Chapter 5

The Countess carefully inspects the strange bck metal wagon her servant Julia had summoned earlier. She remains cautious not to touch it, it might be another one of Julia’s strange yet powerful weapons.

Aurel finally comes back after carrying Julia to her chambers. The Countess wished to get her opinion. The woman had given her good advice in her time of need, she had given her hope when there was none to be found, she had scarified her dream to become a knight to serve her family. Her words were the ones the Countess was most eager to hear.

  Aurel: She has fallen asleep

Cressida: Good, let her rest. Tell me, what do you think of this object?

Cressida gestures toward the bck glossy wagon

Aurel stared at the wagon long and hard

Aurel: I honestly do not know…

  Cressida: I’d say it’s a carriage, wouldn’t you?

Aurel: But that huma– err Julia said it weighs around 4 horses. If it's true then imagine how many horses it would take to pull this strange carriage

Cressida: Perhaps it’s an armored carriage. I’ve heard rumors of other nations experimenting with such things.

Aurel: The number of horses required to pull such a thing would be ridiculous…

She looks back to the bck wagon

Aurel: Although… My dy, you could be right. What if the horses in Julia’s country are much stronger than what we find here

Cressida: Hm. I’ve just realized something else. If it's a carriage, where does the coachman sit?

Aurel’s eyes dart all over the wagon and its interior as she looks inside through the high quality transparent gss. There was a pce to sit inside, but then how would a coachman control the horses from inside? Especially if he cannot see what's in front of the horses. If the coachman sits on the top of the wagon he could easily slip down

Aurel: I do not know my dy…

Cressida: I believe it would be best to ask Julia herself when she wakes up

She turns toward the guard and commands

Cressida: Post a few guards around this… carriage. No one is to touch it until Julia wakes up. Also ensure that everything Julia summoned today is collected and pced in my personal storage room.

The guard bows and starts gathering everything up while his fellow guards bring some sacks to put the weapons and bullets in. Cressida and Aurel watch the guards as they work, making sure even the smallest thing Julia summoned goes in the bag and not in someone’s pocket.

Aurel: If these weapons work half as well as how Julia demonstrated them today, I think we can finally get some peaceful sleep and stop worrying so much about the theocracy

Cressida: You might just be right… however this brings up new issues

Aurel: About that… let's discuss it in your study my dy.

  -------

Helen and her friends from manor staff come out to check the new type of carriage that had appeared at the side of the manor. While serving the Countess paid very well, life around the Cowper Estate was pretty dull for the servants. They only had each other to socialize with as the manor was quite a distance away from even the closest town.

Even the smallest event at the estate quickly became the center of attention among the staff, and Julia, the newest addition into their ranks, was everything anyone could talk about these days. Julia had gotten extremely close to Countess in a very short amount of time. While being a personal attendant for the Countess required years of experience, skills and the Countess’s trust, Julia had managed to become her personal attendant in mere days.

Rumors and theories started circuting as to why the Countess chose to make such an ill-mannered girl her personal servant. Some said it was because of her blood while others pointed out that she might be very well literate. All of these rumors vanished when the sound of the first gunshot spread throughout the manor. Julia’s strange magical ability was now known to everyone. Many wanted to be the Countess’s personal attendant and hence were jealous of the girl, after all a personal attendant was paid around two to three times more than a servant of the house. After learning about Julia’s ability to do magic, the jealousy of the servants turned into understanding and curiosity. Magicians were so rare that most had only heard about them from word of mouth. Only the wealthy and nobles had the funds to hire one. And with the war with the theocracy raging on, magicians were even rarer than diamonds these days

Helen: Wow… it's so polished… I think this carriage might even be more polished than that of kings

  Helen said to her friend

Maid: When have you seen a king’s carriage?

Butler: *chuckles* Probably in one of her dreams

Helen pouts then looks at her friends and replies smugly

Helen: Might I remind you my bonding ceremony took pce in the capital. There my bonded took me around the city and I saw a carriage covered in gold with symbol of the royal family

Butler: Just because it had the symbol of the royal family doesn’t mean it was king’s carriage

  Helen: What else–

  Maid: No fighting you two

Helen pouts and looks away from her friend

Butler: I do admit this carriage is very well polished though

  He points towards the door

Butler: Can you see that? I think I can see my reflection in there

He walks closer to the carriage, but a hand stops him. One of the four guards posted around the carriage speaks

Guard: No one is to touch the object, my dy’s orders

  Butler: Oh… Sorry

The trio admires the carriage from afar, they notice more servants had started to gather around the strange carriage

Helen: It's very… short… How will the coachman see the path? Won’t the horses block the view of the path?

