The Summa, the Gita, and Cricket

  Arvand Iyar walk into a book shop that was more upper class than he was expecting from the community. With clasic hard wood book shelves with reading nooks spead though out the place. Up front is a raven hair girl setting next to Blond hair boy going over a leather bound book that looks to serious for two kids in high school. Thomas looks up to see him admiring the place and gets to greet him.

  Thomas: Hi I am thomas is there any thing I can help you find or if we do not have it. We can see about ordering it in for you.

  Arvand: Before we get into that. What it it that you too are studding so intently.

  Veronica looking up: My dad is expecting me to give a report on my understanding of Suma Theologica.

  Thomas: It would be like giving your sons the task of explaing in there own words the Gita.

  Arvand: You know of the Gita.

  Thomas: Only on the general idea of it. There is a copy around here in the owner personal collections. I think he wants me to read it. But first Suma theologica. So, how can I help you.

  Arvand: I was hopping to find some books on cricket. My sons have never really been exposed to it before. I do not have a place to play with out going up to Houston.

  Thomas: Well fallow me, I the sports section is over here.

  After spending a few minutes looking and only finding on book on cricket in the store. Mostly covering major players in the store. Arvand mentioning he wanted books on playing the sport.

  Thomas: Well let me go get some catalogs in the back and see if we can find you those books.

  After a few minutes Thomas comes back with a thick catalog and goes back and sit next to Veronica: It takes thomas sum time but finnaly he stand up and goes get Arvand and his boys Karhik and surya.

  Thomas: Arvand this is what I have found. (Showing him the list of options). I am curious how familar are you with the sport.

  Arvand: I use to play it like you see baseball and kickball around here.

  Thomas: I think we found what he needs. Do you want to get the write up for the order.

  Veronica looking grateful for the brake gets up and goes over the the cash resister and pulls out the order pad.

  Arvand: You are not doing it.

  Thomas: it is her father store, but it is an excuse to take a break from the studing.

  Arvand : So what do you do here. I get to trade time for books. Plus, the family I am living with is Jewish and I try to balance the respect for the day and service.

  Veronica: He got this gig doing exactly what he just did, help find some some books in here. I still get lost and he can go right to it most of the time. We make a great pair. He does the hard part and I get the sale.

  Arvand laughs at this exchange.

  Veronica: we will call you when it gets in. Judging from the information. That will be a couple of weeks if that is alright.

  Arvand: That should be fine, thanks you too. I will have to come back

  When Arvand and his family leave the book store. The is a smile that comes across Thomas face.

  Veronica: I have spent enough time around you to know that smile means you are up to something.

  Thomas: I think I found a way to serve and have some real fun doing it.

  Veronica: What are you thinking?

  Thomas: Have you ever played cricket.

  Veronica: I am not sure I could ever say heard of the game before.

  Thomas: I was thing of calling Jonathan and stiring up some trouble.

  Veronica: Get the youth group to learn to play criket.
