Chapter One: Atherome At Last

A beam of light streaked through the sky of Atherome, heading towards the Aislief City, a city under the Atrec Kingdom, a kingdom on the border of the known lands.

The beam hovered over the city for a brief moment before rocketing directly downwards, slamming into the summoning platform and exploding into fragments of light. Where the beam had fallen now lay a young man.

The man opened his eyes and looked around in confusion. “Is this Atherome?” He mumbled quietly to himself as his eyes took in the massive stone gazebo he found himself in. He looked beyond the pillars of the gazebo and saw a city off in the distance, about a half mile or so away. As he tried to get his bearings he noticed a large stone sign that was placed just outside of the gazebo.

He hesitantly walked over to it and read its inscription aloud. “Welcome to Atherome! You are near the border of the Alrec Kingdom, a mile away from Aslief City. Life will not be the same as it was in the tutorial, or even in the Grove. If you successfully defended your town, a bottle will be lying next to you, if not, no worries, you don’t have to worry about it. In the tutorial and the grove, the system took an active role and probably made you feel important, and maybe you are, but now, you are one of the weakest denizens of this world and you will have to crawl back up to power without the constant babying of the system. Good luck!”

The man stared at the words, taking a couple seconds to process this information. “I already lost the Legend of the Tutorial title, so where does that put me exactly? I can’t talk to the system, but will I still get messages from them, such as tips? I guess I will just have to wait and see.” He mused aloud.

He took a good look at himself. He was wearing his black suit with his scythe lying on the ground a couple feet away from him. He also had his black armwraps and his equally black dress shoes. He sniffed the air softly and gagged. He smelled terrible. It was only made worse with his heightened senses.

Stepping outside of the gazebo, he began walking in the direction of the city.

As he did so, he started to gaze at the scenery all around him. There were mountains off in the distance, grass as far as the eye and wildlife everywhere. The different tiers and levels, as well as the variety of it all astounded him. Curious as to what would happen, he used Master Scan on the local fauna.

  Common Mole

  Tier 2 Level 31

A Mole that is found all over Atherome, it has control over earth magic and can’t see very well. Highest stat is Intelligence. Second highest stat is Wisdom.

  Grasslands Buck

  Tier 4 Level 203

A Deer that is found all over the grasslands of Atherome. It has a high control over earth and is very fast. Highest stat is Dexterity. Second highest stat is Intelligence.

  Fearsome Badger

  Tier 5 Level 1

A freshly advanced Badger that has broken through the nature barriers of its kind. It has a fearsomely high strength, hence its name, and is known as the “Newbie Slayer,” because of the amount of Newbies that have been killed by it and its kind. Highest stat is Strength. Second highest stat is Constitution.

  Common Earthworm

  Tier 1 Level 99

An Earthworm on the verge of advancing past its species limit. It has a much higher intelligence than its brothers and has lived for twice as long as most of them ever will. Highest stat is Endurance. Second highest stat is Intelligence.

  Uncommon Mole

  Tier 3 Level 47

A slightly more powerful Mole than the common variant. It has increased control over earth magic and still can’t see well. Its strength is higher than normal for its kind. Highest stat is Intelligence. Second highest stat is Strength.

Atlas was surprised at all the different kinds of animals he could see. Some he avoided like the plague, such as the Fearsome Badger, while a couple others he shot a bolt of earth at, slaying them for a small amount of experience, even gaining a couple levels by the time he reached the city.

  Level Up!!! X3

Atlas reached the portcullis of the city and glanced at the guards on either side of it. “Goodday may I come in?” He asked them politely.

“Huh? Who are you?” one of the guards harshly brandished his spear and glaring at him.

“Woah there Zinter, no need to get so angry at him for no reason!” The other guard said, turning and looking at Atlas. “You just got summoned, right? What’s your name?” He inquired earnestly.

  Stolen novel; please report.

“My name? My name is Atlas.” Atlas told him.

  System Message:

  * = Legendary

  ** = Mythic

Atlas was in shock for a brief moment and missed what the guard said, and he hurriedly amended this mistake. “I am sorry sir, could you repeat that? I got a system message.” He explained with an apologetic tone.

The guard waved him off, “No worries, I was just saying that you are good to enter, we just have to do a quick scan first, it will look for any irregularities in your status that we need to know about.”

The other guard, the aggressive one, pulled out a band of metal and placed it on Atlas’s head, and, after waiting for about 5 seconds, took it off. He frowned briefly as his eyes became unfocused for a long minute.

Just when Atlas was about to ask a question, the guard spoke. “What sort of adamantium spoon have you been eating out of! You have not one but two mythic titles, two legendary ones and a mythic skill, as well as another legendary. Your skills are all B or above, and you have Z ranked skills, along with Z rank potential and talent?” The poor man was practically raving by the end of his little rant and he looked like he wanted to simultaneously shout in anger and faint with shock.

The other guard slowly turned to face Atlas. “Is what he just said true?” He asked with a loud swallowing sound.

“Yes…?” Atlas responded, confused at what was happening now, as he was still trying to understand his status sheet as well.

The guard looked at Atlas for a few long seconds before sighing and turning to the other guard. “Just let him in.” He said with a resigned tone.

With a salute the portcullis was raised and Atlas was let through, being released into the city.

The guard that had opened the portcullis turned to the other guard. “Um, sir? Why did you let him through without trying to spot him for the guards? He is an amazing candidate.” The young man clearly didn’t understand why the older guard had done what he had.

The veteran guard sighed. “I have seen kids like him. They have been babied from the hard things of this world and are given everything they have. Did you see his talent, potential and skill levels?” the guard asked his younger counterpart.

“Yes?” The man said tentatively. “He had Z ranked talent and potential.” He told him, clearly not understanding why the older man was dragging it out.

  “And his skill?”

The guard furrowed his brow. “Like a D or a C? Why does that matter? Mine is a C as well.” He asked, wondering if the guard was making fun of him.

“It was a D, and for you, a C is perfectly respectable, outstanding even with your C ranked skills and below, but for him? His D is like you having a G rank skill, or in other words, terrible.” The older man said, being brutally honest.

“But how is that even possible? Doesn’t the tutorial have risk to reward benifits?”

“It does, but the system can show more favor for one person and impact the scale, and there is also a luck aspect with titles and being able to do things first.”

“So is he weak or strong?”

“I would say he has the potential to be ridiculously strong but his skill score is simply to low to take advantage of it.”

The younger man winced. “So basically he can’t even properly use half of his power.”

The man laughed. “Son, I would be surprised if he could properly use a quarter of his power.”