Maid: It's obviously meant to be pushed by horses from behind not pulled by them

The butler puts his hand on his chin

  Butler: Pushed?

Maid: Is Julia a noble as well? Do you think that's the coat of arms of Julia’s family?

The maid asked, pointing to the strange mark in the front of the carriage. Three equally spaced lines intersecting in the middle surrounded by a ring, they resembled a wheel. The mark gleamed in the soft glow of the torches carried by the guards

Helen: I don’t think she is a noble. The way she speaks… Surely not a noble

Both of her friend turned to her

Butler: Don’t tell me you are already friends with her

Helen: *giggles* What if I am? She is a nice person

  --------------

I wake up with a jerk

  Julia: Fuck my neck

I murmur while massaging my neck, this goddam pillow is too hard! My whole body feels sore, like I just ran a marathon. My throat seems parched as well. I get up to grab a gss of water only to notice the sunlight peeking through my window, it's then that I realize.

Julia: FUCK! I woke up te again! My dy is gonna give me an earful

I put on my sandals and ran towards my dy's study. As I stumble through the door my dy looks up from the documents she was reading

Cressida: It’s you. I was curious how long it would take for you to wake up.

She furrows her brow and goes back to reading the document in her hand

Cressida: Also, you forgot to knock. Please be more mindful next time.

Is it me or is she in a good mood today I thought she’d be more angry at me for being te for work AGAIN

Julia: Sorry for being te. What shall I help you with today my dy?

Cressida: Do not concern yourself with that now. Rest or eat something. You need to recover your strength after yesterday.

  Julia: Huh?

Wait… WAIT! MY FUCKING DREAM CAR!

I smile brightly at my dy and blurt out with excitement

  Julia: Is my car ok?

She looks up momentarily at me before looking down again

Cressida: If you mean that strange bck carriage, then yes it's fine. In fact–

She locks her eyes with mine, commanding me with an authoritative voice

Cressida: I expect you to show me how useful it actually is in the evening

Julia: You are gonna love it my dy

Cressida: Hm. It seems you’ve regained your strength. I want you in my study as soon as you finish eating your lunch.

Lunch? Did I sleep that te?

Julia: W-will you be joining me…

Cressida: No, I had my breakfast. But do have your lunch

  Julia: Yes my dy.

I close the door gently as I leave her study. Damn no breakfast date today I guess. I am starting to love our little breakfast or lunch dates. Too bad I woke up te today and missed out on it.

As soon as I enter the dining room I see Aurel seated at one of the chairs at the long table swirling a gss of blood. She looks zoned out. I call out to her in a soft voice so as to not startle her.

  Julia: Hello Aurel

  She looks up

Aurel: Hu– Julia, I hope you are feeling better

Julia: Well my body is still pretty sore

Aurel: My elder brother used to have the same problem after he exhausted all his mana when we were kids

Mana? I take a seat beside her

Julia: Is that what happened to me?

Aurel: Ah. I forgot you are new to magic. You see, a magician cannot perform his magic however long they wish. They are limited by their magical reserve or mana

Ohh… So I cannot just summon an aircraft carrier or a fully functioning airport.

Aurel: But the good news is the more you drain your mana the more it increases. That's why many magicians start training as soon as they discover their abilities. However, beware, you leave yourself vulnerable after you have drained your mana

Julia: Oh, thanks for the info.

She takes a sip from her gss. A maid brings out a tray with too many fruits. Do they have fruits for lunch here sometimes? I thank the maid nonetheless before she leaves

Julia: Is your brother a magician? What kind of magic can he do?

She smiles fondly as she tells me more about him. Her gaze remains fixed on the blood as she swirls it

Aurel: He is charming, a magician, and a noble, truly a deadly combination. He’s a master of fire magic… When we were young, he used to conjure up a dancing figure made of fmes. It was mesmerizing, the most beautiful thing I had ever seen.

  She turns back to me

  Aurel: Ahh– Sorry for rambling.

Julia: Oh no, don’t worry. I like getting to know my friends

Aurel: Hm. By the way hu– Julia, what exactly is that strange carriage you summoned yesterday

I give her a bright smile as she mentions my dream car

Julia: You’ll have to wait and see for yourself when I show it off to my dy this evening.

