Narrator's POV
A few minutes after Kibishi and Taoreta rushed towards the end of the tunnel, Kujira ended up chasing after them.
But her Super Code malfunctioned and wasn't able to handle the deep cold air that was coming from the center of the igloo.
Luckily, as a mag who could do anything when she put her mind to it, Kujira was able to send the update software permission back to the headquarters.
While she slowly gained access to the update for her Super Code, Kujira thought of ways to punish the newbies who had run away and didn't follow orders from a veteran such as herself.
"Tch! Honestly, those two! Running around like they own the pce, not listening to instructions, being Yin and Yang and following their instincts! I thought that juniors are supposed to listen to their seniors! Like, what the hell is wrong with them!"
Kujira grumbled some more as she folded her arms and sat down on a snowy seat she created.
"Haaahh, typical. All alone once again..." Kujira frowned and lowered her head in disappointment.
Kujira slowly lifted her head and turned serious.
"Well, it's not a total loss. I'm sure that Kuma and David will make sure that those two will be safe." Kujira lifted her head slightly and narrowed her eyes. "I'm sure Tao will make sure that Kib won't fight. Not because it'll be beneficial for the human race, but for his own sake."
Kujira slowly blushed and looked conflicted by her statement.
"... I don't know if I should be happy about it or angry for not listening to me."
Oh well, at least that'll give me time to figure out a spell to counter the coldness of this pce., Kujira thought.
Figuring out a pn in this cold would normally have had someone panicking due to the environment they were in.
But for Supernaturals, they could st longer than a normal human.
Yet.
Even Supernaturals would eventually feel the coldness and have their body temperature drop.
That was why it was smart of Kujira to use her powers to her advantage. Without her skill as a mag, she, too, would have been frozen to death due to the environment she was in.
If Yosei were here, then I could've pnned better. We need at least one person to be a healer...
Kujira crossed her legs and let her foot dangle.
No, no. A healer wouldn't survive this. Damn those cowards! If the supernaturals who quit had stayed behind and done what they're supposed to, then this mission would've been an easy sweep! But nooo! They want to party, be zy, and have sex with anything and everyone!, Kujira closed her eyes as her face turned red, and it wasn't due to embarrassment. Kujira then slowly calmed down and opened her eyes.
Kib and Tao are two of those people who are willing to do it for a cause. It's not aligned with what our organization wanted, but that doesn't matter. We're all fighting for a reason. More than just saving mankind. Kujira felt her eyes widen for a second and lowered them as a sign of some kind of regret. Joy. Laughter. Anger. Fear. Hate. Love. Same as humans. Yet, they treat you differently. I was wondering why David attacked the soldiers back then when they first arrived. But honestly, I kinda get it. It was wrong and it could lead to other people getting in trouble....
Kujira stared at the roof of the igloo with curiosity.
"But that matters to those who care about that stuff. Family or strangers, there are no results to that matter, no matter the risk. That's what makes humans fwed yet majestic."
As Kujira said.
Humans had many opinions about different things. Hitting someone over what they said about anything wasn't the right thing to do. In fact, it could be wrong. It had consequences in the world of rules. But those rules were what allowed people to say bad things about you and your friends.
Not everyone would respond peacefully. And they certainly wouldn't let anyone get away with dissing someone they deeply cared about.
Some might say it was dumb and some would say it was defense. Either way, those opinions from outsiders were irrelevant to someone who cared about their people and not for one's opinions. Actions might not be right. But that didn't mean they could not be right.
It might depend on the situation, but what mattered was how the person who gave or received felt about it.
Kujira sighed deeply and unfolded her arms.
"Still, though, punching someone like that is still bad. David should've at least reported it instead-"
"What good does that do?" A familiar voice was heard. A female voice at that.
Kujira looked in the direction of the voice and widened her eyes in shock. There was Riley, who had been sent to the care center, appearing once more inside the igloo. With a bright smile alongside her soldier uniform that had seen better days, Riley touched her earrings and winked at Kujira.
"Need another witch by your side, Kujira?~"
"Riley?!" Kujira hopped off her snow seat and raised her hands in the air in a panic.
"Yes, ma'am! Soldier Riley reporting for duty!" Riley saluted Kujira before giggling and resting her palms on her head in a silly way.
"What are you doing here?! This pce is dangerous!" Kujira stepped forward and scolded Riley.
Riley narrowed her eyes at Kujira as if she was bored and pursed her lips.
"What's wrong with me being here?" Riley said calmly.
"A lot of things, actually."
"I see. Well, I don't care what you or anyone thinks of me. I'm here now, aren't I?" Riley looked away childishly.
"Girl! What can you do to help out?! You'll just be a burden-!"
"Seems like you're hard of hearing, Kujira. I JUST asked you if you need another witch by your side." Riley closed her eyes while having a calm expression.
"W-wha! O-oh... right." Kujira, who seemed dumbfounded, nodded at Riley.
"Well? Don't you think me being here has its advantages? You have another person who can use magic." Riley summoned an old-like staff and tapped the end on the ground. Moments ter, a couple of flowers appeared from within the white snow.
"Ehh?!" Kujira widened her eyes and opened her mouth, leaving it hanging.
"Hehe, like it?!" Riley looked smug.
"How are you doing that- no. How are you and David doing these types of things?! Aren't you humans?!" Kujira pointed at Riley with her shaky index finger.
"Hmm?" Riley tilted her head in confusion.
"Huh? What is it?" Kujira sweated.
"Well, the answer is obvious, Kujira." Riley smiled at Kujira. "After all, David and I, we're Supernaturals, too!"
"Huh? Ooh! Okay, that makes sense- HUUUHHH?!" Kujira flinched and raised her hands once more at the news she had received from Riley. "YOU?! YOU AND DAVID ARE SUPERNATURALS?!!!"
Riley smiled brightly at Kujira. A hint of red spread across her cheeks. Riley, who had been dying to reveal the news to her family—Kibishi, Taoreta, and David—had broken the news to Kujira first due to her being on the path she was heading towards.
With this new news that Kujira received, it seemed like the battle against the monster was more and more possible. But it was all up to the execution. Even with a hundred Supernaturals joining in the fight, if they weren't careful, then the battle would be lost.
The Supernaturals would need to figure out a way to beat the monster without a disadvantage.
Although, because they already had a disadvantage, that was more reason for them to be creative and figure out a weakness that these monsters might have...
