gets wind of a Pureblood with a grudge against one of their own." John nodded before turning and leaving the room.

I did my best to contain the yawn I felt creeping up, after eating and drinking my fill, the exhaustion had set in but that wasn't surprising considering everything that had happened recently. According to Samantha, I would be spending the next couple of days eating, drinking, and sleeping more than not as my body recovered from all the physical and mental changes I had endured.

"Are you ok?" Veronica inquired as I leaned back in the chair I was sitting in.

I grimaced, "As best as I can, I feel like I can sleep for a week, but we have to go through this meeting first." I told her as I focused and brought up my Character Sheet and quickly brought up my Racial Information.

[colpse]Well...I was gd I had the Daywalker Perk, it did make me wonder why I didn't feel weakened despite the sunlight shining through the rge windows scattered around the room. "The gss is tinted, which changes the sunlight, so we don't take damage, nor are we weakened." Veronica quickly informed me.

I shrugged my shoulders, "I won't take damage from it anyway." I told her before I yawned, this time I didn't fight it.

"Damien, make the call, I want to be air born thirty minutes after this meeting." Veronica called out, earning a slight gre from me.

"I have not decided if I am coming with you or not, I have a pce here and I am perfectly fine." I reminded her.

Veronica frowned, "You will need more food and blood in the coming days, far more than normal, which will be expensive earning you more debt with the guild even if they were willing to give you the blood, they have on hand which they wouldn't normally do. You don't have the resources we have, we can also ensure your safety, and more importantly, the Purebloods that rule the East and Western Regions of North America as well as Central America Region will be aware of your presence. This means, our heads will be on the block if anything happens to you." she expined.

I grimaced, not liking losing my independence in the least as the deal was sounding more and more like what Emilio was trying to pawn off on me. I focused on the prompt blinking on my HUD, bringing up the notification I had been ignoring.

[colpse]I studied the information for a few moments in silence as I stood and stretched before making my choice, a shimmering orb appeared in front of me before breaking apart revealing a knife that I easily caught. With a thought, I brought up the new weapons information.

[colpse]It was a simple knife, double-edged, but sharp enough to cut through skin and muscle. I dismissed the information and frowned as I looked down at my body, "Am I taller?" I asked the others causing them to chuckle.

"Your body mass and size will change, currently you are six foot six inches tall, what were you before?" Veronica inquired as I sat down again.

"Six foot even." I told her as the door opened ushering in two people, one was the local head of the Adventures Guild who was here to make sure no more trouble occurred while the other was Josephine Cruze. I could tell why Veronica considered her more dangerous immediately, she was beautiful and knew how to use it and while I could easily see the curves, I could also see the hardened muscles below them.

"Mr. Victor Bck, this is Miss. Josephine Cruze, I am just here to make sure everyone keeps this civil, and we all walk away." the Dwarf stated firmly before moving to one of the open chairs.

Josephine smirked slightly, "I just want to speak to her, to clear the air and make sure there are no further misunderstandings." I tried to assure him, but my eyes were on her as I offered her my hand to shake.

After only a moment of hesitation, she took it, confirming my first suspicion as her reaction was far more controlled, "Of course, I am just here to pay my respects to the Pureblood as I don't want to make the same mistake as my former Patriarch." her voice was husky and had a slight purr to it. Yep, she was a man-eater, I gestured for her to sit down and moved to sit opposite of her as I did my best to control my own reaction, this was serious, and I didn't want my libido getting in the way.
