Vistilia wondered what the different lessons they would be learning as five year-olds. After all, they were only five. She was fairly certain that a five year old wasn’t all that smart in the grand scheme of things. Sure, there was Gaia, but she was gifted.
Gaia seemed to be a lot like her. Gifted with knowledge and intelligence. Yet, while Vistilia was a reincarnated entity, her friend Gaia was only a little girl with knowledge from earth, or an earth-like world. All in all, she was rather strange. Children were rather strange as well.
The teacher in front of the cssroom looked around the space as the seats filled in. After a bit of time, about 5 minutes of children moving around the room, he nodded his head and spoke. His voice was calm despite what he had showed Vistilia earlier. It was a wonder as well, he seemed tired.
“I am Mr. Gleytwor. I will be your teacher for the rest of the year. Today, I will not be teaching you, as today is an introduction. When I call your name, you will stand up and come up to the front of the room by my desk. Then, you will say something about yourself, and go back to your seat,” he expined.
“After that, I will show you all around the school. Then, the Director of or Putloeyk will be talking about this year and all the special activities that will be taking pce. That sound like fun?” he asked, and all the children other than Vistilia yelled affirmations.
Vistilia was rather disappointed. Sure, she was fine with what the day had in store, but she only really wanted to learn about the world that she lived in. maybe even learn some new ways to do mathematics. After all, she didn’t recall a lot about math from her past life.
In fact, she had to relearn a lot of it in this one. Which was rather disappointing. Sure, she knew a lot of things about a lot of subjects, but she wanted to soak up as much knowledge as possible. She wanted to learn the history of the country that she lived in. She wanted to learn about how these people saw the world. Sure, she had lived five years here. Yet, she hadn’t seen it all of course.
It was slightly saddening for her to learn. Of course, all the children around her were happy with this, many of them not realizing how much they could have missed out on. Gaia seemed to have noticed this. She asked the other little girl what was wrong.
“What’s wrong, Vistilia?” she asked, her voice tinged with worry, the little girl already cared deeply for her new friend.
Vistilia sucked in a breath. She wanted to tell her of her disappointment. Yet, she felt as though the other child wouldn’t understand. Yet, she spoke anyway.
“I just want to learn about the world. Yet, we aren’t even learning anything in css today. It peeves me,” she said, earning a raised brow from the other girl.
Gaia expected this. She didn’t really understand why the little girl beside her would want to learn so badly. Yet she understood that she liked learning and was curious. Even though she didn’t really show it on her face, she was curious.
“I like that. I want to learn too,” Gaia said, “I also want to do all of this too. Think of it as learning about the school itself,” she said, offering an oddly wise set of words.
Vistilia smiled at this. Her bnk facial features moving up, and greeted Gaia’s own smile. Gaia was happy now, now that her friend was happy.
“Okay, I am going to call everyone’s name in alphabetical order. Does everyone here what the alphabet is?” he asked, with only a dozen or so kids raising their hands, “Okay then, the alphabet is the order in which we line up our letters. Now, I am going to start, so everyone calm down,” he said.
The kids stopped their ramble, and Vistilia couldn’t help but think that these kids were maybe a bit too well behaved. It might have been a cultural thing, but she felt that these kids acted a bit older than they were. Still, she felt that it was good, she didn’t want to be dealing with bratty kids.
“First one is, “Ablmek son of Ablmek,” he said, his voice seemingly already tired.
A short child stood up. His hair dark, his eyes lingering on a girl. The boy seemed to be an early bloomer, at from what Vistilia could see. The teacher seemingly noticed this as well. A slight smile graced his face before the child spoke.
“I am Ablmek. I like girls,” he said and sat back down.
The teacher nodded his head. Satisfied with the childish like. The other children were seemingly fine with this line. The lot of them murmuring things about this and that about the child. Vistilia didn’t really care. she really only cared about the fact to remind herself that this child was probably an early bloomer.
The rest of the children went up, the majority of them being called on before her. Gaia being called on rather quickly. That left Vistilia simply waiting there. In her seat. It was rather neat to simply look at all these children as they spoke about their lives.
Some of the kids were quick, like Ablmek, and only said one or two lines. Others spoke about things that they probably shouldn’t have said. Such as a girl that was named, “Denma,” who went off about her dogs. Yet there was another boy, whose own name seemed like a slur, “Higger.”
He started to talk about and go on about his mother’s many friends, whom the teacher and Vistilia rightfully assumed to be boy toys. The teacher had to tamp down on the young boy’s words. Yet the child didn’t seem to want to stop, so the teacher had to make a compromise. He himself promised to tell a fact about his own life.
This dragged on the day by about 45 minutes. By the end of it, Vistilia was already tired. She wasn’t finding much enjoyment in school. She rather hoped that these children would grow up fast into adults, so she wouldn’t have to deal with kids. Then again, adults often acted like children as well, so it was a rather mute point.
Finally, as the only child with the letter that made the V sounds in this nd’s alphabet, Vistilia was called up. She looked at the teacher as he looked at his list and spoke her name. It had been a rather long hour, yet it was done.
“Vistilia, daughter of Leris,” he called out, keeping up the fa?ade of a happy teacher.
Maybe he was. After all, he wouldn’t keep this job if it gave him depression. Then again, he seemed like the kind of person to continue on for spite of the job alone. She wasn’t one to judge, of course. She had had a job and a mindset for said job like that in her first life.
She stood up at this, and the surrounding children looked at her with strange eyes. It was as if they felt something off about her. Of course, Vistilia noticed this and, while slightly exasperated, wasn’t much bothered at all.
“My name is Vistilia, Daughter of Leris. My father is also the Overseer of the western Guard,” she said, and sat down.
This earned a satisfied nod of the head from the teacher. Gaia herself just looked at Vistilia as if she wanted her to tell more, yet she decided against it. Vistilia rolled her eyes, and stood back up. This earned a eyebrow raise from the teacher.
“Gaia and I are also best friends,” she said with a bnk face as she always did when stating a fact.
Gaia squirmed in her seat, unsure of whether to be embarrassed, or happy at her good friend at simply stating that the two of them were best friends. She seemed to be leaning more on the happy side of things. After all, what Vistilia said did make her cheeks heat up in joy.
