Would you two like tutoring in magic, alchemy, and enchanting! We are going to have so much fun together!
“Yes. Show me the enchantments to create a parrying dagger for a combat mage.”
Despite the revelations. Despite her arm still being tender from the tiger claws. Bev had a job to do.
The first thing they needed to do was butcher the tiger. Its bones and claws would be useful. And even though it was a fair bit weaker after death its hide had withstood a direct shot from a bullet. It would make great armor.
While she was doing that she was planning how to keep her brother alive. Tiger leather robes would be a great start. But he could do that himself. She would need to enchant it. But the only enchant she knew to add was self repair.
And enchanting T1 leather would be very difficult.
No, they discussed it. Kennon would tan the leather. With some simple modifications he could make it a wonderful cloak. Right now she needed to make a dagger. Something that he could use to by time to cast while an enemy was in melee range.
She also wanted to test the system. She knew enough to make a decent enchanted dagger on her own. She wanted to know how the system handled that.
Let’s get started on this exciting new project. Describe the specifications of the new wonder we will bring into the world.
She groaned loudly.
“Can you switch your mood to something a little more formal?”
Naturally. You may spend one growth system point to alter my mood. Do you really want to do that?
“Ugggh. No”
She really hoped system points weren’t as rare as she thought. But in case they were, she wouldn’t waste one on an inconvenience.
“Dagger specifications are as follows. Blade length of a quarter meter. Basket guard. One handed. Made of steel with T1 tiger bone hilt wrapped in pelt horn leather.”
“Triangular cross section blade with a sharp point. Intended for a mage to use defensively in close quarters combat.”
Understood. I assume you want it durable. Self repairing. And with mana conductive properties fit for spell blade use? Sharpness optional. Yet preferred? Note, you can talk mentally if you prefer.
That last bit was helpful. Yea that all sounded good. But she didn’t quite grasp the part about mana conductivity.
With proper enchantments an evocation spell such as fire bolt can be cast on the blade. It will hold the spell stable with minimal required willpower. Then when wished the spell fires from the point of the blade in the direction it is pointing. Very effective for casting inside an opponent. Or for prepping a spell when the target is out of range.
Mana conductivity can also be used to chanel mana from the body to something the blade is touching without the difficulties of channeling outside the body.
That, was pretty awesome really. If Kennon had this during the tiger chase he could have channeled an empowered fire bolt into the dagger while running. Turned around and parried. And the first moment the dagger was free he could point it at the beast's head and blast it away.
I like the way you think. Together we will make a masterpiece. Your notes already contain the information on self repair and durability. I will overlay the mana conductivity runes in your mind when you are ready.
Since sharpness is so low a priority. And it would weaken the capacity of stored spells, I assume you don’t want it?
That is correct.
Very well. Note, inscribing the bone will be a bit tricky with your tools. You may want to replace it first. It can be done however.

That, well she hadn’t thought about the difficulty in inscribing T1 bone. But it siad it was possible. And replacing the inscription pen would be difficult. It either needed materials that were naturally sharper than the target. Or high level sharpness enchants. She had neither.
Actually I saw you just got T1 tiger fangs. They should be sharp enough. I know you have the blacksmithing talent to mount it on a pen. And I can teach you how to inscribe the inscription limiter enchantment that prevents cutting too deep.
Wait, really? That enchantment was under tons of expensive patents. And the system didn’t give it till enchanter level 20.
The growth system prefers to teach people everything they need to succeed. The only limiters are your skill. This enchantment is very complicated. But it is also vital for enchanters to learn. I don’t hoard power for myself like the other system.
That sort of explained things. Though the final comments seemed entirely biased.
She stopped for a moment while harvesting.
She chuckled. She was almost certain that Tutor would respond to that last thought.
She wanted to get to work. But by the time the tiger was butchered the sun had already set. And Kennon looked like he was about to pass out from exhaustion. She would get started in the morning.
Kennon woke up refreshed. And happy to be alive. The previous day was a bit of a wakeup call. Forget fun exploration. He needed to get strong enough to fight gods.
And he really had neglected his alchemy. He supposed that was the first thing to rectify. He had plenty of materials. He needed to make his own first aid kit. One that wasn’t a limited resource.
Bev had explained the Tutor. What to expect. He figured it might have a solution to his problems. With a thought he connected to Tutor.
Good morning Kennon. What would you like to learn today?
I want to make a first aid kit. Something renewable with local resources. Bandages. Disinfectants. A health potion if possible. But my only tools are an enchanted mortar and pestle.
An interesting conundrum. Fortunately I am authorized to to teach you how to make basic tools as well. Not in the exciting details of a pure crafter. But I think you will be surprised how good even primitive tools can be.
The first thing you will need is bowls. Lots of them of various sizes. Earth mold should be all you need. The next step is a clean workstation. Scrubbing with water helps. But we should have a proper disinfectant. And to pull double duty that is one of the things you want to make! What a happy coincidence.
Because of that we will ignore spells, and other boring things that kill germs. Your notes already contain the basic recipe. We will be making mana soap. I will assist you in altering the recipe to use materials you have already found.
Kennon was shocked how helpful it was. It was like having a master craftsman in his head telling him how to proceed. Not too forceful, it let him make mistakes. But always made sure he knew when he did and how to do better next time.
Now you need to excite the mana in the berry mash with mana excitement while keeping the water saturated with mana infusion.
Staring at a stone bowl mixed with the two ingredients. He wondered what exactly mana excitement did. And for that matter why he unlocked level two mana imbuement immediately.
The first spell of mana imbuement is mana infusion. Something that borders the line of what can be called a spell. You were already a minor master at it since it is just about moving your mana into a thing and holding it there. You could have never powered an enchanted object without it. So naturally you started at level two.
And mana excitement is basically the opposite. It is when you force the mana in an object to leave it. Some don’t consider it a spell either. And some actually confuse the two spells since it takes similar actions to use them.
Well, that answered that.
Willing his mana into the water he continued pouring until there was no room for any more. He then willed his mana into the mash. This was a little tricky. His goal wasn’t just to add mana. But to replace it. The system made it very clear to him what he had to do.
He didn’t enter politely like with the water. He forced his mana in with a great rush, causing all the natural mana to move away. He watched as the water started to get hot. The mana that contained the nutritional properties of the berries practically began to boil in the mana saturated water.
Hold the water steady until it becomes clear.
He watched the mash, once sitting at the bottom of the bowl, seemed to disintegrate. Turning the water a cloudy red. It churned and bubbled. He felt a strain as his mana was assaulted by the newly added mana from the berries. There wasn’t enough room for both.
He had never done this before. But he knew from his notes what would happen next.
It was as if the water had expanded in some way. Altered to let the extra mana in. The water began to drink it in greedily. As it did the temperature of the water plummeted. Almost reaching freezing temperatures. The cloudy red began to clear into an almost glowing azure. The color of the sky.
You successfully made arcane water. Congratulations on your achievement. This super solvent is highly toxic to organic compounds. It is also mildly corrosive to all bioactive compounds. As well as most non inert materials. I suggest great care when using. The next step is to prepare a safe applicator for the arcane water.
To do that -