  ------

The sun will soon set, and I am bored out of my mind. There is nothing for me to do, I finished all my work in 2 hours, and I’ve just been sitting here watching my dy read documents the whole time! At least let me summarize those for you! I really want to leave and just stroll through the gardens, but unfortunately I’m forbidden from leaving the manor without her permission. She opens a drawer on her desk and finally puts all the documents inside.

Cressida: Come, show me what's so special about this carriage you summoned

I grin from ear to ear and reply excitedly

Julia: YES! *Ahem* I mean of course my dy

I follow her lead as she walks to the side of the mansion where I had summoned the car yesterday. I take my position right near the hood of the vehicle as she and the guards watch me curiously

Julia: So… Just like nobles and rich people of this world travel in luxury with carriages and commoners probably travel in uncomfortable, cramped wooden wagons, this is a Mercedes S-css, the vehicle used by the rich of my world to travel. Let me show you.

I open the front passenger door and gesture for to sit, she looks at the leather seat inside for a moment before proceeding to sit. I gently close the door after making sure she is seated properly. I get into the driver seat, and she looks at me then toward the steering wheel

  Cressida: What is that?

She points to the steering wheel

Julia: It's used to steer the car. Let me just check…

The keys are already inside. I start the car and check its fuel gauge. It has half a tank of gas. The car is extremely quiet, almost making no noise… I wonder if this is the hybrid model

Cressida: The lights are so bright, it can be useful in our forts

Dear lord, is this the first thing that comes to her mind? The headlights can be used in her forts

Cressida: How exactly is that thing changing colors? Is it some kind of magic?

She points to the infotainment system.

Julia: Nope, no magic here, only technology. This screen is used to interact with the car

Cressida: Hm. So how exactly is this useful?

Julia: First, it's pretty cold out here, isn't it? Let me turn on the heat

A few seconds ter hot air starts circuting through the car and the seats get warm. Her normally stoic expression changes into a surprised one

Cressida: Is there fire inside this thing? Are you absolutely certain you’re not hiding some magic from me?

I smirk and put the car in drive

Julia: That's not even the impressive part my dy. See this

Her eyes go wide as the car starts to move.

Cressida: By the stars Julia! What– How…

This is the second time I have seen her at a loss for words. I could see the guards and the servants watch in awe as I drive at a snail's pace through the front of the mansion to the other side where the horse stables are. I also see a dark carriage with the Cowper coat of arms outside the stable. I would like to go full circle around the mansion, but the path at the back is too narrow for the car to fit through.

Julia: So how is it my dy?

I ask gleaming at the countess, hoping she would like it

  Cressida: ….

She is just staring outside the windshield until I brush my fingers against hers that were resting on the armrest. God, I love making her speechless, it's so cute

Cressida: How is this even possible?

  I smirk

Julia: Lots of engineering and a bit of fuel

  She furrows her brows

Cressida: Fuel? Are you talking about the same thing they use in furnaces?

Julia: I guess it's a good comparison, though the fuel here is gasoline instead of coal or wood or whatever they use in furnaces

  Cressida: *sigh*

  She shakes her head

Cressida: So it can move without horses, but it's too slow to be useful!

Julia: Oh no my dy, it can move very fast, I just drove slow since there were people in the way

Cressida: Show me, but wait… we’ll need an escort.

She turns towards the door and looks at it for a few seconds before turning back to me.

Cressida: Ugh, how am I supposed to open this?

Julia: You just pull on this handle here

I show her by opening my own door. She leaves and comes back in an instant. *Sigh* super speed. She gets in and closes the door.

Cressida: You need to move this… this

Julia: Car, this is called a car

Cressida: Yes move this car to the front gates while the guards get the horses ready

I do as she says, and we wait while the guards ready the horses

Julia: By the way, you can use this button right here to roll the windows up and down

She mimics my actions, surprise evident in her eyes as the windows move

Cressida: I must admit, this is quite convenient.

Julia: But please keep them closed it's quite cold outside

  Cressida: Hmm

She closes the window and l turn towards her. It's just me and her alone in this car, the windows block any noise from the outside, giving us a moment of peace. The expensive car gives me a boost in confidence, I should try to make a move, even if it doesn’t work at least I tried, right?

  Julia: My dy…

She turns to look at me, our eyes lock in this intense moment of silence, filled with unresolved emotions. Just for a second, the whole world outside disappears, and the only thing that exists is me, this extremely beautiful countess and my dream car

Julia: You know if we were in my world I would drive you around the city everyday showing you all the best pces…

I put my hand on top of hers, and she definitely notices but doesn’t pull back! YES!

