Ch 18: Taking Shape

To start with, let's just enlarge their brains and bodies slowly. I can also attempt to 'Add' onto their minds while this happens, I know a lot of the spiders will die, but I can always wait for more to appear. While I work with the spiders, I can think about what I actually want the spiders to be, more specifically in what they will be good at, and their weaknesses, I have to make the spiders actually beatable for a floor 2 monster after all.

So to start with, I begin the process of growth with one of the spiders. While the spider is taking the mana, I think I could maybe go with a speed focus.. No they would be too big and it just seems too... Bland. I could try a more strength build, but if I do, it would need to be a glass cannon type, meaning it has weak tankiness, I could also do the opposite, but same problem and too easy to defeat either way.

Oop, the spider popped I gave it too much mana that it was growing faster than the body could keep up, let's add it in smaller amounts with the next one and do it slower in case. So I don't want a speed, tank or strength build, how about a stealth, ranged or fear build. To start with, I do like the stealth one, but there would be nowhere for them to use it. The ranged though, it would be interesting, but I cannot imagine how to make it actually useful, at most they would spit webs that get people stuck momentarily, this one might work with swarm tactics but not really useful otherwise. The fear one, as you could have guessed would be to just make the spider as scary looking, acting and sounding as possible, but with how things are now, I cannot make something like that soo... I will save this idea for a future floor, as I do like the idea of people running just because they saw something that looked scary, but in reality, was weak.

Ooh, the spider died, it did not pop or anything, I was just giving too little for it's body leaving some areas too underdeveloped to support it, thus killing it, let's remove the slowing down of the mana and it should work. So what kind of spider do I want and can do... Well I know what I want, after all the second floor looks perfect for medieval soldiers, like guards who keep watch over prisoners locked in, but that would mean I would mean I have to do a mix of strength and toughness, along with moulding their bodies to fit the description of dungeon guards. What does a spider dungeon guard even look like?

The spider did not die, it grew to double it's original size, maybe I can slightly increase the amount of mana now, or begin adding to it's mind, let's just do the increase, after all I can just add a mind later or begin later, or the spider will die as the mind it has now is not good enough to deal with it's improved body. Back to spider dungeon guard talk. I will just do a 50/50 mix between strength and durability, though the appearance I want to give... I could try make their heads look like helmets, along with adding 2 arm like thing, 1 holding some light source, the other a spear or well more like make that limb the spear itself, a spear that can unharden to act like a whip and vice versa, I should also give the spiders a pattern, like a shield. Yes a shield I can just put it on their backs as there would be plenty of space. That was actually easier that I thought to come up with a design.

Next milestone reached, it has doubled in size once again, though I have noticed the spider is struggling, lagging it keeps at random times, kicking, twitching and shaking, I guess the mind problem I though of before is actually a problem, but at least I now know the signs so I can just add a little onto it's mind and increase the amount of mana I am giving it, just so I can keep up with it's body's growth without causing anything to be underdeveloped, and killing it, I can also start adding more spiders to the evolution list.

The adding on trick seemed to have worked as it is no longer struggling or anything, and the spiders I have added to the list have all doubled and I can do the same I did with the first spider for this stage. Back to the main spider, it is growing much, much slower than previously, I am even beginning to notice that 1 of it's legs is not growing as fast as the rest, I need to increase the mana, I guess that working with living things is more of a balancing act, between body and mind.

It has once again doubled, along with the others, which are 1 step behind, but I have already finished the mind adding and mana allocation. But the main spider only need to double 1 last time and it would be the perfect size, I had to add significantly more tits mind this time before it stopped struggling, I will also add more once it is half way and when it has reached the perfect size. For mana I had to also add alot more, I have even begun to feel a strange connection to this spider, similar to the golems but... More. When the spider finally reached the final stage. The connection became even stronger, almost like I could actually control them, manipulate them. ORDER THEM. MAKE THEM BOW TO MY AND MY WILL ALONE.
