I decided that my limit for social interaction for the day had been reached and trudged back toward the dorms. On the way, I apparently spent too much time staring at the local wonders, because I completely fell out of sync with the schedules.

  Standing before the buildings, I froze. Okay. The floors migrate. The buildings swap roles. Where do I live right now? In the left wing or the right? On the second tier or up in the clouds?

  I entered the left building and climbed to the second floor. Apparently, my floor had decided it was bored here and had flown away.

  I punched the wall in frustration. "Listen here, wall. Where is room four hundred and four?"

  The wall thought for a second, a slight vibration rippling through it. "In the right building," a muffled voice responded. "Fourth floor. Hurry up, they might swap again in ten minutes."

  "Oh, for heaven's sake..." I grumbled. "How did I miss it that badly?"

  I sprinted out of the building, crossed the courtyard, and flew up to the fourth floor of the right building. There it was. Four hundred and four.

  No one was inside. Perfect. I collapsed onto the bed fully clothed.

  "All of this is very interesting..." I muttered, closing my eyes. "But breakfast was way too long ago..."

  The world began to slowly fade. I had almost plunged into that saving "nothingness" when suddenly...

  R-R-R-R-R-R-R.

  The bed beneath my body vibrated as if an earthquake had hit. And the wall above my head clearly stated: "Your classes begin soon. You will be late. Wake up, cadet."

  I bolted upright, nearly cracking my head against the headboard. "OH, COME ON!" I yelled into the void. "Can't a guy even get some sleep here?! Are you people in league with the registrar?!"

  The wall didn't answer. Apparently, its "alarm clock" function didn't include engaging in arguments.

  With a sigh, I pulled the crumpled schedule from my pocket. Alright, let's see. "Combat Magic."