Julia: I would spend every hour taking you where you wanted. It would be like a dream come true

My heart starts beating crazy fast, does she know? Does she know I am so nervous? She raises her brow before speaking

Cressida: Your dream is to be my servant… even in your world?

What? What! NO! My dream is to be your girlfriend. Does she really not get it or is she uncomfortable with this topic and is pretending not to understand. Or am I not being clear enough?

My dy proceeds to give me a small yet gentle smile

Cressida: You know, I think you might just win the title of my most loyal servant.

Before I can come up with a way to salvage the situation there is a knock on my window. It's Aurel. I don’t know whether I should be happy or angry for her interruption. I roll down the window

Aurel: Apologies for being te. Also did you move this thing?

  Julia: Don’t worry, I will just…

I go out and open the back door for her

  Julia: Come sit

She sits and looks around the interior

  Aurel: This is very comfortable

Cressida: Comfort is irrelevant if it’s slower than a carriage.

I see 2 horses approach through the rearview mirror, they stop at my side. The guards dismount, and open the two very heavy looking metal gates, they then get back up on their horses. The first thing my eyes see is the dirt road in the front

Julia: Uhh… One small problem… This car was made to be driven on paved roads not… that

I point to the unpaved path ahead

Cressida: That’s simply how most roads outside the cities tend to be.

Julia: The car might get stuck… But I will still try

  Cressida: Hm.

I put it in drive and put my foot on the gas, and we start to move, much slower than I’d like but faster than how I drove through the manor

  Aurel: We are moving!

  Julia: Yes

  Aurel: Without horses!

  Julia: Yes

  Aurel: How!?

Her voice is too loud! I reply to her softly

Julia: It burns fuel to move pistons which then rotate a shaft which then power the wheels

By the silence that followed I can guess she didn't understand a thing, well it's not like my expnation was good. We hit our first bump in a road and the bottom of the car scrapes the ground. The scraping sound absolutely breaks my heart.

Cressida’s grip tightens on the arm rest as Aurel asks

  Aurel: Is that safe?

Julia: Probably not… As I said this car wasn’t made for dirt roads

Cressida: Take the right turn here

I do as she says and carefully turn right. The speed which I am driving at definitely doesn't feel faster than a carriage. I drive slowly through the dark dirt road, there are no street lights here, so even the powerful headlights of this car are failing to illuminate the street beyond a few yards

I have to suddenly stop when I see a rock in the middle of the road. This car doesn’t have the ground clearance to get over it

  Cressida: What happened?

Julia: Um. There is a rock on the road my dy

Cressida: I know, I can see that, Julia! Surely, you’re not telling me we can’t get past this.

I can sense irritation in her tone. It seems I have disappointed her… yet again. I just shake my head not having the courage to reply to her with words

  Cressida: *frustrated sigh*

She opens the window calls one of them

  Cressida: We are going back

The guard nods and they both turn their horse around. I put the car in reverse since there isn't much space for a U-turn. The reverse camera turns on

Aurel: That… Is that the view of the back?

My dy gnces momentarily at the dispy showing the reverse camera feed before looking away and staring out the window disinterested

Julia: That's the reverse camera. It makes it easier to see what's behind us when we move the car backwards

Aurel just stares at the dispy amazed as I reverse until we reach the intersection where I took the turn. After we reach back at the mansion I park the car at the side where it was originally summoned. My dy gets out of the car smming the door shut, I let out Aurel before running behind the countess

  Julia: Please wait my dy

  Cressida: What!?

She says, anger apparent in her voice

Cressida: You know Julia, I clearly put too much faith in your abilities. I thought this would be incredible. But this… whatever it is, has turned out to be nothing but a complete waste of my time.

Ouch that hurts… Every word she uttered was ripping away at my heart. I couldn’t reply. My mind, my body, everything was frozen. She huffs and walks away from me. I just stand there frozen in pce until Aurel joins me

Aurel: Julia, don’t worry too much. I know her words might have hurt, but understand this, she’s under immense pressure. It’s not you she’s truly upset with.

There was a mix of emotions going through me, anger, sadness, disappointment, and guilt. I just ran back to my room like a coward… what else could I do? The thing is, her words wouldn’t have hurt much if I didn’t have these feelings for her…

UGH! Fuck her! Who needs a countess anyway? I will just earn some money and summon an off-roader and get the hell out of here after 2-3 months

  ------

Breakfast is uneventful the next day. Both of us stay silent the whole time as we eat. The tension in the air seems thick, even the maids and butlers felt tense.

