Dylan spots Jess fleeing from the scene. She ducks into an alley, just as Dylan fires a red beam from his hand, but misses, and breaks off a few pieces of the brick building, instead.
We see Jess duck under the falling brick on her way out, but it looks like she's not going to make it past them until Gerry comes up behind her and shelters her with his body.
Gerry is pelted with several bricks falling from above.
His shirt is bloodied, then his head is cracked. He goes limp, and Jess screams in horrible anguish, trying to shake him awake.
Jess: No-o-o-o-o, please, Gerry, get up!
Robert, Dylan and Blade walk up, now that the bricks have stopped falling. Dylan uses a metal rod as a crutch to hobble over. Blade carefully starts to lift the bricks off of Gerry's corpse, and then lifts him, freeing Jess.
She crawls out, warily gets to her feet, and holds up her hands.
Jess: I'm so sorry. I didn't have a choice.
Del and Neri arrive.
Del: You should die, you worthless bitch.
Blade: That's enough!
The tale has been illicitly lifted; should you spot it on Amazon, report the violation.
Blade rushes over to Jess.
Neri: Blade, no! Come away!
Blade: (confused) What?
Dylan: He means come back!
Blade: Guys, she's fine, look at her!
A silence. Everyone suspects that something is wrong. They hear bricks shuffle, and clack. They all slowly stare at the spot where Gerry collapsed. Gerry lifts himself to his feet, groaning and grumbling, his head still cracked and leaking.
Blade: What in the-? Who- who resurrected him?
Everyone but Gerry looks at each other, but no-one seems to know who's done it. Gerry limps painfully over to the group, who backs away out of dread, and befuddlement.
Gerry: I hate you people. You must think yourselves these great heroes, going down the street, killing or blessing whoever you see fit. Now, if that's not playing Lucky, I don't know what is.
Robert: You could have survived, if you would've just cooperated.
Gerry: No.. Not worth the trouble. I'm gonna be tortured by Lucky because of you.
Robert: Because we didn't want to die?
Gerry: You came after us! We were supposed.... supposed to...
Gerry's head collapses. It wasn't holding together very well.
There is silence a moment longer, until Jess falls to her knees, heartbroken, sobbing at the sight of Gerry, his body no longer fit to occupy.
Jess: (sobbing) Oh, Gerry...
Blade looks grief-stricken. She empathizes with Jess, despite almost being killed by her.
Jess: Oh, you- you don't care...
Blade: Yes, I do. I've lost someone before.
Jess: You? But... how can that happen to one of you? You're a rogue angel, aren't you?
Blade: No. At least, I don't think so. We have to leave, anyways. You might be mortal, Jess.
Del: Oh, don't humanize her, Blade. You don't know what she's done, what she was about to do. You would have died!
Blade: Have you ever killed on orders?
Del is silent. She's got him, there.
Blade: We all leave together. There's no chance the humans will be able to take us all on at once...
Everyone considers her for a second. Jess wipes her face with a handkerchief and nods.
Neri: Hear-hear.
Dylan: Please stop. Nobody likes that.
Everyone takes one last look at Gerry's body, begins to shuffle off, and enters their vehicles.
