Chapter 2: Accident and Delay

Norville thought the bus ride would go smoothly, however he didn’t anticipate traffic. The trolley operator – a wolf named Gary pulled on the break of the trolley pretty hard. The trolley came to a complete stop causing all the animals to nearly fall out of their seats. The two bears landed right on top of Norville.

“Uh, could you please get off of me?” asked Norville.

The two bears got up and managed to help Norville. Paris glanced out of the window, he could see that there was traffic that was backed up for miles.

“Oh, we’re all going to be late going to work!” cried Paris.

The animals on the trolley began to panic, the two bears especially who were construction workers wanted to get to their job on time. Gary, the trolley operator did his best trying to calm everyone down.

“Easy, easy” said Gary, “no need to panic.”

“Panic, panic, I’m going to be late!” cried a male beaver.

The other animals began to trample poor Gary, Norville couldn’t help but to feel sorry for Gary as he was just trying to do his job. The animals were on foot heading towards their jobs. They didn’t seem to care if they’d be tired – they just wanted to get there. Norville knew he had no time, but Paris took the time to help up Gary.

“There, there, everything’s going to be okay” said Paris.

“Thanks, I needed that” said Gary.

Gary couldn’t believe all the passengers left except for one, Paris was the only one who was willing to be patient – Norville had joined the rest of the animals. Norville did his best trying to get past some of the larger animals that were in front of him.

“Excuse me, pardon me!” cried Norville.

Norville ended up angering an elephant who wasn’t pleased that he was so pushy.

“Hey, watch where you’re going!” cried the elephant.

“I have to get to work!” said Norville.

“So do I, but you don’t see me pushing other animals around!” shouted the elephant.

Norville did his best trying to get past the rest of the animals – he checked his GPS on his cellphone – another three blocks. Traffic was really bad and not moving at all. Paris on the other hand just sat in his seat not wanting to fight the crowd.

“Norville should have waited with me” sighed Paris.

The peacock sat there, and slowly the traffic began to move. But for the animals who were moving on foot it didn’t matter – they were still faster. But Norville was running out of breath – he was making it just halfway through the first block.

“Get a hold of yourself Norville” said Norville to himself.

Norville leaned on a wall just trying to rest for a moment, he was already tired from all that running. He checked his time – at least an hour before work – he could make it – he could make it he thought. But the moment he began to move forward, he felt his stomach turning. That couldn’t be good for him. He knew he needed to find a restroom and fast. The local coffee shop was the only place with a restroom but he’d have to buy something first.