The work was uneventful as well, nothing out of the ordinary. Except I can still feel her frustrations. There were no more experiments today, she just went to her room while I roamed around the mansion aimlessly looking for Helen.

  Aurel: No magic practice today?

Aurel suddenly popped up behind me, scaring the shit out of me.

Julia: You scared me! N-No, my dy retired to bed.

  Aurel: Hmm. Come follow me.

She took me to the front of the mansion again. The sun had almost set so there was barely any light around

Aurel: Do your magic, summon something

She says with a small smile. I think she might be trying to cheer me up

  Julia: Summon what though?

Aurel: I don’t know. What does the countess usually tell you to summon?

Julia: I am the one who usually requests her to summon something

Aurel: Then what do you want to summon?

  Julia: …

I think about it… the Mercedes was a flop so how about an off-road vehicle… In fact, since I will be the one using it to travel around in the future, it's better to summon an armoured off-road vehicle. Can I even summon one though? The Mercedes took all my mana to summon… but Aurel did say my mana increases the more I use it. Worth a try

Julia: I will summon something heavy again so be ready to pull me if it summons on top of me

  Aurel: One more car?

She gives me a confused look.

Julia: It's much better and heavier than a car

Aurel holds one of my hands, while I raise my other hand in front again and take a deep breath.

  Julia: I wish I had a JLTV

The humongous armoured vehicle dropped right where I wanted it to. I think I can now control where I want the things to be summoned

Aurel stares at the huge armoured desert tan vehicle

  Aurel: What even is that?

Julia: It's a JLTV. Our military uses it to transport troops

Aurel: A JLTV? What a strange name. Your country must have a real knack for picking odd titles for things.

Julia: *Chuckles* I don’t think it's strange. It stands for Joint light tactical vehicle

  Aurel: Even stranger

I smile and shake my head, turning to the towering armoured vehicle. Strange… I feel tired but not that much. It's like I really need to sleep, but I can go on for an hour or two more

  Julia: Let's see…

I walk up to the driver side of the vehicle and open the door. I climb up to the driver seat and see a thick book lying on the seat. I quickly flip through the pages and discover it a user and maintenance manual

I keep it aside and look around the interior, buttons and dials everywhere. I need to read the manual

Aurel: Can we go for a ride?

Aurel says standing by my side

Julia: I don’t think so….. This one is not like the other car. There I only needed to press a button to start or stop it.

I jump down and close the door.

Julia: Maybe we will go for a ride tomorrow… If I can figure out how this thing works

We start walking back to the mansion with the manual in my hand

Aurel: I look forward to it

Julia: It's definitely not as comfortable as the smaller car though

Aurel accompanies me to my room, my dy was coming out of her room just then

Aurel: Go to your room, I need to have a word with my dy

She gnces at me as I pass by her, but her gaze remains fixed on Aurel. I go to my room and close the door. I can’t really make out what they are talking about in hushed voices but the discussion definitely sounds intense

  ------

  Aurel: My dy?

  Cressida: Speak

Aurel: My dy… I have a request for you, please apologize to Julia

  Cressida: What? Why shall I?

Aurel: For your outburst yesterday. It has really upset her my dy

The countess found herself getting irritated at her most trusted aide

Cressida: I will not. She is a servant, and she failed me. My reprimand was entirely justified.

Aurel: Were you actually upset with Julia or were you upset at something else?

Cressida: Why are we even discussing this? She’s my servant, and I’ll reprimand her as I choose.

The countess was getting frustrated, this conversation was pointless

Aurel: My dy might I remind you how powerful those weapons she summoned are. You must treat her a bit more gently. We already have a shortage of supplies, her ability not only provides us weapons, it also provides us weapons far superior to anything we could ever get our hands on

The countess frowned as her Aurel tried her best to persuade her

Cressida: She’s a servant, Aurel. I expect her to take a scolding without issue. Let’s not waste more time on this matter.

The countess turned and went back to her bedroom. She was craving some blood before bed however the conversation with Aurel made her lose her appetite

  -------

After a while the discussion stops and I hear footsteps walking away. I open the door just a bit to see if the countess is still there. She is. And even though I was feeling extremely sleepy this was a good moment to talk

  Julia: My dy?

  Cressida: *sigh* Now what?

Julia: Do you have a moment to talk?

