So now the question is, how am I going to find a professional to train my minions. Considering the current issues, I was forced to postpone their training for now, but I made sure to encourage them to practice in their free time. They seemed rather relieved to be taking a break deciding to just rest up for the first day.
In the meantime, I decided to gather some info from the goblins about the humans we had encountered. It was of course to help me better understand any potential countermeasures we would need to implement but more importantly there was the potential of gathering new minions for me. My goblins understandably were rather against the idea though.
“I-I don’t think that’s a good idea sir… those humans are savages. They just see monsters like us as creatures that need to be eliminated….”
I recalled back to the incident I had with the human party from before which further confirmed their statement so I can’t say it was something I could deny.
Seeing how nervous they were about the subject I decided to change the topic a bit “Regardless it is important to know if there are any towns or other human dwellings nearby. It didn’t sound like those humans from before travelled too far off from here.”
“Y-yes sir, there is a small town not too far from here. We usually try to avoid their attention, since that would only increase their aggression towards us…”
So, with the information in hand, I pondered for a moment on what I should do. It was then I thought of a brilliant idea. My lips began to curl into a wicked smile, revealing the fangs underneath. My eyes began to squint in anticipation as a familiar sound was coming out of my mouth.
“Veehahahahaha, then I think it’s time I infiltrated this human town. Learn more about the humans ~”
Those within earshot gasped in surprise, probably stunned by my brilliant idea. One of the goblins cleared his throat, trying to recompose himself as he began to question me. “S-Sir… what you’re proposing is just impossible! I mean you don’t even look human, the second they see you they’re going to hunt you down relentlessly…”
In response I wagged my finger towards him and clicked my tongue, expecting such a response. “Tsk tsk, I already have a plan in mind of that.”
I gathered some left-over [Hide] and [Log] and began to use my trusty [Material Forge] skill to reforge them into [Leather Gloves], [Leather Boots], and [Wooden Dragon Mask].
I decided to do a quick Inspect on them before deciding to put them on.
As I finished Inspecting my new additional gear, I made sure to see if there were any adjustments needed to hide any parts of my scales like tying leather straps over the sleeves and inside the [Leather Boots]. I also made sure that the snout of the [Wooden Dragon Mask] had plenty of empty space inside so that I could still speak inside of it. Afterwords I looked at my minions to gather their opinions on my disguise, expecting some praise over my ingenuity. “Soo, what do you think? ~”

They all glanced at each other, their expressions showing that they were trying to figure out what to say to me. “I-it’s uh very unique sir…”
“I’m sure they’ll never tell the difference chief…”
I snorted, satisfied with their response, and began asking for directions for the human town. As we were discussing on the details Mordred came by, probably doing his daily guard routine with V on his shoulders. It seems the little goblin finds his shoulder as a comfortable spot, not that I blame them, it IS a nice spot to sit on. Strangely though, the second he looked in my direction his expression suddenly changed to rage, the intensity of it managed to kick start my unreliable kobold instincts.
It was difficult to keep my own shaking body from fleeing in terror from my own henchman as he angrily stomped towards me. Poor V themself wondering what was going on as Mordred stood tall above me, his ax pointing directly at me.
“WHO ARE YOU AND WHAT ARE YOU DOING AT THE BOSS’S TERRITORY?!”
…
I was dumbfounded, it seems my disguise was a little too effective in fooling the minotaur. Not wanting to escalate the problem, I immediately tried to take off my mask. That proved to be difficult as I had designed some sections of it to slide so as to give my head more room to put it on and right now it was stuck. This was starting to make Mordred impatient; he was ready to use his ax and started to wind up his arm to swing his ax, making me move frantically as I continued to struggle to remove my mask.
“3….” He tightened his grip on the handle as the panicked minions were trying to move out of the way.
“2….” His eyes were fully locked on me, making sure not to lose sight of me as I continued to struggle with my mask.
Before things got ugly, I finally managed to remove my mask at the last second as I quickly yelled out. “Wait! It’s me Mordred, I’m wearing a disguise!!”
He immediately stopped his attack and I managed to give a large sigh of relief. I noticed everyone else was panicking or hiding from a safe distance, wondering if the danger was over and I had to try to make calm everyone down.
“B-Boss? S-sorry I couldn’t tell it was you, that was a very convincing disguise.” Mordred could only rub the back of his head in embarrassment as he put his ax away.
Meanwhile, V was eyeing up my mask, clearly interested in it. “That looks sooo cool Mr. Vlad! Could I have one please! ~”
As usual they were as adorable as ever “Mayber later V, for now I need this as I plan to infiltrate the nearby human town.”
Mordred began to laugh loudly, clearly forgetting how he had almost beheaded me only a few seconds ago. “So, it’s time to conquer the humans now huh boss?! They won’t know what hit them! ~”
“I couldn’t agree more. But right now, I am merely going to check out the town and gather some info. You would definitely stick out like a sore thumb, so I need you to stay here for now and guard the place. V, I need you to keep track of my location and make sure to pay attention for anything unusual.”
Mordred saluted to me, and V nodded in understanding. Though I still have my concerns over how Morded was going to handle things without me keeping him in check. But I decided to trust my instincts for now and hope for the best.
As I began to prepare my journey to town, I took one last look at my settlement who all greeted me off on my own. Once I was out of sight, the three familiar kobolds started to comment on something that apparently no one else had noticed.
“So uhm…. is anyone going to tell the chief that he forgot to hide his tail? ...”
“I doubt the chief was going to listen to us…”
“Yeah…. Let’s just see how this goes….”
After some time, I continued following the directions the goblins gave me. Going through the forests and finally seeing the town not too far from view. I made sure that I had my gear all in order and began to walk towards the town entrance, spotting a group of humans entering,
I steel myself as I walked behind them. A few of them noticed me and were talking among themselves, but otherwise didn’t really do anything else. I’m sure they didn’t notice I was a kobold underneath and that the disguise was working.
Once I reached the entrance, there were two guards stationed there as they were inspecting everyone that was coming in. Most of them managed to get in just fine, though there was one human who ended up arguing with one of the guards, I’m not sure why. I wasn’t really paying attention to their conversation.
Soon enough it was my turn. As I walked up to the guards, they started to examine me, with a look of confusion in their eyes, only to notice my two swords strapped to my side and began to question me.
“Are you here to register as an adventurer?” the guard asked, still looking confused and I could swear I thought I heard some pity in his tone of voice.
Wanting to avoid raising any suspicion, I decided to play along with it. And I admit I was curious to check it out myself. “Oh yes I am, I’m new here so could you give me directions?”
The guard agreed and provided the information I needed for the adventure’s guild and sent me on my way. I thanked the guard and entered within the outskirts of town. Once I was out of earshot of the guards, they started to talk amongst themselves.
“Are you sure you should have sent that kid there.”
“Yeah, I’m sure. He may look young, but he is one of those Beastman, probably of the scaled species. They are known to be physically strong. Besides, I doubt they would have a kid do something dangerous early on.”
The other guard nodded in agreement “You’re right, I’m sure he’ll be fine.”
I managed to find the Adventure’s guild, making sure not to get distracted from the other buildings. I figure the guild would prove to be a good place to gather some info.
With full confidence I walked inside the building, ready to see what they had to offer. But unknown to me, a large figure was behind me not too far off.
