Chapter 10 - The Interrogation

The double agent opened a door and threw the unsuspecting henchman into a shadowy store room that contained a single, weak light bulb. Old boxes of random items were stacked neatly upon one another and there were stacks of rifle cases and ammunition boxes. But those were not important to the agent. For now. He needed answers and a corpse was going to be of no use to him. The weapons could be saved for later once the plan had moved forward. Closing the door, he spun, cracking a shoulder against his head, quickly disabling his enemy. The henchman collapsed to the floor on his hands and knees and groaned, daggers of pain shooting through his skull, penetrating into his brain. With his enemy being of no danger to him for the moment, the double agent turned around and suddenly grabbed a pair of elevator doors, prying them open. He grabbed the henchman by his coat collar, dragging him across the floor. Using a small burst of strength, he dragged him up onto his two feet and threw him against the elevator shaft. He stopped, leaving his heels hanging over the deep pit. “Tell me everything you know about Pulvis!” He suddenly shouted at him. “Why did Artificis create it?!”

The henchman panted, abject fear in his eyes. “Alright! Alright!” He shouted desperately. “I’ll tell you everything! Just please, don’t kill me!”

“You have my word.” He said, scarily calm all of a sudden.

“This place is a centre for a giant conspiracy.” He spoke quickly. “I’m talking about murder, corruption, heists, you name it. Artificis created it simply for power. He holds England in his grip. Banks have become corrupt because of him. How else do you think we get the funding to keep a place like this running without anyone realising for this long?”

“So Artificis just wants to control England and take all of the power he wants?”

  “Yes.”

  “It’s that simple?”

  “Yes.”

The double agent stayed quiet for a couple of seconds, thinking to himself. “Thank you.” He suddenly released the henchman and he almost fell down the fifty foot abyss, his fingers just barely managing to grab the sides of the doors as his heavy heels weighed him down.

“Wait, wait! I thought you were going to let me go!” He yelled in shock, dangling dangerously over the edge of the dark drop.

“I lied.” The double agent said coldly, just before kicking him in the chest. The henchman screamed as he fell down the shaft and to his death.