  Cressida: Hm. Come in

My dy went to her room and sat on the edge of her bed. I followed her inside and closed the door behind me

Julia: I was thinking… of leaving

Cressida’s eyes went wide in shock.

  Cressida: What?

Julia: Well since you told me my abilities were useless I thought I would leave after 2 months

I could feel her anger and the tension in the air rising. Within a second she was standing just inches away from me

Cressida: You little… You swore your loyalty to me. Was that a lie? Expin yourself!

Her hand pinned me to the wall, not allowing me to move even a millimeter

Julia: Please, I am still loyal. I-it's just that you said I was useless, so I thought–

Cressida: I said no such thing!

I could see the anger behind the eyes clearly. But there was also confusion

Julia: B-but yesterday you said… I was wasting your time

She removed her hand and pinched the bridge of her nose, clearly frustrated

Cressida: You are more immature than I thought…

  She mumbled under her breath

  Julia: Huh?

She took a deep breath in an effort to calm herself

Cressida: What I said yesterday wasn’t truly aimed at you, Julia. I was… handling other frustrations. I thought you’d be mature enough to handle a bit of criticism, but apparently, you aren’t. Was leaving over something so trivial really necessary? If it’s an apology you want, then fine. I apologize for my outburst.

Julia: What? I am mature… it's just your words… hurt more than I ever thought someone’s would. I am sorry for being so irrational my dy…

Cressida: So does that mean you are staying?

I could feel a stray tear falling from my eye. Why am I even crying? Isn’t it a good thing she wasn’t angry at me… still I feel like a kid who blew things out of proportions

Julia: As long as you would have me

Cressida looked over at me then grabbed my hand and pulled me towards the edge of her bed. We sat together

Cressida: Stop crying, Julia. Tears don’t suit you.

  Julia: I am so sorry

I say as I wipe my eyes with the sleeve of my dress

Julia: May I ask one more thing

Cressida: As long as it doesn’t involve leaving the Cowper Estate, you may ask anything

Julia: What were you so frustrated about yesterday?

  Cressida: …

My dy spaced out. There was a long moment of silence until I called out to her

  Julia: My dy?

  Cressida: …

Her gaze turns towards me, her beautiful green eyes locking with mine again. Even though I have probably seen those eyes dozens of times by now it never gets old. I want to get lost in those pretty emerald eyes for eternity. The warm yellow glow of the candles is reflected beautifully from her smooth blonde hair. I want to run my fingers through her hair, I want to feel their softness. I want is to smell that faint pleasant scent that lingers everywhere she goes. I want her… All of her everyday and every minute

Cressida: I suppose you deserve to know since it is partially reted to you, after all.

  Julia: Me?

Cressida: Yes, there are two matters that have me worried. First, I received word that we lost one of our strongholds to the theocracy just yesterday.

Her lips curl into a frown

  Julia: Oh

Cressida: Second, I am figuring out a way to protect you

  Julia: Me?

Cressida: Yes, Julia, you. You see, your blood… Any vampire can smell its exotic aroma from a great distance, and then there’s your magic. I don’t think you fully realize just how powerful it is. It’s only a matter of time before word gets out about your abilities, and when the theocracy hears about you, they’ll want you dead. The other nobles, on the other hand, will want you for themselves. I need to start preparing for the inevitable, assassins and kidnappers. This is also the reason I forbid you from leaving the manor without my permission.

Julia: Ah. I see. My apologies my dy

I bow my head deeply and sincerely

Julia: Here you are trying to keep me safe, and I am getting upset over some words

  She smiles softly

Cressida: Don’t fret, Julia. I like seeing how my words can have such an effect on you. Maybe a bit of praise from me will push you to work even harder.

Julia: I don’t know about that, but it will certainly make me happy

Cressida: *chuckles* Well, you've done good work, both with helping me through those documents and by summoning such impressive weapons. But don’t get too comfortable, I expect even more from you soon.

I put my hand on top of hers. I know it's not very subtle, but it feels right at the moment. I reply to her, giving her a warm smile

Julia: Anything for you my dy

There is a small moment of silence. Is it just me or is this moment really romantic. I feel like we could kiss any moment now. The air is buzzing with electricity and emotions.

Cressida: Um. I think it's time for us to go to bed

But of course my luck is rarely ever that good. I pull my hand and stand upright

Julia: Y-yes. Thank you my dy… And sorry for worrying you

  Cressida: Hm. Goodnight Julia

  Julia: Goodnight my dy
