Chapter 67
The Needs And Rules Of Merfolk
Jackson:
As I left the clinic followed by the mysterious Mermaid. I linked D to meet me in the office. I don't like being alone with unmated or unfamiliar females in a closed area with no others present. It's not that I don't trust myself, it's because it can cause rumors or untruths being said. Even when I check on our female patients in the clinic, I leave the doors open and a nurse or doctor stands outside the door.
I lead the Mermaid into my office. I introduced her to my mate Dianna, instead of shaking hands she hugs her. I asked her to please take a seat.
She looks at me like she needs permission to speak. Dianna sits beside her, grabs her hand to hold and tells her she can speak freely here.
She blinks and shakes her head. D explains that our rules are different and I am not a controlling alpha. Women and even children are able to speak their minds and we don't use our ranks as weapons. The Mermaid looks stunned but she begins to talk
My name is Ember. I'm from the Blazefin pod. Everything the Mermen said today is true. I didn't speak up because women are not allowed to talk when men are present. Women can only ask men if they will talk to us females without other men around. If the man refuses, we are not allowed to try to talk to that man ever again. That is the reason I asked you if we could talk in private only after you left the room. Dianna and I are cousins by mates. Her cousin is my Uncle's mate. He left our pod and joined hers. That is how we know each other. Although we are not familiar with each other, we can sense family connections. I was stunned by this information but I sat quietly and let her continue.
Brin has always been a troublemaker. His mother is my father's second mate. He is not my fathers son. His father was the Icebond King's Uncle. His name was Isaac. He had to stay in Icebond because of his royal blood. My father and his mother would travel to Icebond every other week and stay a week with him. My father would tell my brother and I that we need to stay away from Brin if we ever met him. He said he could tell he was a bad egg. When my step mother got word that her son had committed murder, she didn't seem surprised. All she said was, he had turned out like his father after all. Marzell and my father and step mother could come to check on Marzell because they are dealing with the conflict from Brin's actions. People banging on their doors demanding to know where he is and demanding his mother for answers. She has even been severely beaten and tortured by people who believe she knows where he is hiding. She honestly doesn't know anything about him. She loved her daughter in law. When Travon's family showed up. She showed them the emails they had sent to each other. She was begging her daughter in law to reject him and while he was in pain from the rejection to run away and hide.
I tell her I understand the reason for her parents not coming. She tells me when she hears me offer the twins a new home. She was wondering if her family could move here also. The confusion must have shown on my face because she says, it's because we will need help understanding the needs and rules of the Merfolk. D asked her if her family would be willing to move. She said Marzell had already talked about how much he likes it here and it's a shame he can't stay here. He has told this to father and mother as well. I heard my father say more than once how he wished we had a place to move to and get away from the harsh rules of Blazefin. I tell her before we come to an agreement I need to know the needs and rules first. I don't want to take on more than I can chew, which at this point feels like I already have.
She says she understands and says the needs are not much to the Merfolk but for someone who doesn't understand it would be asking a lot. She starts listing the needs of Merfolk.
She says one I already heard.
1.. Merfolk require 2 houses. One on land and one in their liquid environment. Not all Mer live in water. Some like us Fire type Merfolk live in Lava.
This narrative has been unlawfully taken from Royal Road. If you see it on Amazon, please report it.
2. Each Mer land house needs the same amenities as any normal house, but the under liquid houses don't require furniture, only mirrors and a few other things. This may sound nasty but the house under the liquid doesn't require a bathroom. You see in Mer form we use the bathroom the same as any type of fish.
3. All Mer require a lot of mirrors. Different styling products, hair dryers, straighteners, different types
of hair brushes and combs, hair accessories.
D cuts in, saying basically every product times 5.
Ember says yes but like all females, we have our favorites.
D shouts SHOPPING SPREE!
I can't help but laugh, especially when Mom bursts through the office door asking when they are going with Dad hot on her heels. He loves shopping just as much as her and D.
Ember tells us the Mermen are just as bad as the woman. Dad pipes in and says that is wonderful because he needs some people to go shopping with him, and gives me a side eye and says since my own SON hates shopping so much. I just roll my eyes and shake my head.
I look at Ember and tell her that it doesn't seem shopping is going to be a problem. She laughs and says not many are willing to go shopping with Merfolk because they can take all day. I laugh and tell her, my mom, mate and dad leave for their shopping speed after breakfast and don't come back until after dark. They eat lunch and dinner out.
I do ask her about furniture for the houses. She says the under liquid houses don't require furniture because Mers like to make their own furniture when it comes to under liquid homes. They like to use what they can find in their surrounding habits. The land houses do require furniture and decor though. I can see the wheels turn in D's mind. Me and my big mouth.
Ok I say now that that is out of the way. What are the rules?
Ember looks at me and simply says whatever the rules of the pod they follow. That sounds easy enough I tell her. She says Merfolk adapt easily to new surroundings and new rules. The Mer are very versatile, except when it comes to mating.
Ember looks at me more seriously. You heard the Mermen say that Mer shares their elemental resistant abilities with their mates. That is true but you weren't told the facts.
Merfolk don't just share resistance. We share abilities. If a Fire Mer is mated to an Ice Mer they both have ice and fire abilities. That makes them more dangerous to handle.
If a Mer is mated to another species of shifters they share resistance and abilities also. For example and only for example. If I were mated with your son Nicholas. He would be able to swim in lava and control fire completely unharmed and I would be able to shift into a wolf that will be able to swim in lava, run through fire and breath fire like a Fire Dragon. Their Hybrid children will also have the abilities of both parents.
have so many questions about this but before I can ask, she swiftly changed the topic and started talking about housing.
The Ice Princesses as you already know need a glacier climate. You will need an Ice Witch to perfect it for them. If you allow us to join your pack we require a volcano and lava lake. That will require a Fire Witch. I tell her we have Pryce, he is an Elemental Master Fairy who just joined our pack, who is itching to do some work. He is very creative from what I've seen of his work. She says he will be perfect. I ask her if she would like to supervise the new climates. She said she would love to help Pryce design their new homes.
